Jas
I want to WFH "some" times, but Iam afraid I will be bored sick if I work from home for over 6 months. I crave social interaction
I want to buy clothes, I want to go to coworkers' cubes and chat on slow days

We live on a very very quiet street other than the mailman there is nobody that drives by.

I would go bat shit crazy no matter how many people I IM

I am somewhat considering WFH though the last couple days because of the new commute news

Thats really long day Anju. Kaise karogi after the baby? Full time guilt mein hi jeete hain ma baap to 😛

I dont do anything earth shattering if my commute is 10 minutes, wohi khaana banana and running around for evening kid activities and writing my stories and reading Bollywood gossip at night

But I nevertheless cherish the down time😳

I had so many relatives that worked for Rourkela Steel plant especially Bua, as it used to be called until SAIL took over. I bet your friends' parents are somehow known to my Dad's side of the family. My Bua lived in Rourkela between 1970-80, her hubs worked for RS/SAIL

If you think about it, It's the most depressing thing - To have breakfast, coffee, lunch by yourself. PJs, gym clothes become your work clothes. If you are stuck to your desk, you can effectively add up less than 2000 steps. You go thru an complete circle.

What do I do to keep myself upbeat - walk or yoga in the morning with a friend, read books, gardening in summer, meet friends for lunch.

You should do something to get some social interaction Jas. I love my kids just as much as anybody else but cannot and will not sacrifice my urge to be productive and social
Unemployment hits me hard. I dont care for it. I am jealous of my husband, my neighbors, friends, even grocery store clerks because I look at them and feel "Oh God... you get to get out of the house? I dont! I am stuck inside playing ghar ghar"😡

I was raised by a wonderful stay at home mother and yet have no attraction for it sadly

Zid

"She loves working I am not sure if she will be comfortable being a housewife he gulped his chai down as the scalding hot liquid singed his tongue and throat. His face contorted to fight the pain

Harshu patted his back so Harit wouldn't choke

They were in their Dad's library downstairs. Harit had invited a plaintiff and his family over for discussion and Harshu had shown up at the tail end of it

The men were now enjoying their tea as a moody Bareilly day was finally taking its leave

"Aap ma ko na kahen yeh baat, shaadi ke 6 mahiney mein itni Khushi shaayad she nahi paayengi he scoffed

"Agar Avantika ka project delay ho jaata hai to kehna padega bhai

"Benchmarking study hai na? Saalon to lagega nahi

"Saalon nahi but mahinon

"Aapne kya socha hai, Chandu yahan Keya ke dewwane ho chale hain Harshu relaxed

"Aapko unko dekhkar Hemant ki yaad nahi aati? Harit tried not to choke up

"Har dam... arey... har dam Harshu whimpered

"Hum to kabhi nahi sochey 4 mein kewal teen bachenge bhai

Harshu nodded heaving softly, sniffling

"Ma ka sochen aap Harit urged

"Aur Bauji?

"bauji ke paas judgeship hai

"Haan... par who bhi dukhi hain, andar se

"Unki zidd Harit hissed

"Sshhh Harshu shushed him

"Zid

"Unki kewal zid nahi, Ma ki bhi... Ma ne pata nahi kya kya khayal bhare unke man mein brahman, kayasth... bania Harshu spoke bluntly

Harit cringed

"Aap Ma ke ladle hain, aur Ma aapko sabse zyaada pyaar kartin hain par sach... sach hai

"Avantika brahman nahin hain Harit spoke grudgingly

"AB KYA FAYDA

Harshu was not thrilled he got up and paced the room

"Yeh galat hai, saara gunah Ma Bauji ka nahi hai

"Haan chaliye maan lete hain... Agar dono mein se ek ne apni manzoori dee hoti to

Harit shifted uncomfortably

"Hum Chandu ke bagair nahi reh paayenge

"Achhi baat hai Harshu nodded sadly wiping away tears and snorting to clear his nostril

The men stared out at the hallway, the door man had left for the day

The kids were out playing cricket

"Avantika se milne kab ja rahe hain aap Harshu asked

"Umm... 10 din mein do baar hoye aaye hum Harit laughed

"Shaadi nahi hui hoti to, to bahar waala yahi samajhta ki aapne yeh saara natak Chandu ko paane ke liye rachaya

Harit stood up abruptly and shoved his hands in his pockets... and sighed

If ifs and buts were candy and nuts wouldn't it be Christmas all around? Sadly all it does is add to the toxic guilt of failed expectations and actions... Past can't be undone and the parents did not go and hire someone to kil Hemant and shristi... unfortunately today they carry that cross . Would the couole have gone on to live had they had a marriage that had the vaidya parent's consent?

If vaidyas has given their consent , we wouldn't have known Teeku and there wouldn't have been a chandan ka Palna😉

If anyone gets to enjoy Christmas all the time , it's destiny... I wonder if destiny knows good from bad , fortunate from unfortunate... both good and bad are equally only for candies and nuts for destiny all year !

I'm in envy of destiny. It writes its own chapters with full freedom. It would be cathartic for me if destiny by itself could go on a guilt trip for distributing bad also unemotionally as if it were candies and nuts ...

Thoughts for the soul this morning 😆

Since we are talking about women's work hrs and responsibilities ... thought this share I recd to be an interesting one... the last bits were beautiful where it said the man doesn't know where he did wrong ... sad but truly applicable in our kind of society. But in an advanced society the reverse extreme of everything forcefully equal also has its great pitfalls... my two cents

Here is the share

In an evolving world girls/women are changing...boys/men need to change too...,
For at least two generations now especially in urban India and educated middle-class families we have raised our girls to be confident and fight for their rights. But we seem to have ignored an entire generation of boys who were not told anything about how their sisters were changing. While we gave our daughters new ideals and role models, no one bothered to tell their brothers that they ought to change too!

Girls drive two-wheelers and cars. It is considered an essential life skill. You can often hear dads proudly proclaiming that their daughters can drive very well indeed and they don't need a father/husband/brother to take them anywhere.

However, boys were never taught that cooking is an essential life skill. You don't see parents proudly saying that their son can cook and doesn't need a mother/wife/sister to feed him (and keep him alive!).
We don't tell our sons that it is okay for them to be paid less than their wives or stay at home to take care of the kids while their spouses continue to work.

Men want to marry a working woman (in theory) but are completely unprepared for the practical reality of a marriage where both partners work. It means doing the dishes or supervising the maid when your wife has a report to complete, it means taking half the day off to take care of your sick son because your wife has an important presentation. It may even mean giving up a promotion or moving to a new city for your spouse's career.

Because we don't tell our sons all this, they continue to expect that their wife will automatically give up the job/promotion/transfer in favour of the family whereas they will never have to take a step back from their own careers.

Boys are still raised the way they were for the last many generations.

Women are upset that dinner and the house, kids, in-laws, maid is still their responsibility while the men don't know what they did wrong. After all, they allow' their wives to work, what more do they want?

*Let us not only empower women, but also prepare men to set their expectations right.
