"Something's wrong with her and she won't tell me." Angad paced the bedroom of their suite while Kripa him with a frown on his face. They'd been here for almost four hours and on their four hour flight, the man had been obsession about the same thing. She didn't know how she was supposed to calm him down. In stead she watched him pace the room and continue to babble about his youngest sister.
"Angad, honey." She grabbed his hand defeated and pulled him down beside her. "Tash was fine when she came in. A little tired, yes. Hell, she's been through a eight hour flight, anyone would be." She turned his face to hers and just looked at him.
"Maybe. She doesn't look tired normally. There were bruises under her eyes. She hasn't been sleeping."
Kripa let out a sigh and decided to be annoyed. "We could just go back, Angad. Is that fine with you. Let me call Tash first and let her know that we're coming back because her brother has a thick brain." She tapped her knuckles against his head before she unfolded her legs and began to get up.
"No." Catching her wrist, he pulled her back into his lap and kissed her shoulder. "Don't do that. I can't have everyone using me as a punching bag."
"Right." She turned and wrapped her legs around his waist. "Why don't you take me out to breakfast?"
Angad glanced at the clock. "It's five in the morning." He kissed the tip of her nose. "I had a better idea." He lowered his mouth to hers and fell back on the bed, rolled so she was pinned under him. "A much better idea." He told her between kisses.
"Angad!" Willing to play it light, she giggled and writhed under him. "Stop it. I'm starving! Angad." She slapped her hand on his mouth. "You feed me breakfast and then I'll give you everything you want." She wiggled her eyebrows at him.
"How about we reverse the order?" He slid his lips over her temple and into her hair.
"I want to take a shower." She said even as her fingers curled into his shirt. "I'm tired and filthy." She sighed when he rested his head against her heart and just held.
"We can take a shower together and then I'll feed you breakfast and then we can sleep for as long as you want." It felt so good to just lie there and no there was nothing to do next. No obligations, no files. No court appearances. "I have a surprise for you."
"Sure." Her eyes were half closed. She was raking a hand through his dark hair and slowly dozing. It was the most ideal moment of her life. "Let's make it so it's sleeping, shower, and then we eat."
"We could do that." He said and turning her into his arms, they both fell asleep.
Tia wiped the back of her hand over her forehead and frowned when the paint smeared. She had sold her house three days ago and was trying desperately to make the little apartment hers. She hated being in there alone all the time. She felt cramped for space and so alone. Now, she had newspapers spread all over the floor to prevent it from getting dirty. She'd painted her old house with Jay and it had been so much fun. This was nothing like it. It was much, much harder now than it had been years ago.
When her stomach growled she turned and looked around the freshly painted walls for a clock. She hadn't hung one. Dropping the paint brush into the paint with a splash, she went into her room and looked at the boxes she had sitting on around the room. She knelt down and began to stock them away.
She was disturbed forty minutes later when the doorbell rang. She let it ring hoping the person would go away. When it rang yet again, she grumbled and went to get it.
Adi beamed at her. A box of pizza in his one hand, and a brown grocery bag in the other. "Hello."
"What do you want?" She turned around without inviting him in. She didn't want company.
"Oh, honey no." He said staying at the door. "I can't come inside." He waited a beat, "Oh, okay! Now that you insist I'll come in and share the pizza with you. But I can't stay for more than thirty minutes." He stepped inside and closed the door behind him. And looked around the room. It smelled like paint and made him want to puke. He looked at Tia. She was wearing overalls with paint dotted everywhere.
"New fashion?" He asked casually and crossed to the table to set the things down. "The colors nice," he said when she was still quite.
"I'm glad you approve," she grumbled and left. Damn it, she didn't want him here. She didn't want to feel the way she had when she had seen him smiling so foolishly at the door with the box of pizza in her hands. She felt like she was betraying Jay.
Wanting to make the best of it he smiled. His voice was light when he spoke again. "Is there a place you haven't painted?"
"My room." She walked into it with him behind her. She turned around and their bodies brushed. She took a step back.
"My God, Tia. How can you live like this?" He dropped the box of pizza on the bed and looked at the chaos. "I'll help you with it once we eat. You shouldn't be painting on your own. You should have called me."
"I've got it. Why aren't you out somewhere on a Friday night, Adi?" Because she wasn't looking at him, she missed the anger that crossed his eyes.
"You you are a selfish, inconsiderate lady?" He kicked the box in his way and crossed to her. Stopped. "You know I'm going to do just that. I'll see you at work on Monday."
"Adi." She shook her head. "Are you going to the charity function tomorrow?" She linked her fingers when he didn't speak. "Okay, fine. I'm sorry." She circled around the boxes and went to hold his hand.
"I'm not going if you're not." He grinned and leaning over kissed her forehead. "Tia, I love you." He ran his hands down her arms, smiled. "Just wanted you to know that."
"I'll get the plates," she said and evaded. When she came back all her boxes were shifted on one side of the room and her dresser was cleaner. The box of pizza was open and three of the pieces were gone; he was picking up his fourth one. He made her smile.
"You should have told me you didn't need plates." She sat down on the bed and crossed her legs under her. It wasn't until then that she realized that she was exhausted and hadn't had a decent night sleep in a few days. The nightmares were back and she saw Jay slip away from her every night.
"Yeah." He gave the slice to her and got himself another. "Did you move everything out from your place?"
"Yeah. I left most of the things there." She had wanted to get rid of it. And the price she had sold the house for not even close to what it was worth in real estate. She wanted so badly to just lean against him and hold on. He would be there. He would never refuse. But she knew she had to learn to solve her own problems.
"I spoke with Hope. She was very happy about going to the beach with Soniya and Abhi. Do you want something to drink?" She asked moving away.
"Tia." He walked behind her and cupped her shoulders from behind her. "Tell me what's wrong, baby?"
She dropped the glasses and turned around and threw her arms around him. "Take me away from here, Adi. I don't want to be alone."
"No one does, babe." He kissed the top of her head. "Come on now. You're trembling, Tia" He rubbed her back. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing. Nothing." She forced herself to relax against him, little by little. "I'm so glad you came by. I don't want to live alone Adi. It's scary… I can't sleep at night." She curled her fingers into his shirt, then relaxed her hands.
"Why don't you stay with your parents for sometime, Tia?" He wanted so badly to ask her to come home with him. Stay there. There was too much room. She could have stayed anywhere. Instead he kissed her hair. "Come on. We'll go for a walk. And then we can come back here and have a sleepover. I promise I won't kick."
She chuckled and then lifting her face, kissed his cheek. "You've always been there."
"I always will be." He brushed his knuckled down her cheek. "Tia. I don't understand where you get your looks from."
She looked up at him. There was something in his eyes she was all to familiar with. Something she had seen in Jay's eyes for herself countless times. But there was something in his eyes she had been begging for from everyone else. Sympathy. There was love but no sympathy. She felt something twist at her heart and rising on her toes a second time pressed her lips to his. "Are you trying to throw a pick-up line at me?" She asked lightly.
"Maybe. Did it work?" He smiled and linked his fingers with his. "Lets go for a walk."
Kripa stretched in her bed and turned away from the window and pressed her face into Angad's chest. Her first thought was she needed to get up and start breakfast. Then she realized she wasn't at home but in a pathetically expensive hotel suite, enjoying her very late honeymoon with her very handsome husband. Because everything was so perfect Kripa grinned into Angad's chest and closed her eyes again. Her arms slid around him automatically. The curtains flirted with the wind on the other side and left Kripa groaning. She pressed her face deeper into Angad's chest.
He groaned. Shifted. And turned away from her. The sun fell full on her face now. She looked at Angad's back. "Angad." She slid her arms around his stomach.
"Hmmm."
"Go close the curtains, baby." She lowered her hands, slid them under his shirt and whispered them over his ribcage. He groaned slapped her hands away and turned his face into the pillow. Damn it, Kripa thought. She pursed her lips and rubbed her foot over his calf. "Go close the curtains, Angad."
He opened his eyes and glared at her. Tried not to smile at the bright grin on her face. "Can't you let a dead man sleep?"
She slid closer and pressed against him. "My handsome dead man. Go close the curtains and then you can sleep as much as you want. I won't even wake-up you up. I can take that bath alone." She slid her hands down his back, then up again. "Eat the breakfast alone."
He rolled his eyes and pinned her to her back. "Look, sweetheart. Since you're getting up, why don't you close the curtains on your own?"
She cocked an eyebrow. Angad lifted his hand and traced his thumb over it. "You're going to let me get up?"
"I was planning on seduction. This is easy." He tipped his head down and kissed her nose. "Hell of a way to wake someone up."
She ran her hands up his back again, then down. "You think so?"
"No. I was talking about that nose you have. Big and sharp as Pinocchio's." He grinned and rolled of her. She stayed on her back for about five seconds before she ran behind him into the bathroom.
"Now wait a damn minute." He shut the door on her face, she threw it back open and walked in behind him. "My nose is quite small and not at all pointed." She gave it a quick glance in the mirror.
"Uh-huh." He stretched his arms up and noticed her eyes travel to the mirror. He felt guilty for only a second before he grinned. "Why don't you order breakfast?"
She stared at him for a moment, before she fisted her hand and punched him full on the stomach. "God damn it!" He looked up at her. She smiled at him and took her first step out. Within seconds, she was pinned against the wall and saw Angad glaring into her eyes. She grinned again.
"I can try it, dead center, with my knee now." She stood on her toes and brushed her lips over his, then his nose. "Your daughter… she had my nose." His forehead. And felt him weaken.
He caught her wrists and pressed her fisted hands to his lips one by one. "I bought you your favorite perfume." This time he slid his hands under her shirt and brushed his thumbs over her ribs.
"Hmmm."
"Rock n Rose. Valentino." He slid his hands out and unbuttoned the first pearl button. "You don't have a favorite movie." He slid the material off her shoulders and bent down to brush his lips over the skin. "But you can sit down and watch a romance anytime of the day."
"Very good. You've passed the test. Lift your hands, Angad." When he did she slid the shirt off and examined the torso. "Very, very good."
When he grinned at her, she rolled her eyes. "Football dream, remember?" He gathered her into his arms and lowering his head nibbled delicately on her mouth. "I have livelong gym membership." With one quick sweep, he lifted her off her feet. "We can try out the shower later. I'm sorry there no candle light. Moonlight."
"There's sun light. You gave me moon light last time." She brushed his sleep-tousled hair off his forehead and kissed him there again. "I love you."
"Hmmm. I love you, too." Brought her closer from her shoulder and just held on for a moment. Her heart was racing against his. "You know how I saw you the first time." She closed her eyes and rested her hand over his heart. Made a sound that told him to continue. "You were laughing with Dad. That deep blue dress did wonders to you skin." He drew her away, swept his eyes over her face and smiled. A simple curving of his lips. "I was in love with your paintings. And then with your face." He began to kiss it then. Inch by slow inch. Her knees trembled and she wrapped her long, piano playing fingers, around his forearms and held on.
It was all she could have wanted now.
"I was always jealous of you. Your family." She sighed and tipped her head back. Her eyes closed when the sun slanted over them. She felt the heat from the sun, from his lips. Her fingers tightened on his forearms when he pressed his lips at the center on her throat. She took his name on a breathless whisper and buckled her knees when her heart dipped into her stomach when he pressed his lips against the pale skin over her heart.
"You have us all now," he murmured looking into her eyes. They were smoky grey. He saw everything in them for himself. Desire, need. Love. "You have us all and much, much more." He said and lowered her to the bed.
"That was the best way to start of the morning." Angad skimmed his lips over Kripa's temple. He was going move off of her as soon as she stopped feeling so perfect under him. He was sure that was never going to happen. "I should move. I'm heavy."
"Mmmm." She tightened her arms around him and kissed his shoulder. "No. Stay." She took a deep, satisfied breathe and smiled. "We really should order that breakfast Angad. I'm starving."
"Okay." He lifted his face and looked down at her. Her mouth was slightly swollen from his, her eyes were closed, but he knew she was watching him from under her lashes. She always watched everything. She was seriously glowing. He gave her a quick kiss and then rolled off of her to get the phone.
When he was done ordering breakfast, he nuzzled Kripa again. "So How are you?"
"I'm hungry for one." She said, turning her head to kiss his chest. "And, I'm in love with you." She laughed and tipped her head up to look at him. "It's great."
"Uh-huh. That's the solution to your hunger. I'll make sure I let you know I love you again in a bit." He kissed her forehead and rolled out of bed to get a robe.
Minutes later they were both sitting in bed again with the tray balanced on Angad's legs, and Kripa leaning on his arm. "I've never had breakfast in bed,"
"You did after Hope." He buttered toast, lifted it to her lips before taking a bite himself.
"That didn't count. I was half dead at the time." She stole his cup of coffee and sipped. Winced at the strong taste. "Plus, I haven't had breakfast in bed with you before."
"You haven't had me in bed before either." He winked his nose when she sent him an arched look. "It's okay. I'll give you more chances." Because she began to pull away he kissed the top of her head and wrapped his arm around her tightly. "Don't be annoyed. Tell me, do you want to stay here or go out?"
She thought about it for a second. "Let's go out. I'm sure there's a lot you too see here. Natasha was telling me that shopping is fun." She bit back a grin when Angad groaned. "I mean wouldn't it be great to take gifts back to everyone? Hope would love a doll and-"
"Kripa! Our. It's our honeymoon." He dropped his forehead on her shoulder and banged it there a few times. "Us. You and me. No one else."
"We'll stroll down and check things out," she said followed by a chuckle. "You're adorable."
Satisfied, he put the tray away and wrapped both his arms around her shoulders. "We'll shop later on. Hope would love gifts from here. Chocolates. In fact I don't mind some myself."
Playfully, she stabbed her finger in his stomach. "I can see the chocolates already. Come on now, don't sulk. We'll go out and have dinner outside." She punched a kiss on his cheek, then the other, before she went to shower.
Tia frowned into the mirror and the winced with the thunder rumbling in the sky. She had spent a better portion of the evening fixing her hair so it looked like the way it did right now. It was rain straight. Very much like the rain pouring outside. She had to make sure she didn't fiddle with her hair. And, she had to remember to tell Adi not to touch it. The man was seriously obsessed with her hair. Actually, Tia thought with a slight curving of her lips, he was obsessed with her. He buzzed around like a bee around honey. Still smiling she reached for her earrings and began to dress herself.
Almost an hour later, she was done with her jewelry, her make-up, and even had her shoes on. In between her face and feet, she was still dressed little white shorts and a black t-shirt. Adi was supposed to be here fifteen minutes ago. She had planned to change the moment he got here. After all, what was the point in walking around her house in a midnight blue dress?
If he was like most men, Tia thought with a frown, he was going to be upset if se wasn't ready to go the moment she went to get the door. She began to slip out of her shirt when the door bell rang. She cursed under her breathe for about ten seconds before she went to get the door.
She opened it to Adi and lightning thundering behind him. A moment later, she watched him step in and nearly fall on her. She managed a grin.
"It's not drama class." She patted his back and closed the door as he drew away to look at her. "I need two minutes to change."
"You could turn heads in just that." He looked up and down at her and sighed again. "Oh, yeah. You could turn every head." He leaned over to kiss her cheek. "I'm going to be a very jealous man tonight."
She rolled her eyes, bit back a smile. He was so damn charming. "Two minutes." She said again and began walking away. "Get yourself a glass of wine or something."
"Or something." He looked around her dinning room. He'd helped her finish painting it last night. And since then and now she had already made it hers. She had no right to be living here, he thought furiously. She was meant to be in a roomy house with big rooms. His gaze stopped on her wedding picture. He wanted to be the man on her side. He brushed his thumb over the frame and sighed. Some day. No he thought with a sudden grin, one day.
"I'm done." She came stumbling out of the bedroom, fixing the neck of her dress. Adi turned and just stood their staring. The dress was high in front, right under her collarbones and scooped low in the back. Her arms were bare, her eyes were actually sparkling. "I'm sorry I wasn't ready before. My hair just took forever and then…" She looked up and found him close. Too close. "Aditiya?"
"Tia." He lifted his hands and framed her face. "I don't know what to do about you. You drive me crazy."
"Sure I do. You can kill me for it afterwards." She jerked her head back. "Don't mess with the hair. It took forever." Because she knew heart had just stumbled where she didn't want it to, she framed his face in return and rising on her toes, kissed him full on the mouth. "I'll wait for you in the car." She gave him the house keys and took the car keys out of his coat pockets.
Tia closed her eyes at the end of the night very, very satisfied. The night had been purposeful and they raised more money than last year. Nothing could have been better. She sighed and smiled at Adi as he started the car. "I'm going to go home and fall, face first, on the bed and just sleep." She just hoped she wouldn't have nightmares.
"That's great." He turned on his night lights and scowled. He hated driving through a rainy night. And, Tia's house was on the other side of the world anyways. He had sometime before he could fall, face down, on his bed. His empty cold bed. He bit back a sigh and turned his car towards Tia's house. He stopped at the flashing lights and cursed softly.
"Roads blocked." She murmured and then jerked with the flash of light and sound over her.
"That sucks!" He reversed his car and made a quick u-turn. "You want to go to your parents place for now?" Oh, Jesus. That was an hour ahead on his. Please say no!
"That an hour ahead." She shoved, finally, her hands through her hair.
"Hmm. How about my house? I have four empty bedrooms. It'll be great. You can make me breakfast tomorrow morning." He grinned when she groaned.
"I guess that's fine." She smiled again and sat back. By the time they reached home the rain had calmed down just a bit. While Adi ran towards his door to unlock the door, Tia took her time to walk through the rain and towards the large mahogany doors. As Adi watched her he knew he had just fallen in love with her all over again.
"You're going to get yourself sick." He said and grabbing her hand dragged her into the house and hit the lights.
"Spoiled sport." She accused and shook the rain out of her hair. She turned and looked at him, grinned. "I'm going to bed."
"I'll get you something dry." Lips pursed, he walked to her, brushed his hand over her hair and kissed her lightly on the nose. "I'll turn on the heater."
She frowned at his back. He had his ways of making her feel guilty. She stood where she was until he brought her dry cloths and then went upstairs and chose a room. She picked the one farthest away from Adi. Maybe she was just being silly, but the truth was that the closer she came to Adi the more she felt she was betraying Jay. She had loved him for so long. Now he'd been gone for a little over two months and she found herself leaning towards Adi. She twisted in bed and looked at the window, the rain tapping lightly against it. He was there every time she turned. More she realized, it was easiest to tell him what was on her mind than anyone else. Only God knew why. But it had been like that always. Even when she hadn't been able to tell Jay things right away, she had gone and spoken to Adi first.
She closed her eyes and pulled a pillow into her arms. And, she closed her eyes and fell asleep instantly.
And she dreamt again. She could smell all those smells that crawl into you the first time you walk into the hospital. The smell of blood, of death followed her into the hospital, into the noise that was only roaring in her head. In her ears. The lights seemed to bright suddenly and the few people in the corridor were like a crowd on a Monday morning in New York city. She heard the noises behind her, turn and ran to get Jay on the stretcher. She could have screamed for people to move out of the way but nothing seemed more important to be close to Jay. To let him know that he was going to be fine. Damn it, she needed him!
Then he smiling into her eyes. Everything was fading. The lights, the voices. She could see his eyes blink slowly. He reached for her hand with his. His blood met her skin. She shivered. Leaned closer to him as he tried to speak to her. I love you, he said. And when she looked at him he smile again and said Adi. But he didn't say it. It was just a movement on his lips. She screamed now. It was more plea. Stay with me. We need you Jay. Desperately, she pressed his clean hand on her stomach. Their baby kicked for the first time. Then his hand slid away and her world flashed, faded, and she felt herself falling into Adi's arms. She could hear his voice. He was shaking her.
"No. No."
"Come on, Tia. Snap out of it. Come on, baby. It's just a dream." But she was white as death. Her lips were dry like the sand. Her hands were rattling like the windows against the thunder. Damn it, damn it. He shook her again. "Tia. For God's sake, it's a goddamn dream. Snap out of it." When she just continued mumbling and writhing, he cursed himself. Then leaning down kissed her. Soft, slow. Breezy. And he all but felt the emotions drain out of her. She mumbled Jay's name against his lips and made his heart cry. He closed his filling eyes and kissed her a moment longer. She kept mumbling for Jay but she calmed down. Her hands slid down his back as she mumbled for Jay and he lost himself in her. He blocked out the words the sounds. He just felt and felt and felt.
Then they were rolling together on the bed. She was pinned under him and he was reaching for the hem of her shirt. Playing with it.
Tia was still mumbling for Jay.
When her hands slid down for his pants, he snapped out of the trance and opened his eyes. Instantly, he hated himself. What was he doing? He demanded of himself. Lifting his head he looked down at her. Her mouth was swollen. Form his. It swept over him like a curse. He was about to take a woman half asleep and having a nightmare. Jesus! Carefully he pressed his lips against her forehead. She was calm again. Asleep again. He cursed himself again and wanted to hurt himself. Just for a moment, he pressed his lips to her neck and then rolled out of bed. He watched her turn a few times before she settled again.
Going down stairs, he scrubbed his hands over his face. What was she going to think when she woke-up and realized what had happened. Maybe she wasn't going to remember. Oh, how he prayed! Because he needed something strong, he got himself a glass and poured whiskey and drank it raw. His throat burned like hell but he downed more. He wished she could remember and not hate him. He laid his forehead against the cabinet a second and dropped the glass with a few drops of whiskey left in the spotless sink.
He knew she was in the kitchen before she even spoke.
"Aditiya?" He stood there, his head against the wood cabinet door and the bottle of whiskey on the counter. His pajamas were a little too big, riding low. He was shirtless. Tia was too occupied to know what's wrong to notice the sexy body he carried with himself. "What's wrong?"
Shit, she didn't remember. "Nothing." He turned around to see her. She was rumpled from sleep. From what his hands had just done to her hair. "Tia." He stepped forward, then stopped. "You were dreaming a minute ago up stairs. I was with you."
"I thought someone was." She walked past him and got out a bottle of water from the fridge. Drank right out of it. Adi felt something twist in his stomach. He wished she'd never leave his house. He wished the next time she stood there in his extra large shirt and a pair of his boxers, from a box he'd opened just for her, it was after they'd made love. When she was his wife. "I'm sorry. I have them often." Easily, unaware of the feeling going through Adi she capped the bottle and set it down.
"Tia. I was in there and I kissed you to wake you from your dream." When she only lifted a brow, he cursed. "I was going to take you right there, in a bed I've never used before while you were half asleep. Do you understand that?" He shook her. "I was going to have you while you slept and were asking for Jay." He picked up the bottle of whiskey from the counter and hauled it across the room. "I don't want to love you like this!" He shouted the words and made her take a step back. "Not when I know you can't be mine, Tia."
"Aditiya." She laid a hand on his back very gingerly. She felt the passion, the anger vibrate from her and sizzle in the room. "I'm sorry."
"Don't be sorry, Tia. Jesus, don't be sorry." He turned and caught her in his arms. Crushed her against him so hard she had trouble breathing for just a moment. "I love you." He whispered and slid his lips into her hair. "Please don't hate me."
Tia trembled when he loosened his arms around her and then left her. "I don't hate you, Adi. Come on, you're churned up. I'll get you a cup of coffee, okay?"
"Yes." He pressed his lips against her forehead. "I want to marry you someday."
She laughed. It came so easily, so fluidly, it left her shocked. "Is that a proposal. Because I demand a ring."
He smiled. "Bring the coffee into my room upstairs. I'll clean that mess."
"Be careful," she said and turned to get the coffee.
Hey guys,
I know I can't say sorry enough for being this late. I was having a major writers block. Then I was reading just now and I came across a few words and type the last four pages in abt an hours time. I'm sorry for being late again.
