The coercion would be for Smrita as well. She would have to give in grudgingly for the marriage.

Yes Satyen's demand/ request puts smrita in a spot as well. It will be grudging acceptance . Not sure how that's gonna end. Till date, Satyen has found her flaws tolerable because it did not personally affect him. But with his proposal from a wreck request and probably given that his son and to be daughter in law would be the bearers of his wifey's brunt , his personal equation with her is bound to see a friction or two.

Nice line that Nisha. Smrita's grief also only accommodates the wealthy. Sad but true isn't it?!❤️

“I don’t want to get married to Rajeev Syal” she said genuinely confused by his smartass response

“I am trying to do too much Raanav. I have no hobbies, I flit from Research to college to NGO to applying for random programs” she said quietly

He admired her ambition and honesty. She never really pretended to be something she was not

There was no dearth of ambition there he realized

“How is the NGO. How is Suhani?” he smiled

“She still talks about how you never haggled about the price.” She smiled

“Did I?” he wanted confirmation

“It was an expensive one but you paid way more” she smiled thoughtfully

“Dad was OK that day” he sighed

She stared dumbfounded as to how he connected everything to his Dad’s wellbeing

“You are going to go back and he is going to be fine” she reassured him squeezing his hand

“I do wish that” he nodded

“Where are you sleeping at night?”

“Usually on those recliners in the lounge”

“Ghar chalkar so jao, main ruk jaati hoon aaj raat ko”

“No no worries, there is a ton of family here”

“My Uncle and Aunt, Chachu and his wife”

“To meri zaroorat nahi?” she teased gently

“A hospital is a odd place to be competing to sleep in” he murmured

“I told you” he sipped his coffee and rubbed his warm hand over his eyes

“He has been awake when he has not been sedated right?”

“Umm.. yeah, he asked for you again this morning”

She turned red self consciously

“We could get married and you could walk away if when he gets better” he said boldly

She gasped for air

“Raanav felt the manic desire to stuff his Dad’s life with the symbolic achievements he was denying him thus far. Wanting to reassure Satyen that his suffering has been redeemed, he felt a burden of supplying a happy ending to the gruesome event

“We just pretend to be married so he can be happy?” her heart broke into a million pieces

He didn’t answer

“Will you put an end it or can I?” she asked furthering that thought

“We could talk about it” he said his hand shaking a bit as he set his mug down

“You haven’t slept and you are drinking dark coffee, u will be jittery”

“I am fine”

“I thought about that too. I have to be candid” she said somberly

His eyes opened wide in shock

“I should not feel obligated to marry you Raanav” “I don’t know your Dad enough yet I feel the pull of guilt” I am torn”. Our relationship is complex as it is” she said

“Umm” he sighed

“I couldn’t sleep last night, I didn’t want to agree and feel like I betrayed umm.. “ (she didn’t say Naina and parents) and at the same time I was haunted by the sight of him laying there” she choked back tears

He tried not cry as well

“I have no connection to your family. I don’t belong anywhere here”

He exhaled sharply

“being engaged verbally to man for 4 months does not entitle me to daily visits to his Dad’s bedside”

“I want to do this Viveka, for him” he said quietly

“Mera kya hoga Raanav?”

“I promise not to hurt you”

“Only you can make that promise” she said leaning back

“When he is fully better, he can be told… or if I end up” he stopped (he didn’t complete the sentence “If I end up losing him the deal if off then”)

“So I have to pretend to be your wife so your Dad can recuperate?”

She had texted it almost last night, but hearing it aloud made it sound even more absurd

Now would be your chance Viveka to tell him you expect to receive kindness and compassion from his mother

“I am no over achiever or a super model Raanav. I am just a regular struggling researcher. I am not even sure why he thinks so highly of me” she struggled with Raanav’s painful offer

“I cannot walk away from here unperturbed after saying no. I cannot say yes with happiness. We tried to make it work, we tried for 4 months. We both are products of our environments” she whispered choking. “I cannot demand that your Mom accept me because I am of a different pedigree altogether”

He shifted uncomfortably

Viveka saw in Smrita’s eyes indifference struggled with contempt

“I couldn’t even begin to tell my parents I thought of this and you proposed the same thing unknowingly” “To them Divorce is a serious matter involving financial risks, broken homes and broken promises”

“I will completely understand if you cannot do this” he said gruffly

“I believe in anything that takes courage” she said slowly looking into his eyes

I guess its better to start without expectations and still be there for her than reassuring her of everything and not keeping the promise.

Bakki, Satyen isn't going anywhere and if you guys try to end it after he is better he can always fall sick again.
