We tend to change our opinion as we evolve while we live in an unfamiliar place. I found myself being totally anti gun until recently. I am no longer
But I CANNOT own one.

In fact I got into an argument with a friend over dinner Friday. She suggested us Desi parents with "boys" teach our boys to be more "social more outgoing go have fun and shed inhibitions" etc etc

She happens to work with a bunch of painfully shy Indian engineers she said who refuse to look at the American client in the eye and speak boldly

IMO its ridiculous.
Just because some guy is painfully shy at work it doesnt mean they wont have friends or girlfriends.
Secondly its very easy to advise "parents of boys" to coach them into becoming party animals. We live in the time of #metoo
What could be consensual at night could very well be termed rape in the morning

I dont want my teen to risk his life and end up in the slammer because some aunty thinks he needs to have a social life

Id rather he be a virgin until 25 or 30.

I told her that.

I invited her to invite boys over to her house so her daughter can socialize as much as she likes, weekly overnight parties. (I should have asked her if she will allow my son to be a "party animal" in a setting where her daughter is😛)

Whats good for the gander should be good for the geese?
Or whatever that is

Some are Desis in brown skin color and bad Amreekan accent only, all else they are "white"👏

Some of our friends here send their children to church camps and unfortunately stuff happens there amongst these children. One kid hides weed in there holy book... reason ... his parents won't suspect to open his holy book. Isn't that too too sad. ??.

Catholic priests have molested kids, gymnastic coach has molested over 200, Mormon Scout leaders have molested young boys on camping trips (my younger one is in Scouts)
Religion is not immune to molestation. In fact much crime and debauchery happens under the garb of religion. (Nobody knows how many boys have been raped at vedic schools across India.)
Most so called educated accomplished women that go to the ISCKON temple in town go there to bad mouth other women.

It is possible to lead a honest civil life. You dont have to behave poorly in order to be happy
But some dont choose it

It's tough to see how children can be so disconnected with their parents. I see that as a main issue in my Neighbourhood. They put a huge yard sign out Happy Sixteen, get them a car and THEN
THEY ARE DONE. Huge homes where the teens easily get through the security systems to have group of friends come in at night , and do alcohol and other stuff. It's so important to have open lines of communication with kids isn't it? Why is that such a big deal ?

Kalpana
We were extremely strict with our teen when he was in high school.
We told him categorically NO dating, no kissing no fondling no sleepovers, no bodily juices on our couch

We told the kid "Until you dont have a college degree and a job if you make a kid you pay for it."

Many Desi kids I know of are sexually active (may be the right thing to do) but we are your teepeecal backward Iyers

We didnt want any gora parent knocking on our door saying he raped their daughter

Isko experience karne ke liye is country ke thand aur snow ko hum jhel nahi rahe😆

Incidentally I was just booking my tickets for her daughter's arrangement scheduled in a month and half's time from now which she is conducting in the same school premises . I saw this news flash. Called her. Only a small relief when she told me that her daughters go to the neighboring school. Yeah but the dance Prgm is scheduled to be held there. Couldn't talk to her for long as she is helping out her friends and their children after she got out of work. She says it's unbelievable as that's supposed to be voted as a very safe city with lot of people moving into this area because of the school. Very very unfortunate.

Nineteen sporadic incidents since the beginning of Jan !!!!!!!

So sad to see this happen over and over again. 😭
With teenage kids, I can only pray for the parents going thru this.

Dork in a wrap

Harit appeared shortly his hair was tousled and his 5 0 Clock shadow turning into an 8 PM growth, she tried not to watch him. But she did... he looked like a visitor or guest at the wedding. Not even that... in his grey cords and black tee he was a...

"Betaaa.. kidhar hain aap? Sita Ram was not kind

"Neeche Maneet Akshat Rahil ke saath he looked shocked

She had stopped crying, just hugging Chandan as he lay motionless in her arms hiccupping after a long bout of weeping

"Shaadi ho chuki hai, doston ko oopar bula lein, koi rahega inko baat karne ke liye

Chandan kept pushing her dupatta off her head, she kept pulling it over her head

"Why are you doing that? I don't like it Chandan screamed

Lakshmi brought tea for her

"Ma aapki chal padi hain she smiled

"Lunch bheja, shaam ka nashta bheja, aapke ghar se khoob khatir ho rahi hai beta Lakshmi ack graciously

Teeku nodded dazed

She wished she could go back right now

"Lekar jaayen Sita Ram suggested

His hands were tucked in his jeans pockets in the back

He wandered to her slowly

That scent she was able to recognize now amber cypress citrus wafted

"Avantika he called out her name

Her eyes were too puffed up for her to be able to look at him without embarrassment

"Teeku Maasi stayyy Chandu began to cry

"Betaa... Maasi yeh agle kamre mein hain Lakshmi tried to gently extricate the boy

He began to sob again

"I can hold him he bend down and grabbed the kid

Briefly she felt the back of his fingers under her chin, he took a step back as if signaling he didn't intend to touch her

She withdrew as well leaning on the pillow as much as possible

Lakshmi noticed that

He picked up a moaning Chandan

"jayen beta, hum aur chai bhejte hain

A couple old ladies entered the room

Lakshmi whispered to touch their feet, "dupatta le lena sar par beta

She bend down losing her dupatta, then grabbed and wrapped it around her shoulders and head

She prayed her mother would be here soon

"Beta, wahin baithen aap... baat karen Sita Ram instructed his son

Chandu was now perched on Harit's arm

He turned around to make sure Teeku was by his side

They entered the room

Chandan pulled her head scraf down childishly not liking it one bit

She "tcched and wore it yet again since ma in law had just chided her "hamesha sar par dupatta rakhen"

"I don't care for it Avantika" he told her bluntly. "I doubt she meant me when she asked you to wear it" all tongue-in-cheek🤣

She let it fall to her feet with visible relief

He sat in his chair and she sat on the bed and grabbed a box of Legos left there from last night..
