But all said and done Jen just because its a story we are judging her but i cannot tell you what my reaction would be if i were in her shoes,simply because i cant say how i would react at that particular situation. You can never predict sometimes. I am very close to both my daughters and they share everything with me and i try to understand them and have an open dialogue with them at all times but i worry for them all the same. So i cant say really :) Looking forward to the next part of the story :)

If I may ;
I think we parents and especially Indian parents are very sensitive to this matter. We are so much protective about our kids that we tend to cross the line. I am not sure how one can react to such situation. There will be a nasty scene if such thing happens in any house hold one will think. The trouble is we don't see wedding as something between two person. For us wedding is between families and a social thing thus the idea of caste, creed, religion, status, education comes as a barrier. In this case the idea of marrying ones daughter to some divorced person is even worst.

We as a parents at times forget that they are individuals and not the rain checks that we can use it at our leisure. In most of the household we will have this dispute. If mother is fine with such arrangements father will have an issue. If none of the parents have issues then there will be grand parents, extended families etc that comes in to play. The worst is for the Indian families staying outside India. We have to prove that despite living outside India we have not stopped being Indian. That we have raised our children with values that is Indian. Although people living in India may not follow those values we have to follow it diligently.

Shyami; it is a scary thing. I chose my life partner. Despite him being from same caste, same educational background; my parents still had a fit initially. They had the issue that they did not know the family. That they did not know how well will they keep me happy. That they thought that I will not be treated well in some unknown family. Yet they agreed reluctantly. It was after the fact that they found out that I was really happy that my inlaws were good people( as per their dictionary) they were happy and they really accepted my husband in a real sense.

So like any parents happiness of a child is a big thing now as you said earlier how can one say that one will be happy with one and not other that is just a test of pudding 😕

For aperson like Arnav I was well prepared to see them living together. To see them together as husband & wife, in such a fast pace...incredible! Lots of issues are still unresoved though.

Beautiful chapter Jenny !! Their love, longing was so well written. Only thing I didn't understand well was why they got married so suddenly, all alone without family ? I mean it was okay if she went with him to Srinagar. They could have gotten married after returning to US. Anyways... loved the update :)
I am so curious to know more about Anu...
