she didnt worry about her phone, she had the next week off, a Chennai trip in her bag, list of places to shop, and places to eat, she was too busy
Athai made adai for her, she dunked it in avial (drumsticks, raw banana, carrots, white pumpkin in a ground coconut, yogurt and cumin gravy) and feasted
She was slowly adding a lb a month all that she had lost feeding her fat daughter
Appa monitored how it was made, instructing Amma to cook the adai in ghee
Her phone rang on Appa's bed
Amma was stringing flowers, Athai was cooking adai, Appa answered her phone
"Hello Mr Iyer umm... may I talk to II?" he asked
"She is eating dinner" Appa said firmly
"Umm.. I can call back later" R&B said
"You are supposed to go with your wife, you are supposed to provide encouragement, a boost, a enthusiasm" Appa listed audibly disappointed
"that is the meaning of marriage. Madhu took care of Anna for 35 years, I willingly support her career" Appa gave him sermons
"Umm.. I cant take time off work, we end our fiscal Qtr soon" he explained slowly
"Work is always there I say, this is once in a million chance, do u know of any body that sings for movies?"
Appa demanded "She should have become a popular singer 10 years ago, atleast now she is getting a chance no? Without the husband's support how can she be successful?" Appa didnt spare any words
"First wedding, then baby... there is no time to sing... despite that she got this offer" Appa finished
R&B didnt answer, Ranjan knew or was related to a bunch of wealthy producers in Mumbai
His Chachu's daughter in law's hiccuping career was only held together by Ranjan's kindness
"She has a baby, she is taking time off work and I am traveling with her" Appa ranted in angst

Nivi slept to the tunes
