"Too soon"

Appa called him that morning, on 15th August 5th morning after II began throwing up
II had told Akka about the miscarriage on 14th afternoon
Amma had been so heartbroken she couldnt call II

Plus II was in so much pain she was medicated after a Doc visit
Akka feared it might leave lasting effects on her uterus
So on Doc recommendation II had undergone a D&C...
Hence why she was knocked out when Sam came and got him that morning
"how is she?" Appa asked glumly

"She is asleep" he said shortly

"When can she come back?" Appa asked bluntly

"I dont know that" he responded bristling

"Hmmm..."
Appa sighed and groaned audibly unable to control his tears


"It was too soon anyway after Maanvi" he said cynically

He didnt respond

"May I talk to Samyukta?" he asked

R&B got up from the couch and went looking for her downstairs

She was walking the kids in a quiet traffic less lil plot of land behind the apartment building
The girls tried to climb the bike stands and rotate the wheels of the parked locked up rental bikes

The weather was breezy and cool

"Hey" he said shortly

She turned in fear

"Its Mr Iyer" he said

Her expression changed to one of fear she gesticulated indicating she wont talk

He walked over and handed her his phone anyway as both girls clamored for his attention

He bend down picking up Nivi
Lasya screamed and flung herself on the the ground and rotated like a starfish

Sam glared at him and turned away

"Hello Uncle... umm.. namaste" she said politely

"Hello Samyukta, how are u?" Appa said softly

"Very well Uncle... umm.. mera matlab... theek" she checked herself

And made a face...

"Mrs Iyer wants to talk" Appa handed teh phone

"Kaisi hai?" Amma asked with concern

"She is asleep aunty

"Is she in pain?" Amma enquired

"I dont think so" Sam paused

"On the one hand its not like its her first... on the other its still was a baby" Amma cleared her throat

"U are right aunty, she didnt keep track accurately, it was over 6 weeks old"

Amma groaned

"Its not like its too soon, Mr Iyer was born 10 months after his brother" Amma explained

Sam and her were silent except for the sniffling

"she has not harmed a fly" Amma said proudly

"He neither" Sam was a lil defensive
"Yes yes" Amma agreed

"How is he?" Amma asked

"Woh waise baat nahi karta... abhi ekdum chup hai aunty" she sighed

"Have they both talked?" Amma enquired

Sam shook her head

"Umm.. kal raat ko u know... woh wahan se lautkar shaayad" she tried to come up with a affirmation

"If she can come back and take rest it will be good no?" Amma said

"Aunty here also he will not let her do anything" Sam was adamant

"Samyukta I am sorry ur first trip after their marriage..." Amma stopped

"Aunty I am not offended, usne plan nahi kiya" Sam chuckled

Amma chuckled
"she didnt plan it... u are right, otherwise she could have avoided the plane" Amma sighed "Too soon to travel"

"they lead such busy lives, dono ko fursat nahi"


"Naa appave sonnen, anga pona avala summa vida maatan" (he wont leave her alone) Appa was heard complaining

Amma glared at him to shut up

"Enna adakarey nee... avan ishtathukku irukaan" (he lives on his own terms, u keep shutting me up) Appa continued

"I will call you soon Samyukta Mrs Iyer is saying we must thinking abt visiting her" Amma lied

"Arey nahi aunty, she will be fine, main aapko promise karti hoon" Sam said loudly

"Umm... OK... thanks... uh... um... thanks chalo" Amma said

Sam turned around to find herself having walked upto the end of the block

She weaved her way back dodging pedestrians

The girls were trying to RIDE HIS BICYCLE

He was smiling, coaxing them and even seemed relaxed

But the smile disappeared when he saw her

"Everything OK?" he asked

They both held the kids and R&B rolled the bike around the block

"Do u have to go to work?" she asked pausing

Upstairs II had woken up to go to the bathroom brush her teeth, she found the EPT in the drawer that held her trinkets

She picked it up stared at it and put it away carefully


Leaning on the sink and bending down, feeling her lower belly

II began to weep

can't say much I have no idea how it feels not trying to either it sounds far worse scared.

How can they handle it ,they have to ,its painful

My heart goes out to RB and II, especially II. Dealing with a lost baby and the physical pain that comes with it, oh goodness. Everybody has their own way to deal with the tragedy, RB goes silent, II weeps, Ranjan is trying to be helpful and appa is letting off on RB his favorite punch bag.

No amount of millions can undo what's been done. In same length, postmortem and playing the blame game is far cruel than the loss itself though the physical pain a woman's body endures adds up the emotional mess.
Illogical is the only logic that you can apply to Mr. Iyer's theories . Why do we all find it difficult to moral police the demons in our mind when they decide to do a dirty dance !!!!!!
