PART 88
Bharat drove straight onto the main highway road. He took almost a full turn and landed in front of a small house. A kind of house that a kid imagines to live in his/her childhood. Nicely decorated, away from civilisation, and eternal solace. It was evening time. Quite a few days of continuous driving had tired him. It was the first time he drove for so long.
He wasnt planning to spend a holiday. He was planning to stay there.
Miles away from home, he had fixes his residence for the rest of life, or so he thought.
Bharat got out of his car. The sun was setting in the horizon, and Bharat realised maybe living alone wasnt going to be so easy after all.
Though there were all facilities available, there wasnt a single soul in about a 50 metre radius. Bharat looked at his phone. The signal was poor.
Bharat took out his things from the car and opened the door of the house with his keys, which had apparently rusted. Bharat pushed and pulled and finally flung the door open. No one to greet him either.
Now, Bharat was not someone who had lived alone. It was always under and with someone. He missed each and every soul who meant something to him, but he had no option. Bharat didnt want to see his family like that anymore, because of him. He couldnt kill himself either, he didnt want to remain a pain to his loved ones. Such are the dilemmas of life.
Bharat placed his things on the table inside and looked around. A bare minimum place, and one could not even expect something else. For, it was his great grandfathers first house.
Mr. R. Suryavanshi had begun Ishvaku Companies from here, that very house. But it still carried a feeling of royalty. Bharat felt someone looking at him, but he knew no was there. He knew, it was his family.
He walked out and parked the car away. As he was walking back,
"Bharat."
He knew that womans voice so well that he didn't look around. He couldn't. His heart started beating faster and tears welled up.
"Why have you come here?"
"I had to come Bharat, Im not a coward like you."
Bharat turned around and faced her. She was standing in front of him. Maanvi.
She had been crying profusely as it was visible from her smeared face and red eyes. Her fist was clasped, and from what Bharat understood, she had come alone in another car. Maanvi had FOLLOWED him all this way.
"Why are you looking at me this way?" she asked. Her gaze, her voice pierced his soul.
Bharat looked down and hid his tears.
"I .. Im not.. "
Maanvi moved closer and Bharat looked up at her.
For the first time since their marriage, they looked deep into others souls trying to understand what the other thought about. What the other was going through.
Maanvis aura struck Bharat hard, while Bharats presence melt Maanvi internally.
"I called you a coward," said Maanvi, trying to emphasise on the words and to get a response.
"I know," he said, "And I am one."
Maanvi raised her hand to hit him, and Bharat looked away, his face still remaining in her reach. He actually reached for the slap.
She stopped midway. Bharat looked at her and saw her hand shaking.
"What happened, dont stop Maanvi . I deserve it."
Maanvi put her hand down and burst into tears. Seeing her cry, Bharat let his tears fall with a straight face.
She looked at him and said as she stooped for breath,
"You.. You really deserve it... Because..Becuase of you back home Maa has fallen unwell .. Because of you everyone is worried. .Becuase of you ram Bhaiyya.. "
"What happened to Ram Bhaiyya?"
"S..Siya Di.. Siya Di and Urmila have been kidnapped !"
Bharat moved back a few steps. He felt dizzy. He went straight inside the house and sat on the sofa. Looking up at the fan, he envisioned his brothers in distress. He saw them crying, and then he saw the cause as him.
Maanvi came and sat next to him. Bharat looked back down as his hands lay loosely to his side.
He couldnt grasp all of this. News was broken to him like, like a disaster.
He looked at Maanvi.
"Siya Di, Urmila, have been taken away..? I .. I .."
Maanvi clasped his arm and cried on his shoulder. Bharat gulped and gasped.
Maanvi spoke,
"I came to know just now, as I was coming behind you. 15 minutes after you left the house, I didnt feel you next to me and with directions from people I followed you. I tried to talk to you at the places you stopped but, I just couldnt. But now I had to Bharat. I had to."
Bharat wiped his face with his trembling hand. His eyes were bright open and wide and carried clear shock.
"Maanvi, but where were Ram Bhaiyya and Lakshman then?"
Maanvi wiped her tears and spoke,
"From what I.. I know Bharat, they were outside searching for Urmila, it was all a well planned conspiracy."
Bharat gulped and sighed.
"Thats why, thats why Maanvi I left home. I can't go back there now. Everytime I walk in through those gates I see only gloom and sadness and I see in all of your eyes that the reason is me. Had I not existed , Kraanti Maa would never have done something like this and .. Ram bhaiyya still would have been with us."
Maanvi got up and stood in front of him.
"This is why I call you a coward Bharat. Instead why couldnt you have stayed there and faced your problems? And who told you Bharat that you are responsible for all this? Bharat time and again I have told you that you are not responsible for any of this..And if you keep saying things like I will feel like I have failed. I couldn't get you out of your own thoughts... You want me to feel like that Bharat ?You really want to?"
"But then who is responsible Maanvi?" he said as he looked up at her.
"Bharat, always someone doesn't have to responsible for everything. One person can't take responsibility for what happens around another. We're not gods Bharat. And guess what, even Gods are not responsible for everything that happens around us."
Bharat stood up and took Maanvi's hands in his. He placed his forehead against hers, towering over her.
"Im so stupid, no Maanvi?"
She softened her voice.
"You are. And I dont want you to be. Please, Come back Bharat, come back."
"I can't Maanvi. Try to understand me too. I need to be alone Maanvi. Please. I need to get myself back together. "
"But what about us Bharat?" she said moving away. "What about me? Maa? Shatrughan? Shruti? Don't they need you? Bharat, can you tell me how many hours I have spent with you since our marriage. You can literally count them Bharat, when they actually are supposed to be endless. Do you not think of me Bharat?"
He moved closer to her again.
"Maanvi, every moment, every second every minute I think about you. About all of you. But I too need to get out of this guilt. I already broke Ram Bhaiyya's promise. And now Siya Bhabi ... I will help them Maanvi. I will help them from here. Don't worry, I won't hurt myself."
"Even if you think about that, you will see my dead face.."
"Maanvi !"
"Bharat!"
"What will I tell Maa?" she asked.
"I will talk with her," he said.
"She is unwell Bharat."
"But I will.."
They fell silent. Both realised how childish they were being.
"I can let you stay here Bharat, but only on one condition."
"What Maanvi?"
"That you will come back the day Ram Bhaiyya and the others come back too. And that you will keep in touch with us everyday."
"You have my word Maanvi. "
She moved closer and went into his embrace. Bharat kissed her on the forehead and hugged her tighter.
"Just a few more days Bharat."
"Just a few more days Maanvi."

Ram and Lakshman found themselves in a second class sleeper coach train to Udupi In Karnataka. From there, they were to use some local transport to go the coastal resort they were told to where they would find Sujit.
Ram looked around. It was the first time he had boarded a second class train. Everyone looked at him and lakshman, because it was their demeanour that stood out uncommonly. Even in the hot weather, they were compelled to wear a heavy beard and the local Manali woollen clothes.
He realised, that each person had a struggle in his or her life, and everyone was fighting against it. That inspired him to work harder and faster to reach Siya.
After almost a day, the train halted. Ram and Lakshman got down and went straight to the cabs. They boarded one and were on the road when suddenly, in the middle of an empty road, the car broke down.
"What happened Bhaiyya?" asked Ram to the driver.
"Sir, the car has broken down. And, there is no service centre around. Im so sorry, I can't continue further."
"Arre what do you mean the car has broken down?! Then how will we reach there?" yelled Lakshman.
"Lakshman, calm down." said Ram. "Its okay, just tell us where to go now, we'll walk."
" Sir, its a long way. I suggest you go to that hotel behind the tree, there you will find some transport. "
Ram paid him and they set off to where the driver had pointed.
It could only be called a hotel by the driver, for it was no more than a small room with a lady sitting at the gate, fanning herself.
As Ram and Lakshman moved ahead, they saw a bright gleam on the lady's face. As if she had seen a very close relative of hers after a long time.
She got up and slowly came in front of them.
"You want a room? please come, I have many.."
"No Ma'am, Im sorry, we dont need a room, we just need some transport to this place," he said showing her the card of the resort.
She was taken aback but her smile didnt fade. She made them sit on the cot outside.
"See children, if you need a room you can tell me, I will be happy to.."
"No Ma'am, its completely fine. We only need some transport. Do have any?"
"Yes sure, my caretaker will take you there. But before that.. "
She got up and took out a small box from and earthen chamber, which was a refrigerator for her.
It contained some sweets.
She brought it to Ram and Lakshman and said,
"Please have these. And keep this with you. You will need them on the path."
Ram took it, but Lakshman frowned. He whispered in Ram's ear,
"Bhaiyya, will it be safe?"
Ram nodded.
She said,
"Have one son, and tell me how it is."
Lakshman spoke up and said,
"Excuse me, we can have it later also. We will have it , dont worry."
She sat back on her seat.
She looked down and said,
"You know children, the moment I saw you. I was reminded of my son. He was as old was you only when.. When he left me. His father left us when he was young itself. I took care of him but, I guess my love for him was not enough. The last time before he left, I had made him sweets like these and given him. He took it but he never said that he wouldnt come back for more."
Ram gulped. As he tears welling up in the lady's eyes, he went up to her with the sweets and kneeled in front of her.
"Maa," he said. Lakshman too went and sat in front of her.
She looked at both of them with tears of joy. She cupped their faces in her hands and said,
"Did you call me Maa? "
"Yes. You lost one son, but now you have two," said Lakshman.
She cried her heart out. Ram calmed her down and said,
"Maa, won't you give us the sweets?"
She wiped her tears and took out two sweets from the box. She fed them to Ram and Lakshman.
Though it was nothing like what they were used to tasting, just her love made it feel heavenly to them.
Ram and Lakshman sat with her for a while and got up.
"Ok man, we must go now. But promise me, you will never cry again. Remember you have two sons of yours who will come back to you." said Ram.
"Sure son. I will wait for you. Now go with him," she added and pointed to her caretaker who was waiting for them with his cow-cart.
They touched her feet and said,
"Do wait for us Maa."
"This Shabri will always wait for you two."
"""""""""""""""""""
Ram and Lakshman sat in the cart and were on their bumpy ride for about an hour now.
"Bhaiyya, how far is the coast?" asked Lakshman.
"Just a little more." Thats what he had been saying since the last half and hour.
Ultimately, they came to a stop before a hill.
"Sir, we can't go above this. The cows won't be able to climb that high."
They got down and gave him some money, but he refused, saying that Shabri had told him not to do so.
They left him and started to climb the hill. It was a small one, but difficult with all the things they carried.
As they reached the top, Lakshman sat down.
"Bhaiyya, how will we ever reach Siya Bhabi and Urmila like this? We will be so late."
"Dont worry Lakshman, some way or the other we will find a fast path. This is only the perilous part, after that its going to go smooth. I.."
"Hello?!"
Ram and Lakshman turned around to see who had interrupted them at this place. But what they saw was something strange.
"Hello? Are you Ram?"
Ram and Lakshman looked at each other. The dhoti clad, tall man heavily bearded, KNEW THEM.
Ram and Lakshman looked at him and moved forward until they stood a few feet from each other.
"How.. How did you... "
"I know That you are Ram. And you are Lakshman."
Lakshman moved forward in an aggressive stance.
"How do you know? Who are you?"
He smiled.
" I am no one. I am just your friend. I believe you want to go to KishKindha Resort Coast?"
With each word of his, they were stumped.
"Tell me really, who are you?" asked Ram.
"First tell me Sir, you are Ram Suryavanshi right?"
Ram looked down. Now that the man knew everything about them, It would be stupid to lie.
"Yes, I am Ram Suryvanshi. "
Suddenly, the man's expression changed. From a questioning one to a subtle, soft and almost teary one.
To their surprise, he pulled off his beard.
"Officer!" both of them yelled.
The officer was crying. Tears of joy. The tall man stood quietly and folded his hands in front of them.
"Officer, tell me the truth, who are you?" asked Ram in a fast tone. He knew something was not right.
"Pawan. Pawan I am, sir."
