I came up to you offering you the life no one else
could've given you.
I came up to you offering you the love no one
could've given you.
And you threw it back at me,
in my face like it didn't matter.
If only you knew...
that I am the dream of what never was.
I am the dream of what will never be.
I am the dream that goes far beyond
what you can see.
I am, I am, I am,
I am vengeance
I am silence
I am penance
I am passion
I am the cause of your reactions.
I am all you want and all you'll never have.
I am here to mock you at my whim.
I'll steal your crown from your head
as I lullaby you to sleep.
Only to show you how emotions run deeper than
what you carry on top of your head.
I'll run into the dark forest where I'll laugh
at my own jest.
I am, I am, I am.
I am the dream of what once was
and will never be.
This I, this is me,
this is all I shall ever be.

"I am who I am Kripa. I am what I am. Who you have made me. But you cannot stop me". These were Angad's final words to Kripa before he left out the door, promising in his mind to return…

Restless Heart

Sadness crept into the narrow halls of the apartment and into his restless heart. The cold breeze coming from the window was nothing compared to the coldness in his veins. Had it not been enough that he had to live without his own name and identity, that now his dear ones were also far away? What justice had occurred here he pleaded to the Almighty. What justice shall occur?

Angad sat by the window watching the snow flakes fall one by one. He had to live now he thought. He had to be what he once was. He was Angad Khanna, and that's he'll be once more. He's not Das…he never was. All aspects of life had it's pro's and con's. Angad mentally reviewed them in his mind. What did being Angad Khanna give him? Poverty, loneliness, agony, hunger? None that sounded all that attractive. What did Das Malhotra give him? Money, power, status, love, compassion, passion. Isn't that all a person would want in life? Angad sat by the window, watching the snow flakes fall one by one. He heard the silent wind…shrieking into his ears.

The Manor had been silent all day. Not a sound from any side as Kripa walked down. All she could hear was her heals trapping upon the marble floor. Had it all been over? The silence seemed to be taking over their lives. The silence seem to be over shadowing the laughter that once was. The silence seemed to be killing her bit by bit…slowly…in silence. Was it Angad she missed? Or was it Das? Kripa was never able to get over Das and his sudden death. Especially, with Angad around being Das. Kripa had always felt the Das, her Das was still here with her…with them all. Sahil had gone to his friends house today. Kripa couldn't bear to see her son, her baby in this state. But she was happy, she was happy everything that happened really did happen. If Sahil was in this state after his "father" leaving, Kripa dreaded to think about the kind of horrible state he'd be in if he ever figured out his father was…dead.

The silence in the manor was killed abruptly when the door bell rang. The entire house echoed the sound of the door bell. Kripa walked slowly to the door expecting Sahil. When she opened the door…it sure wasn't Sahil. Kripa could have sworn she heard the lighting gorge behind them. Long ago the devil had taken human form, and sworn for no damn reason to come n earth and make hell of Kripa's heavenly life. And now, here he was…the devil himself, in person.

" To what may I owe the honor of you coming here?", asked Kripa sarcastically.

The man at the opposite end of the door, sure hadn't appreciated Kripa's sarcasm for he seemed to have taken it as an insult.

" How shall an honor less soul such as your understand honor in its true form my dear", he replied while making his way into the house without any gesture of any invite from Kripa.

"What are you doing here?", demanded Kripa angry at his insolence.

"Where is my son and grandson you wretch", yelled Aryan Malhotra, Das's father.

Kripa let out a light laughed and walked up to Aryan. "Do not make the mistake of raising your voice in my house Mr. Aryan, or did you forget? This is my house".

" My son was a fool to marry a wretch like you". I knew from the beginning you were only after his money, and now you've proven your true colors, he exclaim in his highest tone.

Kripa simply laughed and walked a circle around him, "Well, what can I say daddy dearest…Like father, like son"

"Where is Das, I asked", Aryan demanded of Kripa.

Kripa had a confused and innocent expression on her face, and if she didn't understand his question, in truth…she was mocking him, "Oh well, he's your son…don't you have his number? Oh! Yes, I forgot…Das threw you out of his life a long time ago didn't he? Well daddy dearest, if Das didn't want you then…why would he want you now?"

Kripa enjoyed mocking Aryan a lot more then she thought she would. It quenched a dying thirst she had in her. Today she had everything…and he had to come to her and beg for his son. Well too bad Mr. Aryan, you son is dead. Kripa's thoughts suddenly stopped there. How happily she was proclaiming that Das, her Das had died. Her heart stopped, and suddenly everything was silent again. What had become of her? She was using Das's death and her ill fortune of having to bring Angad here as a weapon against Aryan. Kripa was disgusted at herself…how could she do such a thing.

"Mr. Aryan you son is not here, and now I would like for you to leave", commanded Kripa. "Leave, before you compel me to call security", she added.

Aryan, still with his head held up high, left out the door mumbling something in Hindi as he left. Kripa locked the door and fell to the ground. So cold, for lifeless. Never before had she thought so ruthlessly about Das's death. It seemed to have been a victory for Kripa. She sat there, and cried in silence listening only to the silent wind shrieking through her ears. How ruthless had this life made her. How restless her heart had become.

Angad sat on a stool in the bar, looking out the window. The street lights, car lights, star lights, combined it seemed like a light show. It's been a while since Angad came to a bar. A long while. He enjoyed it…being alone, single, in a bar drinking. What could be better? Angad's thought didn't stop there, what could be better he thought? Playing airplane with Sahil, making cookies with Betty, teaching Sahil how to play football, being with Kripa. Yes, being with Kripa, sharing a dinner with Kripa, talking to Kripa, listening to Kripa, making love to Kripa. Kripa…

Angad thoughts were interrupted with a drunk man yelling at the waiter. The waiter was telling the drunken man that it was time for there bar to close. There was yelling, scream, glass's breaking, beer flowing all over the place, and Angad sat there…a silent observer. The drunken man had finally left as silence filled the entire bar. Angad was the sole person in the entire bar. Angad was just finishing up his last drink, as he knew the waiter would come to tell him to leave soon too. The waiter did come, but not to tell Angad to leave. He had poured another glass for Angad. As confusion built in Angad's brain he asked the waiter had it not really been closing time?

"Sir, what are you talking about…you own this bar", responded the waiter.

Das had owned so many restaurants, bars, and markets that Angad would lose count of them. There was another thing Angad had lost count of tonight. Note another aspect of the life of Das Malhotra…free drinks. Now, whether that was a pro or con was another mystery all in itself.

It had finally stopped snowing. The whether outside was a beautiful one. The graceful wind blew on their faces. Kripa sat on the porch with the wind blowing on her face. Her tears felt frozen unto her skin and her breath looked like fog. She sat there in silence, which was soon over as Kripa a sound from the kitchen. She walked inside and saw a drunk Angad sitting. Suddenly all the silence was over. All the noise was gone. Kripa walked up too Angad in question.

"Angad, your…"

"Yeah…I'm drunk.

Kripa was about to walk to Angad, when Angad got up and walked to Kripa slowly. "Kripa, can I see Sahil for a minute please. I miss him a lot."

"Kripa, your crazy if you think I'm going to the you come in front of my son in this condition".

"Please Kripa, he's my son too", begged Angad

"Have you gone mad? Angad, are you listening to your self? You are not Sahil's father Angad, your not Das", Kripa yelled in a whispering tone.

"Then let me be Kripa. Let me be Das again, let me stay Das forever"

" Angad, our deal is over, we are divorced, and you have too leave right now"

"Wrong love…we're not divorced"

Those last words left Kripa in shock. Everything started spinning all at once. Angad held Kripa and brought her close to him. Kripa had never seen this sight of Angad, Kripa sure was hating Angad right now.

" Right after we left the court…I got nervous. I couldn't stay without you two, and so I called my lawyer and told him to not give in the papers to the judge. And so love…out divorce papers are still in my lawyers office gathering dusk on a shelf. We aren't divorced, lets just pretend like none of this happened. Kripa…."

" Angad Khanna, I cant believe greed would make you stoop this low"

"No, not greed…love. Love for this family is making me stoop this low. I don't care about the money, you can have it. I'll just be a worker…in the office, in the house," Angad explained as he began to kiss Kripa's neck.

" Don't you dare touch me", said Kripa pushing Angad away from her.

"Okay…I wont touch you. I don't want anything from you. Just let me stay here, with you, with Sahil. Kripa, I'm willing to become Das for the rest of my life, why cant you just let it happen!", he exclaimed.

" You need to leave right now", pleaded Kripa helplessly.

Angad heard the pain in Kripa's voice, "Okay. I'll leave. But I'll be back tomorrow okay. To see Sahil".

As Angad turned around to leave, he heard Kripa's lasts words, " I hate you Khanna".

"I am who I am Kripa. I am what I am. Who have made me. But you cannot stop me". These were Angad's final words to Kripa before he left out the door, promising in his mind to return…
