Part 12

The sound of the car's horn echoed through the house reaching Shaurya's room. Shaurya yelled at Lavanya asking her to wait as he stood in front of his full length mirror running a comb through his hair. He then grabbed the set of keys from the dressing table and rushed down the stairs. Shaurya jumped into the car and immediately started the car, ignoring an obviously annoyed Lavanya, who had been waiting for him in the car for the last forty-five minutes and honking the horn for the last thirty.

"You do you know we are just starting our journey and you are not going to be acutally seeing ..." Lavanya stopped in between her sentence as she realized she had no idea what the name of the girl, who Shaurya was suppose to marry, was. "What is her name?" She asked.

"Whose name?"

"The girl you are marrying!"

"Okay first of all, I have not said yes yet. And second of all her name is ...ummm ....hmmm..."

"Wow, you don't even know her name!"

"Hey I know her name. It is ... hmm...what is it...umm..."

"Shaurya you are completely self absorbed aren't you! Come on, you don't even know the name of the girl you are going to marry."

"I know it. It's just at the back of my mind right now, I need to concentrate on my driving! Don't ask me such question. And for the last time, I have not said yes yet."

"You haven't said no either."

"Shut up!"

"Okay, as you wish. You concentrate on your on driving and I will be taking a little nap wake me up in about one hour."

Lavanya had only shut her eyes about five minutes ago when she heard Shaurya whispering her name. She tried to ignore him and pretend she was asleep. However, after a few minutes she felt Shaurya shaking her shoulder. She opened her eyes and frowned at Shaurya. She wanted to smack Shaurya on his head for being so irritating.

"What do you want?"

"Oh you are up! That was quick." A small smirk appearing on his face.

"What do you want Shaurya?"

"Nothing. Well I just wanted to know why do you want to go to Bombay?"

"What? I don't want to go to Bombay. I am just helping you." Lavanya said, sitting up on her seat and looking straight onto the road instead of at Shaurya.

"Oh please Lavanya I don't believe it. Now tell me. What is it?"

Lavanya slowly turned her head to look at Shaurya, who now had his eyes back on the road. A small smile appeared on her face. Something about her being there with Shaurya, and watching him being patient and waiting for her to answer as he concentrated on his driving made her feel at ease. She turned back to look at the road and answered with the same smile still on her face. "I am going to go see my father."

Shaurya slammed on the brakes! Bringing the car to stop. Shaurya looked at Lavanya who smiled back at him. His eyes were asking all the question he couldn't.

"My parents divorced when I was sixteen, and you can say I never quiet got over it. So I want to meet him one last time, and get all my anger out at him. Tell him how much I hate him for leaving us, and how you know I hate him. Yada yada, the same old sob story." Shaurya was surprised at Lavanya casual tone, there were no tears in her eyes, like one would expect, or any hesistance in her voice due to a knot that often forms in our throat, when someone speaks of something emotional. "You see Shaurya, having closure like this important. Especially if I ever want to have a normal relationship with a guy. I mean I don't know if you have noticed or not, but I am not the best person when I around ... well you know ... Men!" Lavanya shrugged her shoulders and once again smiled at Shaurya, Shaurya was speechless, he simply watched Lavanya, trying to understand her.

"By the way Shaurya. I have noticed something. How come you haven't gotten mad at me for calling you Shaurya and not you beloved nick name, Shaw?" Lavanya asked taking the attention away from herself.

"Huh?" Shaurya laughed, he couldn't believe this girl. She was something else. So casually she had told him that she going to meet her father, whom she had not seen in the last three years. No tears, or over the top melodrama. He remembered the day she had held onto him and cried when she had been rejected addmission. He felt that the situation should have been reversed. He laughed again. She was definately unlike any one else he knew.

"Well are you going to answer me or just laugh like a stupid person?" Lavanya prompted him.

"Well it is because no one calls me Shaurya, everyone calls me Shaw. And you are like no one else I know. You are so different. So I like it when you call me Shaurya. It sounds nice when you say it. And it suits you, always doing things the opposite way."

Lavanya let out a little laugh and then turned to look out her window. She had included Shaurya into her life, by including him on the past she had never shared with anyone. But was he really a part of her life now, even if what she had told him was a little different than what had actually happened?
