Are you sure you can't get in touch with the author? Have you asked the other writers who have rewritten the story? Maybe they might know.

I'm not too sure what the rules are regarding this matter as you just want to continue someone else's story.

Hopefully someone can help you with your query.

Then you should ask the moderator for it,because it's the matter of using someone else's work .
If the writer herself/himself gave you the right then it's OK .

Two other members have already addressed this but here are my two cents on it.

You have said the following:

  • The author is unknown
  • Other people have rewritten the story
  • You would like to continue it
If you would like to continue with the story from where it left off that should be no problem as long as you give due credit to the original writer for the premise, the characters and the setting that has already been established. You will merely be writing a fan-fiction of an already published story in some ways.

The key thing is to give credit even if the author is unknown. Provide a link to the original story and claim that the characters nor the initial premise of the story was yours, since it really wasn't.

However, if you would like to rewrite the story then the answer is NO. That will be filed under plagiarism and you would be punished severely. It doesn't matter if you give credit to the original writer. Unless you have explicit permission stating that you may rewrite their story, you cannot do this.

I hope this was clear to follow and removed any doubts that you may have had.

Hiya, another writing question. My point of view keeps switching. I know that's not something that ought to happen having read a blog on writing, but just wanted to know if it actually causes a reader trouble or not. I am trying to think on how to stop that happening.

If it's not made clear that the perspectives are switching, then yes. You run the risk of confusing the reader.

Generally, you stick with one. However, if your story benefits with multiple perspectives, then you may continue with it. Ultimately, it is up to you to decide how your story should be narrated without causing much confusion.

It's my defacto writing style and it does suit. Reading the blog made me feel like that was a bad thing to do in general.

If that's your writing style, then stick with it. As long as your readers are understanding the story, that's what matters.

That's the beauty of writing. There is no one fixed guideline of how you should go about it. You can experiment at any given time. :)

To be honest the more you read about writing, the worse you can feel about your skillls.
I was just reading something about bad writing and safe to say it did not leave me happy.
Writing is good for experiment but it's also highly stressful I find.

The wise thing to do is to use these tips as not a means of demeaning yourself but to empower. Use them as vital lessons that you may use to strengthen your writing even more.

Don't think of writing as a chore or a job. It will alter your mind into thinking it is one other thing that you must be get out of the way and you will more than likely not wish to do a good job on it.

Treat it as a passion. Something you genuinely enjoy doing to relieve yourself from stresses and wish to do as a pleasurable act. It will make so much difference. :)
