Chapter 13- Confusion

"Kripa?" The voice called out. I wanted desperately to disappear. Aaliya, PLEASE go away.

"Kripa. I know you're in there." She said, holding her breath. I took the towel and wrapped it about myself. I stepped out.

"Is there a reason you're in my bathroom? Who's Kripa?" I asked. She looked at me with that you-better-fess-up-before-I-kill-you look.
"What are you doing in my boyfriend's bathroom? And you tell me, who's Kripa?"

"Your boyfriend? Try MY boyfriend." I stormed out of the bathroom dramatically. "Prithvi!!!!!" I shouted, I made my way to the living room and Aaliya followed.

"Yes?" He asked happily, he turned to find me in a towel and a fuming Aaliya behind me. "Oh…." He said, nervously. "You guys met?" He tried to pull off smoothly.

"Who is she?!" I yell. I mouth the word 'Vanessa' to him.

"Kripa, I'm Aaliya. Only your best friend," She said, looking at me. She searched my eyes but unfortunately, blue contacts blocked the truth she was looking for.

"Kripa?" I ask. Prithvi opens his mouth to say something and we both glare at him.

"This is…."

"Vanessa." We both complete at once. Our synchronization is supposed to be convincing but from Prithvi's part it sounds forced.

"Vanessa Mishra. Prithvi's girlfriend." I say, proudly. Aaliya glares at me.

"Aaliya Khanna, also Prithvi's girlfriend."

"Guys, guys…I'm sure we should wait for Vanessa to get dressed and you to cool down before we talk this over like adults." Prithvi managed to stutter. I've never seen him stumble over his words like so, he must really love Aaliya a lot. I feel pity for him.

"We're over!" I yell, running to the bedroom, pretending to cry. I shut the door and sigh against it. Bach gayi. I hear a loud knock on the door. It's Aaliya, I can tell.

"Miss Vanessa…" She muses sarcastically. I open the door. "Yes?" I ask, hoping my alligator tears have not dried.

"Are you alright?" She adds, mocking me.

"Is there something amusing?" I ask, confused.

"What is it that you do for a living?" She asks amused.

"I'm an artist." I say, confident.

"Do you know something, Vanessa?" She sat on the bed. I sat beside her. "I used to have a best friend named Kripa."

"Used to?" I asked, slightly saddened.
"She killed herself." She said, slightly amused.

"Well, that's definitely very funny…" I say, fully offended.

"You look just like her." She said, smiling. "But I have a STRONG feeling that you're lying to me and you are Kripa."

"Why so? Did she look just like me?" I sounded so incredibly blonde; I didn't realize I was still in a towel.

"Well, there was always something that I brought up when we were going on our dangerous jobs…." She said. Dammit, I thought. My eyes wandered to my towel, I glanced over my shoulder. It lay exposed.

"And it fazes me to be highly odd that an artist like you would have the same mark."

"What mark?" I ask like the idiot I am. She smirks.

"Tell me, Vanessa. How did you get shot in the same spot Kripa took a bullet for me?" I sigh defeated. She smiles at her feat.

"Aaliya," I sigh, crying. "I missed you so much." She hugged me.

"Do you know how Bhai has been living?"

"I don't want to know. I don't want to hear about him. I don't want to hear his name." I say. Aaliya pulls away from me.

"How can you be so selfish?" She asks, finally angry at me.

"Aaliya, once I'm done with this, Vicky Sir is going to kill me anyways. So I might as well get him used to me being dead. Has he found anyone else yet?" I ask. He should have. The charming, handsome man he is…he should have moved on. It's been almost a year.

"He's always at work." She sighs.

"At least he has a job." I reason. She glances at me angrily. "He hates his job."

"No…" I say in disbelief. "He can't dislike his job."

"He HATES his job." She repeats. "It all seems useless to him. He says you were such a good person, what kind of a law gives someone a punishment without a crime."

"NO!" I yelled, "You have to explain it to him….There is a reason I'm doing this. If he's not…." I trail off, near hysteria. "He has to…." Frustrated, I pull my hands through my wet hair, tears fall down my already wet face. "Everything is getting screwed up." I cry.

"Kripa?" Aaliya asks, confused at my outbreak. I hold my head, crying. "No, it's not supposed to be like this."

"How is it supposed to be?" She asks, for some odd reason, I feel like internally she is mocking the failure of my intention. I know that is just paranoia though, because Aaliya wants me to succeed just as much as I do.

"Ranbir and Vikrant are supposed to be dead. Angad is supposed to be working and happy. You're not supposed to know I'm alive." I can't help but cry harder, though I absolutely despise tears. It's not just a dialogue when I say I hate tears.

"And how is it?" She asks.

"I slept with Ranbir. Vikrant is just as powerful as ever. Angad is miserable. You know I'm alive. I'm failing terribly. I'll never be able to die in peace." I'm not sure where the last sentence came from but I was thinking it somewhere in the back of my mind. Aaliya sat shocked, not sure where to begin to console me. I mentally pleaded to her not even try to.

Prithvi walked in and stood at the door, watching me cry. This was great. "Oh, and your boyfriend won't tell me the truth." I added, humorously through the hot acid that stung at my cheeks.

Aaliya's phone rang and she excused herself for a few moments, I expected her to not return. Prithvi sat confused beside me. He was terrible at handling tears, I noticed. It was funny almost how awkward this was.

"Kritika, you're a fighter." He tells me firmly, finally.

"Tell me that once I'm martyred." I laugh. He glances at me with anger. Okay, humor isn't the best prerogative at the moment.

"You can't break down like this." He said, reassuringly.

"Yes, I can. I'm doing quite badly at this…" I say, not being able to stop my quiet moans. "I'm not supposed to win this one." I state. "It's not in my fate."

"You create your own fate." He scoffs, "You always have, you always will. No such thing as destiny." Well, there's Prithvi for you. Denying everything you believe in. He was different.

"It's not meant to be. I'm too weak." I reason.

"Don't use that crap against me." He laughs. "You've survived 26 years, what's a few more?" I glare at him and he laughs at the gesture. "I'm not supposed to know that?"

"It's rude to know a woman's age."

"No, it's rude to ask. Not rude to find out yourself. Would you care to know about your birth parents?" He asked. My jaw dropped at the prospect. Surely, he was kidding.

"No." I reply, unsure.

"Your loss. Speaking of which, Aaliya just left." I smirk. "Is that a major loss for you?"

"No. Perhaps it is for you. She never said she'd keep today's happenings to herself." Suddenly, I feel warm fear spill down my cheeks again. God, what is wrong with me?

"Kritika, honestly what is wrong with you?" He asks, tired of my crying.

"I've no clue. I feel like crying…tons." I say, sniffling.

"Well, that's certainly….very……." He searches for an inoffensive word. "Hormonal." He concludes.

"So it is." I conclude finally also. He sat in thought, "You pregnant or something?" He asked. My eyes widen. "I should hope not…" I sighed in disdain. Well, my dream of having Angad's children went down the drain. It's sad. A family is something both of us always craved, and the thought of him having that family with another woman was highly depressing. "I wish…." I said. Prithvi raised an eyebrow.

"You wish what?" He asked.

"I wish I was pregnant with Angad's child." I said, sadly. "But that's something that's never going to happen." Prithvi looked at me with optimism.

"Mark my words, Kritika. After all of this is over, you and Angad are both going to be together again…." I wanted to kiss Prithvi for saying something so sweet, untrue even if it was. I sighed.

"I certainly wish so." But I doubt it; he understood the words I didn't say. He frowned upon them.

"Go get dressed, Kritika." He said, resuming his usual down-to-business trainer tone. "We have to go to the gym. I don't need you falling sick in times like these. You need your strength. You need all you can get to finish off three Gujraals." He smiled. He was my strength lately. I was quite blessed to be granted a friend like him.

After leaving the room, I quickly changed into my REGULAR training clothes and we went about our usual hardcore training that left me sore as an asses' back.

"Ow." I said, returning home. Prithvi grinned at me as he wiped sweat off himself. Gosh, was it hot in here or was it just him? Why was I acting like such a teenager, I questioned but it was just my mind wandering off my purpose. We've all seen what good that did me.

"Ow? Who says Ow? That was great!" He said happily.

"Someone's chirpy today." I said sarcastically. I should have guessed after today's sore workout Prithvi would be super-pumped. The adrenaline always got him in a good mood.

"So I am. Let's go out for ice cream…" He said. I got up and felt his forehead. "Are you okay?"

"Maybe a movie too…." He said. I eyed him with suspicion. He grinned idiotically at me.

"Okay, this isn't adrenaline chirpy Prithvi, this is trying to sneak his way into something Prithvi." I said. He sighed.

"I got the tickets black mein. Will that stop us?" He asked, disappointed. I looked at the tickets. I nearly laughed at the movie selection.

"You wanna watch a movie about a women's hockey team? We've seen it already." I laughed. He pouted childishly.

"So? It's inspiring…." He said, dramatically.

"Shut up and take me to go see Cash." I laughed.

"Fine." He groaned. "But you're paying."

Chapter 14- At the Movies

"We're watching this," Prithvi sighed in disdain. He could be such a kid sometimes. I sat, chomping on popcorn. It was half way through the movie and we were quite distracted at the large woman, I think it was, that laid in the row behind us. She lay, fully comfortable on three seats; she had tickets for all three seats too. She looked very homely.

"Bechari." I muttered. "Probably just got a break from her husband and kids."

"She snores." Prithvi scoffed. I rolled my eyes. Angad always told me I didn't snore but Aaliya told me otherwise.

"Prithvi, do I snore?" I asked, curiously. He nodded.

"Yup, you drool too." He said, seriously. I stuffed popcorn into my mouth to not say something mean, because I was, indeed offended.

"Hm." I said. He laughed.

"And you twist yourself in a very unladylike manner so that your knee is resting on your elbow." He laughed. "I call it Sleeping Kripa Twister." I glance at him angrily.

"And you're always holding onto your pillow." He said, laughing.

"Do you watch me sleep?!" I asked, annoyed. He nodded, laughing, "When I can't sleep, it's pretty damn entertaining." He said, laughing still. I wanted to laugh too. I did it too. When I couldn't sleep, I watched him sleep once I think.

"You need a new pastime. But you're pretty funny in your sleep too." I said, musing. He stopped laughing. "You watched me sleep?" He asked, angrily. I nodded, laughing.

"You have some entertaining dreams. YOU talk in your sleep." I laugh. "No! Not me! Spare me! Not the giant bunny of doom!" I laugh, remembering one of his rather crazy dreams. He pouts at me. It's quite amusing.

"It wasn't a giant bunny, it was a dude dressed in a bunny suit." He defends. I laugh, pinching his cheek. "Don't worry; you're still cute no matter what." I laugh.

"This movie's crap." He said, changing the subject. I roll my eyes. "Wanna go get ice cream?"

"Okay, I'll pay for that. You wanna stay for the movie? I mean it's your money. And if your interested in it, I'll sleep or something." He reasoned.

"I don't care. As long as we're not training, I don't care what we do." He laughed at my response. "Yeah Prithvi, I hate training with a passion, so shoot me. Let's go get ice cream." I said, leaving the movie theater. He jogs after me.

"No need to run." I laugh. He laughs sarcastically, "Yeah, well I like running." We walk out of the theater and he steps back, "Kritika." He whispers, I look up to see him. His eyes gesture to the left. I look up to see him. Him. He looks as handsome as ever. He hasn't shaved in a day or two but I know that's because he was busy. He's wearing the shirt I bought him, he hasn't forgotten me completely. I stand there, set in stone almost. Prithvi pulls at my arm. I whisper, eyes glued on him, "Prithvi, I can't move."

I see Angad laugh as a woman appears, she grips tightly at his arm as he leads her into the caf. I want to follow them, Prithvi sees my face. I feel tears about to spill down my face. I look to Prithvi; he puts his arm out and leads me into the caf, sensing my want.

We sit in the corner and order plain water. I order mine with lots of ice. Ice helps me cool down especially since I feel my temperature rising out of stress.

"Kritika, calm down." He tells me. My eyes wander to the woman sitting with Angad. She was gorgeous. Prettier than me. This is what I wanted. I wanted him to move on. Well Kripa, he's moving on, why do you feel like your heart is about to shatter into a million pieces?

He's talking to her about work. I read their lips. She's telling him how difficult his job must be, like he doesn't already know. She's a journalist, she says. Working for Mumbai Times. He says that's fascinating. What's sad is he is fascinated. He's hanging off of every word she says. Angad smiles one of his famous flirty smiles and invites her to dinner at nine. She accepts. He pays her bill and kisses her. She blushes a bit. He kissed her. Suddenly, I feel the urge to shoot that girl. Her name was Gitanjali, I looked it up. Gitanjali Dev. EW. They leave arm in arm.

"Kritika…" Prithvi starts. I look up at him, confused. "Huh?" I asked dumbly. He rolled his eyes.

"Are you alright?" He asked. I nodded, gulping the freezing water down.

"He's not serious about her. That was not serious." He said, comforting me.

"How would you know?" I asked, I swear all color fled his face. He went pale as a sheet.

"I just do." He answered, angrily. His avoidance of the subject was bothering me beyond reason. Even I knew it wasn't serious. When Angad is serious about a girl, he's idiotic. Very idiotic. Very few know that.

"How would you know that, Prithvi?" I repeated. He shook his head. "Kritika, I just do. Any guy knows that. When you're seriously into a girl, you act different. That was just plain flirting, innocent flirting." He repeated, trying to get me not to notice his twiddling thumbs.

"Prithvi Akshay Bose!" I yelled. He glared at me, he hated his middle name.

"What Kritika?" He asked, irritated. I knew he wasn't going to tell me. "I'm going home." I said. "I don't care where you go. Don't come home though." I glared.

"Are you kicking me out?" He asked, confused.

"Yes, I am. You don't want to see what happens if you do happen to show up at home." I said angrily. I was scary I presume because he didn't give me an argument. He drove off, I really did intend on going home when I was at the caf. But as I saw his car turn onto the interstate, curiosity got the better of me. I wired a black Jag and followed him. It was nice to know I could still remember how to hotwire a car.

I was most shocked as Prithvi's car took me where I was least likely to go. Straight to Angad's home.

Chapter 15- Decieved.

He glanced back at the road, perhaps checking if I was there but I was taking the route through the bushes. I parked and stood outside the door. Him and Angad were talking. Very comfortably, they spoke.

"Dude, your wife is a clever little thing. She's less a con artist, more a detective." Prithvi said, laughing at Angad. I watched Angad roll his eyes.

"What did she do now?" He asked, laughing. He was laughing? Okay, confused was the understatement of the year. I was lost. Extremely lost.

"I'll tell you that later but who the heck were you just with two minutes ago?" Prithvi asked, shouting from the kitchen.

"You guys were there? Just a reporter, Gitanjali Dev something something like that." He laughed.

"She was hot. Kritika was freaking out." Prithvi said, tossing Angad a beer.

"Well, she's never been much of the jealous type." Angad said, thoughtfully. Aaliya came in dramatically, "Yeah, I know. She's been wondering if you've moved on Bhai."

Aaliya said, looking to Angad. He shrugged, "Was I supposed to?" He asked. Prithvi laughed, "Like she knows. All the girls in our lives are very confused." He said laughing;
Aaliya smacked him hard in the head. "I'm not confused. Kripa might be though."

"Bunty, she cried. I felt terrible." Prithvi said earnestly to Angad. Well, Prithvi in my book right now was a bit of a better person than my own husband.

Chintu and Bunty, oh that made a whole lot more sense. Now, I was just pissed.

"You shouldn't." Angad said, "She's only getting what she deserves." He said. "Once everything is over and done with, she'll get over it."

"You sure? I mean I've never seen her cry." Prithvi said, guiltily.

"Eh. She's a drama queen, she'll live." Aaliya said, taking Prithvi's beer from him.

"She always does." Angad says, rolling his eyes. This was the loving husband I was feeling sorry for accidentally cheating on. This was the man I dedicated my life to. Suddenly, everything I stand for seems belittled.

Now, it seems obvious WHY my plan failed so terribly. Because it was set up to. I could prove them wrong; each and every one of them. Though, it would require me being miserable, that was a risk I was ready to take to show them. My husband and two best friends…Wow. Now, I wished at the end of my mission I did die. Just for the guilt to take over them. Angad especially.

"So what have you guys been doing?" Angad asked, disregarding the feeling of my presence. I can feel his presence from miles away, I wonder if he notices I'm there.

"Training mostly. Nothing interesting. Nothing interesting with me anyways. There's always Kritika and her mission, but I'm sure you've no interest in that." He said sarcastically. He amazes me; Prithvi is standing up for me. Not to sound immature but dude!

"Yeah, Chintu. I'm not interested in Kripa's mission. That's a joke. So how has she been doing with that?" Angad asked, immersed in a rugby match on television.

"Let's see, she's stressed out of her mind for you and Aaliya. The Gujraals are as powerful as anything and she kind of messed up on her first encounter with a Gujraal." He said, with slight hints of anger in his voice.

"She should be stressed. She works well under pressure. It's normal, nothing major. Messed up…what are you talking about?"

"Uh…." Prithvi said, nervously. "Well, Ranbir Gujraal…." His voice trailed off. Angad glanced at him, "What?"

"Well, her deal was she'd seduce Ranbir Gujraal and kill him. It was my idea actually." He defended. Angad's eyebrows knit, "And?"

"She ended up sleeping with him instead." He said. Angad threw his head back and laughed. "That isn't terrible you know." Prithvi raised an eyebrow, as did I.

"It's more motivation for her. She hates that man's guts." He said coolly. Prithvi shook his head confused, "So it doesn't like…bother you?" Prithvi asked.

"Nope." He said, "I know she didn't mean to. It was just something that happened. I can guarantee she wasn't in her senses. Even then, she regretted it. It's not like she cheated on me. That would be willingly…But even then." He laughed. "I forgot. She can't cheat on me. We're not married." He said, sarcastically.

"Bunty, you're making no sense." Prithvi said.

"I'm a god dam widower." Angad said, angrily.

"Just cuz she wants you to think she's dead doesn't mean she actually is." Prithvi says.

"No man, to me she is dead. She could've told me. But that night when I thought I killed her….you can't imagine what I felt like."

"I think she knew you'd eventually figure it out." Prithvi like the friend he is defended me. Even if it was, again, untrue.

"Like hell she did, she thought I'd shoot her and live with the guilt of killing her for the rest of my life that she'd damned. And just by saying a few words she thought I'd actually move on? Bull shit." He said angrily. I rolled my eyes.

"I seriously doubt that." Prithvi said, despite knowing the truth.

"Yeah. Well, you don't know her like I do. She thinks I don't understand her at all. Her and her dumb setups. Well for your information Kripa, I know better." He spoke to no one in general.

"Whatever, even she knows you can read her like a book." Aaliya cuts in.

"She thinks I married her just for the job. That's why that day she made me shoot her. For my job. I dunno why it's so hard to believe that I seriously do love her. Everything's walking on water for her."

I huffed silently. I knew he loved me. He sure wasn't acting like it.

"She knows that." Aaliya says carelessly.

"Hate to break it to her but she thinks anonymously checking up on me is not suspicious… well it is."

"Checking on you guys? Well that was my idea." Prithvi added.

"Uh huh. Blank phone calls and all." Aaliya said, laughing. Angad got up and said, "And she is quite dumb to think…." He paused as I heard him walk closer and closer to the door, "That I didn't notice she was standing outside the door this entire time." He opened it and grinned.

"Hello, love." He said, grinning sarcastically. "Trespassing?" He asked, taking me by the arm he pulled me in, angrily.

Oh damn.
