Part Two

Recap: Armaan's family

"Papa! Mein tayyar hoon!" A girl with bright hazel eyes, cute cheeks, flowing black hair that go just a bit bellow her shoulder, and pink lips, runs down the stairs in excitement. "OUCH!"

In her excitement and nervousness, Riddhima Shashank Gupta fell and landed on the ground. It was a good thing she fell from the fifth to last stair rather than the top one.

"Sambhal ke, beta," her parents came rushing into the large hall. "Aaj tuhmara pehla din hai, You don't want to miss it," Shashank said. Riddhima just sat on the ground rubbing her foot. Why didn't they pay attention to her foot, where she got hurt? Well, nothing had happened to her foot anyways.

"Chalo bhi, tuhmare pair ko kuch nahi hua, natak band kar," said her mother. They all got up. Shashank and Riddhima sat on the table while Padma went to make coffee and omlets.

"To, Papa, batao, hamare in charge mein kaun hoga?" Riddhima said.

"Dr. Armaan. Ache doctor hai." Shashank said, without looking up from his morning paper. "Padma, chai please! Dr. Armaan bohot punctual hai."

Padma came into the dining hall with a tray of omlets, a jug of coffee, and glass of badam ki kanji (its this badam thing with milk, for your mind, my mommy makes it (lol) "Yeh lo, andai, takat ki liye, badam dimag ke liye, aur coffee… pata nahi kis liye… tuhm log har roz coffee peeke thak nai jate? Muhje to yeh sab coffee chai bilkul nahi ache lagte."

"Coffee kyunki muhje sari raath jagna badrega, pata nahi Dr. Armaan kaise hoga…" said Riddhima.

"Dr. Armaan?" Padma said smiling. "Acha ladka hai." She winked at Riddhima. Riddhima smiled, but then made an angry face at her.

"Maa! Aap bhi na!" she said, finishing her egg. "Papa chalein?"

"Yes, sure, beta." Shashank said. He was very happy that his daughter was so excited to become a doctor.

Sapna ki ma ko sirf ek baat ki paari hoti hai… Shaadi, shaadi, aur shaadi. Today she was very depressed because her youngest daughter was starting her internship, not her bawarchiship, and that she had an MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) and not a MBBS (Masters in Best Bawarchi Service). But, kya karein, ghar ke sabse chohte bachai baroun ki baat kaha suntai? Sapna's mother was sulking on the couch.

{Pretend they're talking in Gujrati, I don't know Gujrati too well.)

"Maa, mein jarahi hoon! Jaldi se ashirvad dejye." Sapna called out from the door. She was wearing a cute blue kurti with jeans. Her mother came to the door, looking sad. "Maa, mein to sirf hospital jarahi hoon, saasural nahi."

"Isi baat ki to tensen (you know how Gujrati's cant say SH) hai. Tu hai na jaldi se shaadi karle, hospital jane ki zarurat nai paregi."

"Maa, agar mera pati beemar hogaya to? Free mein ilaj hojayega," Sapna laughed. She touches her mothers feet, and her mother pats her back reluctantly. Sapna then runs out to her rickshaw wala…

"Woof, woof!!!" the dogs barked. "WOOF, WOOF!!"

A guys in a white banyan and jeans with untidy hair and an unshaven beard is shown, running for his life. Then three dogs are shown chasing him.

"Hai Allah! Muhje bachao!!" says the young man. There are a bunch of girls nearby laughing at his state. He sees a tree nearby and climbs up, the dogs are still down there barking. "Aare, kiske kuttai hai yeh, badre batameez hai! Logo ko apne kutto ko sambhal ne bhi nai aate, kya zamana hai!

"Batameez hoga tu, Tum apne ankhen nai sambhal sakte the kya?? Meri beti ko aankh marta hai, sala, kameana kahi ka. Besharm ladka!!" and old man (Asrani) is shown putting a leash on the dogs. "Ab neechai bhi au!"

The young man comes down. "Sorry, abba jaan, aaj se mein koi bhi ladki ko nai chehroonga, specially agar uska baap aap ki tara ho to."

"Abba hoga tera BAAP!"

"Haan... woh to muhje pata hai. Agar aap ko make sure karna hai, to meri Mummi se phoochle na."

The man raises his hands to slap the guy, but he runs home. As soon as he gets home, he sees his mother standing with a broom in her right hand and has her left hand ready for a thapad. Before he can say anything, she gives him an ulte haath ka thapad.

"Ab maaza aya, Safwan??" she said. "Aaj se agar tum kisi bhi ladke ko chehrege, na… toh mein tuhje ghar se bahar nikal doongi."

Safwan just laughed it off, she had said that a million times before, but he was her only son, she'd never kick him out. Muahhahahha!! His mother gave him the death stare.

"Acha baba, nei chehroonga, ab muhje hospital jana hai, internship ka pehla din hai, yaad hai?" Safwan said.

"Oh haha, mein to bhool gaye thi ke tu doctor hai, shakal se tu ulloo ka patha dekhai deta hai… kahi tum cheating kar ke doctor to nai bane, na?"

"Maa, aap bhi na, har waqt muj par shak karti reti hai."

Safwan's father, who was reading Hindustan Times (not really, he was listening to their conversation.) got up and patted his son on his back. "Beta kiska hai!"

Safwan's Mother:

"Haha, tum bhi iski tara flirt karte rehte the." His mother said.

"Jabhi to muhje meri chand millie," His father said, shaking his eyebrows. In the meantime, Safwan slipped away or else he'd have to listen to his parents romantic one liners. He went and got ready and slipped away quietly, without breakfast.

(General info about Safwan: he has five big sisters who are all married and all have kids, and live in their own homes. He lives with his parents in a flat in Hiranandani Gardens {that place is so pretty!})

Malaika's been ready before sunrise... everyone had went back to sleep after namaz (I'm guessing most of us know what namaz is 😉), but Malaika was too excited to sleep. There was still time. She had to be at the hospital at 10, it was 7, three hours left. She sat on the couch, polishing her medical knowledge... (she's very serious about everything, even jokes)

"Khau shooooooooooo, Khau shoooooooooo." Malaika was snoring. Her cousin came and nudged her the shoulder.

"Aunty ka phone hai, woh tum se baat karna chahti hai." she said. Aunty meaning her Khala meaning Malaika's mom who was in America. She missed her mom, dad, brothers, and sisters, bu she definatly didn't miss America . It was pretty fun in Mumbai. Malaika ran to the kitchen and took the phone from her Yasmin Khala, almost jumping up and down in excitment.

"Hello Mummi!!! Aaj internship ka pehla din hai, dua'a karna mere liye. Mein bohot nervous horahi hoon. OMG!!!! DUS BAJNE WALI HAI!!!! Mein aap se baad mein baat karti hoon."

"Aareee!!!! Sambhal ke jaana. Aur…" her mother's voice trailed. She couldn't believe her daughter was so big now.

Malaika handed the phone to Yasmin Khala, gave her a tight hug, and a kiss on her cheek.

"Pagli," Yasmin Khala said, slapping her forehead, and returned to the phone to talk to her sister, while Malaika left to catch a taxi.

Malaika's outfit, just imagine her face in there, and her scarf done properly 😛

All five interns reached the hospital, Malaika the last. They were supposed to report to Dr. Armaan's office. Armaan was waiting for them. The clock ticked... One by one, the interns came into the room... Except Miss Riddhima... as she got lost talking to a nurse in the hallway 🤢. She looked at her watch. It said 10:00:00.

Dr. Armaan looked his watch. 10:00:05

The door popped open Dr. Riddhima came in.

"Sorry sir, woh mein..."

"You are ten seconds LATE!" Dr. Armaan said, trying to be stern, but he couldn't, because the face he just saw was so innocent and beautiful... He had seen her somewhere long ago. OH! She was Dr. Shashank's daughter!

"Sorry," she said, looking at the floor. "I won't do it again."

"Ok. Welcome to Sanjeevani, interns. I am Dr. Armaan, and I will be in charge of you during your internship. Now aaplogo ko pata hai keh doctor bana koi asan kaam nahi hai. Yeh koi..."

"Haan, woh to hume medical college se pata chalgaya tha 😆😆," Safwan cut in between. Armaan knew this kid was going to be a challenge.

"Aap ki tareef?" said Armaan.

"Jitna karo, kum hai."

Malaika looked at him. OMG, he was so bad, he just talked back to Dr. Armaan like that? Very shameful. Safwan looked at her angry face, he shook his eyebrows at her.She looked away, already hating him, while Safwan was thinking that she would be easily bothered by him, what fun!

"Ok, agar yeh koi khel lagta hai aap ko, lagai aap ki night duty, for the whole week." Armaan said.

Safwan's mouth hung open. WHOLE WEEK NIGHT DUTY???? What was he going to tell his mother??

"Mere samne apna moo band rakhne ki aadat karlena," Armaan said. He went to a closest across his desk and took out five brand new doctor's coats, stethoscopes, ID cards, and beeper; He handed one to each intern.

"Dr. Safwan, rectal examinations, Aid's ward, and Night duty in the maternity ward, Dr. Atul, general ward, Dr. Sapna, you will be with Dr. Atul, and Dr. Malaika, Pediatric ward, Aur Dr… Dr. Riddhima, aap muhje assist karoge."

"Yes, sir," said all the interns. Safwan didn't dare complain about his duty.
