Hello & a goodbye
Smrita stayed back and ordered the newly weds to return home, for being the shy quiet one Rakshit rather enjoyed the limelight at the hospital
Posing multiple times with his bride
“Who pink lehenga mein movie star hai kya koi?”
“Bollywood ki lagti hai shaayad”
“Who beemar pade hain shaayad ooopar yeh dono bete dikhte hain”
“Lal saree mein hai doosri bahu, teacher dikhti hai” Viveka heard that and chuckled
“spot on… full prize for guessing” she smiled to herself
Everything had happened so suddenly she didn’t have time to miss her room or her bookshelves or her stacks of journals and articles piled in the corner
She drew comfort from the fact that they were only 20 kms away and she could take a Metro up to Rohini
Raanav and Rakshit promised to return after changing so Smrita could get some rest
She had been up the whole night making arrangements to host the 50 odd people
Rhea arrived at the Parashar home when they were in the hospital
Stayed for an hour and left to return home to NOIDA, she had two little ones
He had showered and changed after returning from the hospital, and was picking out his clothes to go back again so his Mom could return home
The home was centrally heated, the vent in the walk in closet blowing warm air, was the coziest place for Viveka she curled up in the chair
Wearing a purple bandhini salwar and a orange khadi kurta, bent over her journal article, her legs over the arm rest
When he walked into the closet after the shower he found her there, changed out of her saree and just lounging
“Hiding?” he wondered
“Nahi yaha par heat soothing hai, its so cold and foggy outside” she stared out the window, missing Ma and papa
Feeling a rush of emotion, she bend down resuming her reading
It was a large quiet house, you didn’t even hear footsteps
She wondered what Lekha Tandon was doing now
The helped appeared in the doorway as Viveka sat up straight “Sir Ma’am ne kaha khana khakar jao ap”
“Is Ma’am ne?” he joked softly turning to Viveka
It was rough at home, both boys were married but no sign of Satyen, Smrita was not her usual chirpy nagging self, she was only seen passing through the courtyard as she headed to the hospital or returned from it
It was wedding day and the home was still as a pond.
“Nahi Sir is Ma’am se baat nahi ho paayi” the help was shy
Viveka stood up and said namaste
“Ma’am aap baitho, khaana khaogey”
“Umm.. 7 baje?” she asked shocked
“Sir to jaldi khaate hain, bahar log jaldi khaate hai na”
Raanav buttoned his Vineyard Vines blue twill check shirt, and tucked it into his pants
He was always well turned out she noticed guiltily, stealing glances
He noticed her staring with his side eye
“Main chai pee sakti hoon, main bana sakti hoon”
“Arey nahi Ma’am kitchen mein koi nahi jaata hai” the help told her
“okkkk” Viveka sighed to herself
“Aap school mein sikhaate ho? Jagatji boley” he mumbled laying the plate for Raanav in the bedroom seating area
“Haan… par abhi padh rahi hoon” she couldn’t lie, she wasn’t exactly a Lecturer now
“Bhayya to vaqeel hain” it was the same help from that peanut episode day, and he seemed rather proud about that she thought, amused, he appeared more confident today having a formal connection to Viveka now
“Suna to hai” she chuckled
Raanav heard that
“Aap bhi kha lo jab taq bana loon?” the help offered
“Umm.. main wait kar leti hoon” she nodded sitting down on the comfy mid century whitesofa
“Jee Ma’am”
“Aap bas mujhe Viveka kaho” she she offered
She worked with 10 craftspeople now, she couldn’t bear to hear them address her as Ma’am
There was nothing Ma’am about her
Really…
“Aapka naam kya hai?”
“Mahesh” he said enthusiastically
Raanav sat down to eat after his shave
The help left after serving the first portions
“Did u just sat suna hai?” “For me being a lawyer?” he laughed turning to her his eyes twinkling
“I did” she smiled
“That proud huh?” he mocked
She giggled
“Can I go with you, I am just reading here”
He paused turning serious
Yeah they were not typical newly weds necking each other in bed or over clattering dinner plates
A parent was in the hospital fighting for his life
“Umm.. no, just relax”
“I promise not to bring my mechanical train or legos or spread it all over” she teased
He turned to her again and smiled
They both stared at each other
“I like the henna on your hand” he said as he watched her push her glasses up
She was leaning on the arm rest while her legs were up in crouching position, hugging her folded legs as she watched him eat
“Oh mehendi?”
“Hmm” he nodded
“Ur Mom never got any?” Viveka blurted
“She doesn’t like it” he said quietly
“I even got some on my feet”
She gently pinched the salwar up and he saw it go right up to her ankle
“Nice”
He didn’t touch or feel
She let go gently
“I am not teaching anymore, I can be at the hospital during the day starting tomorrow” she offered quietly
“Want the husband to get on the job huh?” he laughed chewing
“Umm.. nahi… mera matlab, I am I can do it, I have to be at JNU at 3”
“Mom should be home tonight, will check with Rakshit we might take turns, I will get home at 2 and he can be there until 10, then Mamaji or Chachu can visit. I don’t like to be away” he said sighing
“Is your Chachi Bengali”
“Hmm” he nodded
He served himself another roti
“Kalyani is so gorgeous”
“You must have some sort of a deal to praise each other” he laughed
“Oh?” she turned a deep red
He turned to look at her after a few seconds
Her kundan set was gone, so were the matching bangles, she just wore the black beads around her neck and the bracelet. She hadn’t worn the ruby-diamond choker Smrita had handed to her
“I will go see my parents tomorrow in the evening” she said breaking the intense gaze
He turned and began eating
She held her breath
“Its fine right?”
“U must be kidding, it feels like you are asking for permission” he growled
“Umm.. nahi… haan shaayad” she admitted
“You can step out of the closet too….. tomorrow” he taunted, urging her to get out and explore the house.
“You saw me hugging Rhea?” she cracked herself up at the “closet” joke
He turned to her and began to laugh
“That would for sure throw a spanner in the works of my plan to indulge in many lurid erotic acts with you” he said without batting an eyelid losing his smile
She let out a screechy whimper followed by a gasp she was sure
He was undeniably hot, and direct
She lost the staring contest right about the time her chai appeared
“Aapke ghar se jo mithai aayi hai who laaye” Mahesh said
“Oh?” her eyes lit up, as if Mahesh had brought her parents photo
She stared at the plate of besan laddoos Ma Bua and Dadi had cooked up in the Rohini kitchen
There was not much time for anything else
And then the namkeen paarey/matar
She dipped one in her chai and sucked on it, as Mahesh left, he finished up his meal and went in to brush his teeth before heading out
Commenting “This even smells like my home” she chuckled feeling emotional, biting into more namkeen
He was approaching as she set her cup down after the first sip it clattered on the saucer, spilling over
She gulped backing away, the molten sensuality of his gaze, he traced the collar of her khadi kurta as she watched it happen in slow motion. She gasped as she felt the stroke of his thumb across the collar and seam. She smelled toothpaste in his breath, fresh clean and crisp like him
“Nice shirt BTW” she whispered
“thanks” he nodded not pulling her off her crouched position or grabbing her
Just bent over her, the power dynamics between them whipping up a whole new sensuality
Her mouth released a thready moan, as she felt his lips trace her jaw
“I “
Hot, violent sensation tumbled through her body
He pulled himself up.
“Sleep tight” he wished/ exhaled audibly
Walking away
