Chapter 4A~ Taani's Decision

Rey stood on the college terrace,gazing at the night sky lit with tiny golden stars and the pristine moon. Stars...TaaRey..
"After I talk to her,will it be TaaRey anymore??"he thought fearing her reaction.
He felt the jingling of bangles behind him and knew she had arrived.He took a deep breath as she walked toward him.
"Hi Rey!!"Taani said brightly.
Rey turned toward her.He adored her bright smile for a moment. Would it still be intact at the end of this night??
"Hey."he said smiling slightly.
"I have so much to tell you!!Shuru karun??"
He nodded affirmatively,wondering what it was that excited her so.
"Ok so..kal se shuruat karti hun. Rey..itna sab kuch galat ho raha tha..itne fights aur sadness.Aapko apni identity chupani padhi mere wajahse,aapke dost..toh I decided to put an end to everything."she paused.
Rey eyed her curiously.She continued, " I spoke to Tauji.I told him everything about you and us."
Rey froze at her words.
"Abhi aise look mat do.Aage suno."she chuckled and narrated everything to him.
Rey's eyes bulged out of their sockets.He couldn't believe his ears!!
"What??"he exclaimed. "Unhone aise react kiya??Like he is OK with us??With me being a dancer??With Swayam??"he was shocked.
"Yes!!Even I was shocked.Rey..I fell in love with your dance before you.apki dance mein joh emotions thi..joh life thi,joh sachai thi mujhe usse pyaar hua tha.Main aapse aapki dance kaise cheen sakti hun??Mujhse galti hogayi Rey..isliye maine usey sudharna chaha. I left everything to Krishnaji and spoke to Tauji.And he understood!!And the best part was the way he spoke about Bhai and You. "she smiled.
Rey was speechless.He felt guilty,dejected instead of happy.What had he been about to do this girl??
But Taani did not notice his expressions.She went on with the next incident.
"And today morning he gave me my father's company papers.Which are in my name even today.Today it is the Mumbai and London branches of Shekawat Industries.Itne saalon se Tauji sambhal rahe the..ab woh mujhe train karna chahte hai."she stated.
"Papa ka sapna tha Rey..joh aaj mujhmein zinda hai. I have heard a lot about his business sense from Bhai and Tauji,and how I display a part of that efficiency already.Even when he was alive,he always had an acute sense of responsibility and knew how to execute stuff well.He was a calm person..which I guess has rubbed off on Bhai.Because Bhai spent lot of time with him. Of course after his death Bhai has been my world..still Papa ka sapna ab mera sapna hai.Bohot jald usey pura karungi. "she looked at the stars fondly,lost in her late father's thoughts.
At that moment,Rey realized there was so much he did not know about Taani.
He felt pangs of guilt hit his heart harder.
And the serenity which her face held contradicted the pain on his.
She turned to him anticipating a smiling face.She was shocked at the pained expression on his face.
"Kya hua Rey??Maine aapko itni saari good news di.Par aap khush nahi lag rahe??Kya baat hai??"she enquired concerned.
He turned away from her,trying to stop tears from flowing.
"Rey??"
"I am sorry Taani.."he mumbled.
"Sorry??Kis baat ke liye??"she asked surprised.
"Taani..yaad hai tumne mujhse kuch din pehle hi kaha tha ki tumhe apni career ki koi chinta nahi hai??That your dream is only the designation of Mrs Reyaansh Singhania??"he asked her still not able to face her.
"Haan par woh.."she began but he stopped her.
"Listen to me first."he said
She decided to remain silent.
"I..I was shocked. I knew your talents..and the fact ki tum sirf wife banna chahti..I just could not digest it. I did not want to be your entire world. Kyunki..aaj ki duniya mein ek ladki ka independent hona bohot important hai.And tum pichle dinon mein sirf mere baaremein,hamare baaremein soch rahi thi.Tumne woh dance fest waale responsibility to bhi mana kar diya. You weren't looking past me Taani. "he paused,and turned to look at her.
She looked shocked.Her eyes asking him thousands of questions.
"I just did not what to do.Main yeh nahi chahta tha ki tum mere liye itna kuch karo..aur apne liye..apne liye kuch bhi nahi. Being a housewife isn't easy..neither is it wrong.But for a talented girl like you,it isn't an option. I was scared kahi..kahi agar mujhe kuch hogaya toh tum kya karogi??Kaise jiyogi mere bina?? "he was in tears now.
Taani couldn't believe what he was saying.A lone tear flowed from her left eye.She was stunned.
"I even asked Swayam ki naye relationship mein ladkiyan kaise behave karti hai.He said aisa hota hai..but that only deepened my fears. I finally went to Sharon.Aur..."he couldn't continue.
"Aur??"she whispered.
"Humne plan banaya."he said looking down. "Fake break-up ka."his voice was a whisper now,only audible to her.
Every word of his,only added to her shock and pain.
"I decided ki main kuch aise karunga..which will force you to break up with me.And look beyond us.Look at yourself,at your strengths.I..I thought baat karne se tum nahi samjhogi."he felt ashamed now.
Taani couldn't even feel the tears flowing down her cheeks.She looked at him,unkown emotions gripping her. What was she supposed to say??
He looked up at her.The tears in her eyes pricked his heart even more.
"I would have executed my plan today..had I not heard you and Swayam talking in the Projector Room.Aur jab maine yeh suna ki tum businesswoman banna chahti ho..I couldn't understand anything.Later Sharon told me how you spoke to the gang and tumhare aur unke beech kaise sab thik hogaya. That is when I realized I had to talk to you.And now.."he trailed off.
She shut her eyes tight.He couldn't even step ahead to comfort her.
He wished he could just vanish from there.
"Mujhe please maaf kardo.."he pleaded,not knowing what else to say or do.
"Fake break-up ke baad aise hi sorry maangte??"she asked him,her eyes reflected the pain within her.
Rey couldn't answer.
"Ab kuch nahi hai bolne ko??Aap aise kaise.."she exclaimed frustrated.
"Kyu Rey??Ek baar mujhse baat kar liya hota! Itna bada decision?? You know what you would have done??You would have shattered my self-confidence!!You would have broken me much more than you have now,with your confession."she said,voice filled with pain.
"Taani main.."
"No Rey."she stopped him.."You..you almost betrayed my trust.Even now..I can't express..why Rey??"she cried.
He took a step ahead but she raised her arms,stopping him.
"I need some time.Main ghar jaa rahi hun."she said and walked away wiping her tears.
A broken Rey stared at her retreating back helplessly.
At Shekawat house,
Taani stormed into the house much to Swayam's surprise who was peacefully reading a book. She went straight into her room and shut the door,instantly worrying him.
"Taani???Taani??"he called out,rushing to her door.
"Bhai please.Main aapko baadmein bataungi.Please mujhe akela chod dijiye."she said from inside.
"Par Taani??Aisa kya hua hai??How can I leave you alone like this??"he asked her.
"Bhai please."she both stated and pleaded.
Swayam understood her tone.He decided to give her the time and space she was requesting.
"Okay.Just take care please.."he told her comfortingly and walked away to his own room,determined to find the reason behind her tears tomorrow.
Taani sat down on her bed,Rey's words echoing in her ears over and over.
"How could he take such a decision without even talking to me??It wasn't only him in the relationship!!"she said to herself.
But for some reason,she wasn't as angry with him as she would have to liked to be.She did not feel betrayed like she was supposed to. She thought over his words again.
"Main yeh nahi chahta tha ki tum mere liye itna kuch karo..aur apne liye..apne liye kuch bhi nahi. "
"I was scared kahi..kahi agar mujhe kuch hogaya toh tum kya karogi??Kaise jiyogi mere bina?? "
Taani wiped her tears standing up and began pacing her room.Their misunderstandings,him taking her for granted..she went over all of it.
A clarity began to seep into her thoughts.
At the Singhania mansion,
Rey sat on the floor,in his room,his eyes blood-red due to crying.He looked at his and Taani's frame beside him.He picked it up.
"Main tumhe khona nahi chahta..par galti bhi maine hi ki hai..tumhara koi bhi decision mujhe manzoor hai."he looked at her in the frame and said softly.
He shut his eyes trying to lessen the ache in his heart.With her thoughts,he fell into a fitful sleep.
With Taani,
Taani was looking at the pics in her Rey's corner.
Part of her adored them,part of her was filled with pain.She went over his words on the terrace once again.
"I was scared kahi..kahi agar mujhe kuch hogaya toh tum kya karogi??Kaise jiyogi mere bina?? "
Taani wiped her tears.A determination took over the pain.She now knew what to do.
She fell asleep,hoping tomorrow would bring with it a new beginning.
Next Morning,
Rey woke up to the sound of his doorbell ringing.He rubbed his eyes and looked at the clock.
It was only 7:00 AM.
"Iss samay kaun hosakta hai??"he thought getting up.
The doorbell was still ringing incessantly.
"Coming yaar."he muttered and went downstairs.
He opened the door,only to find the most unexpected person on the other side.
"Taani!!"he exclaimed wondering if he still asleep.
Taani glared at him and walked inside.
"No,I am not dreaming."he thought.
Walking in like this,was something only Taani and Sharon would do.And Sharon would definitely be enjoying her beauty sleep at this hour. 😆
He watched as she calmly poured herself a glass of water.Confused he walked toward her.
She finished drinking water and turned toward him.He was looking at her with a questioning look.
"Kya??"she asked him.
"Tum yaha..iss waqt??"he asked.
"Haan.Kyu nahi aa sakti??"she challenged.
He looked at her wide-eyed. After what had happened yesterday,he wasn't expecting THIS Taani.😆
"Ghurna bandh kijiye.Jaaiye brush karke,muh dhokar aaiye."she chided him.
Perplexed,he went off to do as told.
As he was wiping his face he wondered, "Taani itni subah yaha kya karne aayi hai??Krishnaji..."
He went downstairs and found her reading a magazine,standing beside the sofas.
"Taani."he said.
She looked up and placed the magazine back on the coffee table.
"Good.And good morning."she looked at his now normal eyes and fresh face and smiled.
He did not reply.She knew he was scared of what she would do after yesterday.
She took a deep breath.
"Rey..I have made a decision."she stated as normally as she could.
He returned a questioning stare,with a hint of fear in it.
"Rey..kal main gussa thi..hurt hua mujhe..par jab ghar jaakar socha toh..I realized ki aapka tareeka galat tha.Par aapki soch..aapki soch galat nahi thi."she fixed her soft gaze on him.
He was surprised at her words,but remained silent.
"Infact aisa koi soch hi nahi sakta.Aaj ke zamane mein jaha rishton ki aur pyaar ki koi kadr nahi hai..jaha agar ek ladki apne pati se zyada kamale toh ego clashes ke wajahse shaadi tut jaati hai..aapko meri career ki fikar hai.Meri future ki aur meri identity ki. Itna ki yeh jaan ne ke bawajood ki fake break-up karne se aap mujhe kho sakte ho,still you decided to go ahead with it.For whom??FOR ME."she said,a kind of reverence in her voice.
"Rey..you actually sacrificed your dance,your passion for me.Thode din ke liye hi sahi,that must have been hell for you."she said taking his hands in hers.
He looked at her,his eyes reflecting only pure love and..Hope.
"And this fake break-up..mujhse zyada aapko dard hota.Mujhse zyada aap tut jaate.Phir bhi aapko yeh sab kuch manzoor tha.Mere liye khud dard sehna aapko manzoor hai.Aisa pyaar...itna pyaar..kaise kar sakte ho Rey??"she questioned him.
Both Taani and Rey were in tears.
"No one..No one can ever love me like you do.Koi mujhse itna pyaar nahi kar sakta."she said looking into his eyes,hers reflecting respect and love.
"Par.."she trailed off.
Rey felt the euphoria of her words slipping away.
"Sirf pyaar kaafi nahi hota Rey."she said leaving his palms.
He looked at,the reality hitting him once again.He had hurt her.He had to face her decision.
"Aur bhi bohot kuch zaruri hota hai.Isliye I have taken this decision."she said.
He looked at her,urging her to reveal her decision.
"We need a break Rey.We have to take a break."she stated scanning his face for any understanding.
But all she found as expected was,shock.And pain.The pain of his fears coming true.
Rey stood frozen.Was his nightmare finally coming true??
Done!! So is it break-up??The same pain again??
