Wealth & Intellect
“So basically you want nothing from me” he smiled
“Nothing financial” she nodded
“Ah” “Good point” He pretended to be slow
“”Tum Mazak kar rahe ho”
“Nope” he shook his head with mock sincerity
“You are…” she accused
“how can I convince you?”
“Umm.. do u know of such a lawyer or should I find one? She demanded
“I could” he nodded
“Can we split the fee?” she asked rationally
“You want to pay half for room and board?” he suppressed a chuckle
“I couldn’t afford this place”
“Good? Bad?””
“I don’t know” she shrugged
As he approached her
“Raanav, I am not sure if you are laughing at me or agreeing with me”
“I am not about to squander away time talking about legal semantic with you
“So you ARE laughing at me” she froze
“I am not, I am hoping we can hang out watch a movie and go see my friend in the evening” he balled his fists in his pockets and paced in front of her
“All this just seems so trivial to you”
“You are doubtful and suspicious” he said firmly
“Oh? U think I am not as invested as you are”
“I don’t think so, go ahead and judge me for that” he pulled a hand out and waved
“Why are we even having a conversation about prenup then if I am not serious. I would want to waste my lawyer’s time would I” she was furious
She very very rarely got upset about anything
“This about this Viveka Mathur, every interaction since my proposal has been about allaying your fears about some insecurity”
“I am not insecure Raanav” she smiled, or tried too as she seethed
“Oh no you are not, but your attempts to cordon yourself off emotionally at every step seems like you are going into this with a clinical unemotional mission”
“You think I AM unemotional?” she was shook
“You are not feverishly driven to meet me or hang with me, you did me a favor by accepting my proposal. I am someone who u reluctantly chose to spend your life with”
His eyes were blazing with fury
He was hurt and upset
“I have called you so many times” she shouted
“To ask what? If I will shack up with someone when I get bored?” he brought that question
He looked like someone had landed a blow to his gut
She turned red with shame
It was inappropriate and she should have never asked him that so directly
“You are wealthy and good looking, I wear glasses and teach at a University, can you blame me dude?”
“Ah…. There it comes” he huffed and leaned on the doorjamb “Viveka Mathur marrying beneath her” it stung him, just like it stung his mother
“My family is not convinced you love me” she blurted holding back tears, not even paying attention to his whiplash
She should have aired those fears with Anubha or Akash, she knew her parents and Bua were all not thrilled. The nagging worry in their eyes came out as a blurted accusation
“And they would know why?” “You agreed to marry (beneath you) for what reason again?” “
“I don’t know” “Forget I said that” she said with a calm she did not feel on the inside
“No Viveka I want to talk about it”
“ Your interaction with my family has not been exactly pleasant”
“Oh so I caused it” he was inches from her
“Aisa nahi hai, umm… they wonder how you could love me when, I don’t even know how to say it. We are not exactly ideal soulmates right”
“So my plan to marry you is part of some diabolical plan to what?” “Or did u agree so you can tell your academic friends that you will hang with them for mental nourishment and got yourself a an idiot for physical appeasement, coz I am clearly not in your league” “Did u pause for a second to think that underestimates your intelligence more than it insults my motive?”
“You think I am marrying you for sex alone?” she asked in utter shock
“ Of course you are, you want a prenup, you are clearly not crazy about me, and I am not your equal” “And you don’t know better so you accepted it and are playing along?” “Is that it?”
She swallowed as he inched closer
“You are insane to think that”
“You know that’s what you are doing Viveka”
“My parents don’t think you are stupid” (“I cant think straight when I am around you”) she thought pushing her glasses up
He grabbed her wrist, she was supposed to be resisting him with every fiber of her being
“Makes me feel so much better” he nodded bitterly
“This prenup is not about who is smarter, it is about who is wealthier and what perceptions that might trigger” she said with biting satisfaction
“Oh yes, Viveka Mathur should never be misunderstood?” he was close enough to her for her to just be able to make out his features, his eyes a smoky black not quite pitch black like she had known, his facial features tighter in anger, his mouth though not hard but curved in sensual warmth
He bend down and grabbed her chin
“Please leave me alone and go away” she ordered, trying to suppress the tremors invading her body
“For a man who apparently is not into you, you seem to be quite aroused Viveka Mathur”
She shuddered, I wish I could hate him more, I need to, she told herself sagely
“And you are just using my last name for no reason” she responded not to be bogged down
He was clever and he was a lawyer
She had stabbed the tiger moments ago by declaring no one in her family believed his claim of love
He inturn used her last name to remind her that she was plenty aroused by someone who didn’t care for her
“Go away Raanav” she stepped back almost wrapping her body in the curtains enveloping her
“In a minute, Right now I feel more like kissing my fiancée”
“No… thank you” she whispered looking into his dark mysterious eyes
He pushed her glasses up her nose as she smacked his hand away
“You should just be unaffected you see, you are smarter your mental faculties are probably more in your control than mere mortals like me” he hissed in her ear
His hands slid into her hair, nibbling across her sun warmed cheeks to kiss her lips.
Shivers of delight, started a million sparkly fires in every pore
Numbly she watched his right hand go to her bare waist, his favorite resting spot on her body
It burned through her skin, she whimpered softly
“So unexpected Viveka Mathur” he mocked
“Why do u keep saying my last name Dude?” she growled
His thumb slowly making its way up to the rim of her blouse, on her rib cage, a part of her wanting to dissolve beneath the sweet torment of his touch, to give herself up completely to this complex intelligent man, who cornered her with every word he spoke
“I never said you are not intelligent, I don’t think that’s why my family is” he bend down and nipped her neck
“Oh no… of course you wont” he said grimly letting his moist lips rove her chin
“I want a prenup” “because I don’t want to be seen as a greedy…“Raanav” she begged for him to stop, her fogged up brain instructing her hands to grab his as he let his fingers roam her curves under the folds of her pallu
“The well read intellectuals let their genius daughter marry a man who is nowhere close to her in brain power”
The pads of his thumb lingering on the tips of her curves as she shuddered and fell on him
“Whoaaa?”, her skin stung with hot color as her chest thudded painfully in arousal, hurtling her body into languorous desire
“Agreeing to lowly Raanav Parashar’s proposal was not enough, he needs to be told there will be a prenup” he whispered
He held her chin and lowered his face she watched as his mouth hovered nearer, her heart pounding like a sledgehammer, there was no light persuasive strokes this time, just hungry, passionate pressure, his hand letting go of her chin to slowly stroke the contours of her body
He picked her up and walked over to the other room and lay her down on the bed
“Ufff” she moaned
As he slowly lowered himself on her
