She dropped Shravu home after his Math & Science coaching. Vandu wanted him to go to a center near South Ex.
Shubhang was falling sick month after month throwing her schedule off completely

II volunteered to help, picking up the child at 7:30 if she was home from work by then. She didnt get the job she applied for, so her enthusiasm for Ritu and the current job was lukewarm at best
She worked from 7- 4 two days a wekk and tried to be home with Nivi by 5 and then took her along to go bring Shravu home

Shravu was quieter these days, less chatty, more busy with his iphone 5

Nivi chattered all the way to South Ex and back

Nandu had someone coming home to help

Bala had strictly declined any offers to jointly study

II thought it was a good idea not to have to go pick Shravu up from Shanti Niketan every evening

Nandu's classes were from 3-6 PM daily
Rigorous and top notch, preparing him for ivies and UK colleges

Shravu's was very basic, just focussed on 10th and 12th boards

It was in a classroom setting with 15 kids

And quite pricey

Atleast Rs.3000 a month, she didnt know excatly

Nivi tried to touch Shravu she noticed as he sat by her

"Chithi, she is very talkative" Shravu exclaimed

"Yaaro madiri irukala?" II winked (does she remind u of someone?)

Shravu looked at her blankly

Shravu smiled akwardly

"Does Paati say u spoke a lot when u were a baby?" he asked logically

"I speak a LOTT now, what do u think?" II tried to yank a conversation

"Yaaroda text panrey da?" (who are u talking with?)

"My friend" he said and after a few minutes a "a BOY" he said

"Shravu... please raja" II squirmed

Pulling out of the densely packed South Ex gali

Shravu grunted

"We all have forgotten abt it" II reminded

"When u say you have forgotten that means it happened" he said making aface

"Chithappa was saying he wanted to hang with u, do u want to come on Saturday?" she asked softly

Shravu shrugged

"I dont want u to grow up so fast kanna" II choked

Three? two and a half? years ago, he chatered and yelled and shoted and jumped up and down and bobbed and did tricks and never sat still

This boy... she did not know

Someone honked almost scraping her car

Well... they did, as she tried to merge on to the flyover

Shravu looked up startled

"Atleast u heard it" she teased

He looked down on his phone"

"Talk to me da" II said

"I dont know... I just had a looong day... is Nandu coming?" he asked

"I think so" II jumped up, lying with joy

Shravu didnt look convinced


"Are u two still best friends?" she asked nervously

"I guess" Shravu said carelessly

"U have other best friends?" II asked

"I have many friends chithi, Arvind, Vinay and Prasad" he listed

"Prasad? Is that a south indian kid?" II asked nosily

"ALL three are Tamil" Shravu smiled joyously

"U talk to them in Tamil?" she asked shocked

"PINNA?" (what else?) he chuckled

II's heart sank

Its like something broke inside her

"Nandu is also part of the group no?"

"We always talk in Tamil Chithi, sometimes he will be bored and just walk away"

II didnt speak the rest of the drive home

She dropped him off and went home

He watched her pale face and Nivi's excited face

Nivi squealed, he grabbed her from his wife

The guard came in to tel him some one scraped her car

"I am sorry" she said sadly

He grit his teeth at her shame

"Is that it?" he asked

"Shravu and Nandu are no longer best friends" she let it all out weeping uncontrollably

So one of my various possibilities - word related disappearance came true! Thank goodness. HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY NISHA and happy independence to us too - independence from our fears. We were genuinely worried for you Nisha. But all well that ends well!
