"Love is pretty…"
It was a late summer night when she walked along the shoreline. The stars glittering like diamonds above her, a cool gentle breeze played in the air, yet every now then she caught flashes of lightening light up the sky. It would rain tonight; she mused and wondered whether it would be a heavy downpour or just a light one. But she certainly hoped it would rain. The sight of the rolling snake like hills, as the rain fell against it was simply spectacular. Yes, even at night. And she loved that. She loved the monsoon season, since it made her appreciate the true beauty of nature.
With her arms wrapped together in a simple shawl, she sighed wearily, as she gazed out at the shoreline. For a couple of seconds, she debated briefly whether to place her feet in the cool water, it would feel wonderful with the water tickling her legs, but then her pants would be a little wet. Does it really matter? She asked her self. And without any further thought she impulsively placed her feet in the water.
"Kripa?"
Her face lit up with a smile. Angad.
She spun around facing him; standing up on her toes she kissed him lightly. He surprised her when he pulled her closer, deepening the kiss and she could only sigh resting her head by his heart as she listened to his heart beat.
"We need to talk."
He said a few moments later, as they walked along the shoreline arm in arm with her sandals dangling from one hand, while his arm casually looped around her waist.
She pulled back looking at his face. "Do we have to?" She was grinning, as she bit her lower lip in apprehension hoping he would refuse.
"Yes." He gave her an assuring smile, "But it won't be so bad, Kripa."
She looked away and continued walking, "I sure do hope so."
"It's about time we spoke about a few things. About your dad…about…"
She turned around to face him, "It doesn't matter anymore, Angad."
"We need to sort out things, Kripa." He paused stilling for time, but his tone tense especially when he caught traces of fear flickering in her eyes, "I don't want any misunderstandings in the future. Do you understand?"
She nodded asking him to continue.
He held his breath, "Did you know that Mahen & lizy were involved in bringing us together?"
She was frowning, "Did they now?"
"Yes." He said finally releasing his breath half surprised that she wasn't angry, "I just learnt about it this morning."
"Their behavior was quite odd, actually, but I never would have imagined…" she trailed off, "So, Arin was never kidnapped?"
"No. It was all their plan to bring us together."
She sank on her feet in the sand, her face paling, "You cannot be serious…." She looked away.
He rubbed her frozen palms. "I haven't spoken to them, Kripa, ever since I found out. I could not believe it myself. They shouldn't have played with your feelings like that."
She shook her head her color returning, "What they did was wrong. And they shouldn't have taken Arin like that." She told him, "But, I suppose they had best intentions at heart. I'm not going to hold this against them, Angad."
He was surprised with her words and so was she. He could tell.
"Are you certain? How could you forget everything they put you through?"
"It's over, Angad. It's all over." She told him calmly, "And everyone makes mistakes, Angad, we can't just hold this against them for life and never talk to them. They matter more to us, than their mistake, Angad. Besides if it weren't for them - I really don't believe we would together today."
He smiled then, "Yes. I suppose you are right. They were compelled to take matters in their own hands, since I was an idiot!" he mumbled tartly, as he held his breath, "You were always, in front of me, yet it took me ages to figure the feelings I had for you."
"Hey!" she said chuckling, as she slapped his arm, "Stop calling the handsome man I love an idiot! But, yes you were being an ass." She looped her arms around his neck grinning, "That I cannot deny." resting her forehead against his, "It took you three long years" The memories of everything in the past flashed back in her mind. Bitter Sweet.
"And I admire your patience, Sharma." He told her seriously, "There is another matter I've to inform you about. I spoke to Lucas this afternoon and I'm joining back."
"You are?" She asked in surprise. But, then it was his profession and she always knew he would get back to it. He was good at it too. The best. He was the best cop in town.
"There is something I would like to mention as well." She said looking away, "I spoke to daddy this afternoon."
Angad stood still for a second she noticed, "You did?"
"Yes." She trembled, "It will take some time for us to get close, but I think we will get there, Angad." She sounded nervous.
He brought her close and kissed her temple, "I'm proud of you, Kripa" he said meeting her eyes, "I'm glad you spoke to your dad."
"Thanks. I'm glad I did too." She leaned back smiling, "So, officer, how did you figure things out anyway?"
"That I was madly in love you?"
Her heart did a triple flip flop at those words and she simply couldn't say anything except nod.
"Lizy" he replied, pulling her closer, "Stay" he said when she began to move and locked her again firmly in the circle of his arms, "Aaliyah, Mahen, Lizy ganged up on the night Aditya came"
She could imagine that, especially Aaliyah and Mahen. They were always on her side, especially Ali. She'd noticed Ali hardly ever interacted with her older brother and she felt partly responsible for that. It was mainly due to her, they both hardly ever spoke, otherwise prior to that night in Vegas, brother and sister had always gotten along so well. She made a mental note to get them back together, "That must have been awful. I am sorry that happened."
"Well, I am not"
"You aren't? Didn't they give you hard time?"
"Yes, they did, but I'm not sorry for that." He smiled at her, "Like you said earlier they brought us together and that's what matters the most more than anything."
