It does feel like closure but would be great have few happy updates on these two. Probably how they welcome the baby. How happy they are together.

Seems a dejected man has turned pessimist towards everything.

Live a little

Punky waited for her school’s faculty bus, as the April sun beat down mercilessly. Springfield School was under the belief that it was helping out the faculty by arranging transportation. But for her, Shivane where they lived was anyway far out of town. The school was in Khadki East almost 18 kms commute. An auto would have done the job. Here she was waiting for the faculty bus, because the principal had ordered teachers to travel in airconditioned comfort.

The 8 AM sun was blazing hot.Her saree was losing its starchy fold as sweat soaked her body.

She waved down an auto and sat down and groaned

It was going to be expensive but worth it. She had an appointment this morning at the neighborhood temple to speak to the Pandit about her parents shradh. Ajji had already scolded her for missing two appointments

In two weeks they were coming up on the 15th anniversary of their parents car crash on the Mumbai Pune highway. Now merely a statistic for the newspapers and TV, the Vyas family had lost the parents of three young children.

Pankaja was in college, first year, just a 17 year old. It had hit hard. But she had taken her siblings to Barashiv beach and Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary on the 5th day after. Family on both sides were disgusted by her move.

But she had to do something to bring normalcy

She had chosen to go over to the coast. From then on she danced to her own tune. She had wanted to be a Accountant, but she switched, and got her B Ed after M.Com in stead of trying for CA and had aced the job interview for 7th grade Math teacher.

She wanted to spend summers and festivals with her siblings. This was the best way.

Baba had left some money. They received more from Aai’s bank. Aai’s Ma, Ajji moved in with them. Agoba died a few years later.

The siblings were healthy and so was she.

Aajji was extremely worried she was past 30, 32 to be exact and yet not married.

Her best friend, Sulekha Patil was also worried, she was married and pregnant with number 2 already.

Despite being gorgeous, Punky hadn’t tried dating. She was afraid if she took a man home and then a few months later another guy home, her sister and brother would receive the wrong signal about who she was.

But Sulekha had been harassing her for the last year or so to “live a little”

Saturday evenings were spent with Sulu, and last weekend Sulu had encouraged her to add her profile to a dating app.

Punky took the reigns for her family at such a young age. Her personal life suffered as a result.
