Shatranj ke Khilari
"Yeh sawaal kyon?" Neel tried not to squirm
He could feel the warmth in his cheeks as he reimagined holding her tantalizing curves
"Hamey laga" Bhuvan said, taking his glasses off and yawning again
Neel desperately wanted to know how he came to that conclusion
He was trying to hold himself back
"Aapse kuch kaha unhoney?" he asked trying to mainatin a stoic expression
"Arey nahi beta..." Bhuvan smiled
Neel wanted to dig more and stop both at the same time
He wanted to know why its obvious to the world that Suvechha is attracted to him
He didnt exactly want to have this conversation with his FIL
Nihar came out whining... "dad my foot hurts"
Neel got up
"6 ghante uchhlenge to furt to hurt karega" he said
Nihar looked miserable
"Mom ko kahen dekhengi? Kahin sprain to nahi kiya?" Bhuvan offered panicking
The men followed the boy to his room
Neel massaged it gently and they watched Nihar fall asleep
"You are a good father" Bhuvan said exhaling deeply
"I am not Dad... it just seems like I am because you no longer have a reference point" Neel said sadly
"Between the two of you you always worked well with Nihar" Bhuvan reminded
"thats because its a boy" Neel smiled sheepishly
"I watched you interact with that little girl" Bhuvan said
Neel felt a KA-BOOM inside like a shot gun going off
"Is that how he came to a conclusion?" Neel wondered
"she is a cute kid" Neel nodded
"Hamey kehti thi Nupur... aapko betiyan pasand hai" Bhuvan smiled fondly
Yep!
They were trying actively
Since Nihar turned 6, and since they both traveled the biology couldnt be maxed out
When Nihar turned 9 she passed
"Aur hamey ek bete ki zaroorat thi... hamey bhagwan ne teen betiyan di" Bhuvan smiled
His grief wiping out all traces of sleep
"Jo aapke saath shatranj khel le?" Neel smiled
Bhuvan's Dad and him played when they were young, Neel played whenever they got together
Every night in NOIDA they had played a game
Every night, Neel had beat him
Ragini sauntered in
"Soney ka iraada nahi shaayad?" she sat down on Nihar's computer chair, and then got up and looked at all the Naren Noodle comics
Neel couldnt bring himself to watch his MIL admire Suvi's work
Bhuvan noticed that...
"She is very artistic" Ragini said aloud
"Yep... I am told since they hired her McKinsey & Morrison has made it to the final three every year on the Creative Category at the Ad-India Awards
Ragini turned to look at him... and Neel shut up
"Ek game ho jaaye?" Neel said quickly
"She didnt bring her Mom today?" Ragini enquired
"They are not alive I am told" Neel said somberly
"Is she divorced?" Bhuvan asked "I did not see a husband"
"Umm... yeah.. u cud say that" Neel muttered
"A game Dad?" Neel asked getting up
"Aaj rehne dete hain beta?" Bhuvan begged
Neel smiled and nodded
He brought water for both
The parents retired for the night
"Woh besan ke laddoon waala dabba Suvechha laayin" Ragini murmured as she shut their dor
"Humne poochha unko... "Aapko chahti hain aisa mehsoos hua hamey?" Bhuvan said
Ragini looked stunned
"Every now and then I need to be reminded men dont beat around the bush" she laughed
Bhuvan smiled shyly "That chemical is absent in our brains" he smiled
"What did he say?" Ragini lay down and yawned
"He appeared surprised"
"Huh!" Ragini questioned
"Kya matlab
"Jab woh Gagan ki gaadi ki taraf gayin Neel ne unko poochha "Call karengi hamey?"
"Text nahi?" poochha unhoney
"Text nahi" kaha inhoney.
"To hamari gan na galat nahi thi" Bhuvan lay down and closed his eyes quietly
He had won tonight's game...
