GREAT to see you here
I know I have a soft spot for you

I see it this way

They are well meaning, simple yet accomplished small town folk that are traditional and ritualistic. They are not trying to torture Teeku.
The brothers conducted an investigation, and found nothing wrong

Not all old fashioned people are evil and cruel

Teeku is not prepared for it thats more like it
She married him only to get to Chandan

The in laws have two happy well adjusted DILs
They have a big family.
Every new bride is accountable for many things. Thats how it is in arranged marriages. SoSy was very liberal that way. II could wear shorts at home

Her parents were very traditional

90% of arranged marriages come with certain set deliverables
Not all of it is bad

Yes its certainly awkward and unfamiliar and inconvenient

If her brothers had put their foot down saying "Oh no this aint gonna work for our sis. She is too modern and careless to wear a pallu on her head all the time"
Nope

They didnt think too much about it

Wait until the Mom arrives. I bet Himani will have a lecture or two for Teeku. Lakshmi is kind, has a lot of gratitude for Guptas is very generous in acknowledging the big heart they have.

Yes she expects some things from Teeku. She has been married 12 hours.

Teeku can do it

Plus I believe some traditions in joint families came about because there are usually 15 to 20 people in the house a new bride wearing a bikini or shorts and roaming around the house is quite uncomfortable.

Maybe that should change, maybe not

I dont know

The problem here is as families the vaidyas and Guptas are opposite ends of spectrum . But people are good. With time conservative families learn to drop the ball as well a little bit with the next generation continuously talking to them to open a bit. One has got to try a little to work around the system to bring acceptable changes in accordance with time and mind you this doesn't hv to be issues like dresses, shorts or alchohol only. Here I am more referring to the younger generation like alka, Suman and Harit advising Lakshmi to be open to chandu getting a counselor. The point to be noted is none of them cowered in fear in addressing the issue. I feel time is key for people to come around . Confrontation doesn't get the desired effect all the time.

Very true

I notice Desis 70+ or 60+ usually like to address problems with prayer or home remedies or love and affection

younger people like to address problems with medication or counseling

Sita Ram Vaidya is a legal scholar. He was willing to be patient to see his grandson, but Harit stepped in and obtained custody in one swoop
They dont want to punish or persecute Avantika

She will have all the freedoms the other two DILs have. She will have to "earn" it in some ways. I noticed many in my generation did not make enough effort to get close to their in-laws the first year
Didnt think the in-laws were worthy enough.

Those women still struggle 20 years later even...

Its ridiculous to say "Yeah mine was an arranged marriage but I wont respect my in laws"

(I have a friend who would refuse to let her heart patient MIL cook a hot cup of rice in the evening for herself. She would insist she should eat the cold leftovers from weeks ago (as many working Desi women I know are notorious for eating weeks old cold stale food because they are too busy busting their ass for a boss but wont cook fresh food daily for family)

In some ways this will be a story of Teeku adjusting to reality of arranged marriages, deconstructing the image she has in her mind about lawyers as dull boring men lacking sex appeal
Harit realizing she is willing to go to any extent for her love for the child

I'm a big believer of...when we live as joint families, learning on the job as I like to put it that way is, just giving in a little will get them to give in a little as well. When we do other good things for them with things they usually struggle and one takes an effort to help them out there, they start appreciating the value you add then begins the journey of adjustment . It's not like they are not aware of reality , they just need a little bit of collective coaxing from the group to let go a little .

I can smell a certain storm brewing... internal and external, chandan will throw tantrums so will she ...harit will get really impatient and then the drama will truly start.

poor poor thing Teeku.
She did not relaise with chandan came the rest of the package too, She knows nothing of the Vaidyas but the Vaidyas know how far she can go for chandan who is her own by choice! They are both thankful and appreciate her for that i believe.

Harit needs to show why he is desirable and Teeku needs to learn nothing comes on a platter in life even if it an arranged match where a lot of the work is done by the parents on both sides provided they are well meaning and its not an ego slam thinghy!!

Btw i even changed my DP Nisha - it's a moon till my all knowing husband pointed out on FT that Chandan and Chand may sound similar but they are different😆

you have us hooked but please give us the insatiatble lot more and sooon please.

Grateful you take the timeout to write the stories in the first place. Thanks for the space and the dudes 😉

Chased by a cop😛

Her parents came soon after, their door was open propped up by a chair as Chandan played with his remote controlled Corvette, claiming to be bad bad man

Teeku ran out of the room a dozen times to fetch it as the car sped down the hallway crashing into the sofas by the wall, or on womens' feet,

Teeku later joining in with a cop car and remote

Gauri and Garima joined in on the fun, and Chandan seemed to forget he was in a strange hotel, and he had missed his Maasi a lot

Harit had gone back to texting his friends, chuckling intermittently

Teeku didn't care, she was really not paying any attention to him either

She heard Himani's voice and turned around as she bent to pick up his car

"MAAA? she sprinted towards a Himani, now elegantly dressed in a pink Chanderi saree

"You look SO GORG she said accusingly

"AND YOU look lovely as a bride Himani hugged her and exhaled, and hugged her again

"Are the troops here? Teeku asked tearing up

"No beta... most are either asleep or throwing up. Actually one of them is throwing up Himani giggled

"Sheesh! "Teeku said firmly

"She LOVES it" Himani insisted, on Meeta's behalf, just in case her newly wed daughter decided to live a life of celibacy

"Throwing UP?" Teeku challenged, Arms on her hips

"Matlab, hum keh rahe hain... its all for good"

"babies are cute" Teeku nodded

"thank God she has not completely sworn off babies" Himani did a sigh of relief

Shyam appeared off the elevator

"Khaana keh diya humne neeche lag raha hai he smiled hugging his darling daughter.

Teeku handed her cop car to Gauri, handed the remote to Garima, like a child that had just found a different exciting toy.

The family chatting along the corridor gawked, mumbled or whispered at how Avantika teased her Dad

"where is Harit? Himani reminded her daughter she had a husband now

Chandu showed Himani his Corvette

She picked him up hugged him kissed him appreciated the Corvette and handed him to Shyam

"Umm.. he is in the room? Teeku responded distractedly as she powered up the car.

She let the car drive into "their room

Himani did polite namastes along the way and checked on the relatives

"Ma ko dekhi to beti ki shaqal khil gayi. Dekhen kitani Khushi a woman chuckled

"Sabse chhoti hai aur laadli bhi Himani was embarrassed

"Munna bhi sabse chhota hai the lady reminded Himani about "their goods

Himani peeked

Harit's back was turned to the door

His feet up on the desk in a cinder block grey lace up casual shoes.

"How are you? Good evening Himani said cheerfully

He quickly jumped off the chair

"Hello he tucked his hair back smoothening the mane and rubbed his raspy cheeks in embarrassment

He walked up, tried to hug and then chose to touch her feet

"Welcome... Avantika was around here he informed

"Oh we saw her, she is racing with Chandan Himani smiled

"We?

"Dad... her Dad is here too Himani said

"Oh? Harit looked visibly anxious as if he should change into more appropriate day-after marriage-groom-clothing

Too late

Shyam appeared

Greetings were exchanged

Teeku and Chandu reappeared panting

"I can take you to my parents room he promised

"You guys should go eat Himani ordered

"Ma... hum abhi chai peeye Teeku pointed to her 90% full cup

Lakshmi heard the commotion and appeared

Teeku frantically rummaged for her dupatta in the messy heaped up bed

Harit chuckled as he watched... his on the lam wife had a guilty flushed face, and was doing some serious damage to the already messy bed. 😳
