Bala and Vandu probably make collectively a joint take home of Rs.1 lakh I would think. A three bedroom apartment in Munirka probably costs upwards of 2 crores?, lets say he bought it over 12-15 years ago before he married Vandu or around the time he married Vandu with his Dad's savings. The EMI alone is probably, Rs.40-Rs.50,000 a month

DELHI IS EXPENSIVE. My parents are retired and they dont get out much, they spend between Rs.15,000-Rs.20,000 a month EASILY. Their home is paid off and they have great health insurance. My parents power bill is upwards of Rs.5000 a month 6 months a year

Its normal for HONEST people to run out of money by the 20th of the month. I strictly speaking of people that DONT cheat.

He feeds 5, mostly 6 on a routine basis, he drives a car to work, Petrol costs Rs.60? a litre On fuel alone they must be spending Rs.5000-7000 a month. The apartment in Munirka has 3 ACs... power bills in Delhi can kill you...

Its NOT easy to make ends meet

Honest people is what I was talking about n thats why I could not relate to the no money by 20th wala fact, though apart from the house emi I agree with all other expenses, so you might be right abt being really tight on budget by month end ... I am just very surprised with his selective favor-taking business... If II paysfor Shravan's tennis its fine, coz it means monthly expense.. But if she pays for baby's naming ceremony then its wrong... N also how he becomes shravan kumar, feels OK that II n Amma should keep cooking/cleaning at Munirka, but not extend monetary help coz this hurts his ego.

People cluttered around, cook going helter- shelter , tables and shamiana at the terrace, the homam kund at the center, priests chanting, thatha in a easy chair with vibhuti pattai, noisy mamis, the aroma of incense, food and flowers, nadaswaram at the bk ground ,
Adhu ennadhu, a tall stainless steel drum of filter coffee with cups stacked , not even that detail got missed, it's 70mm in my head as usual now .
This function is so significant for both the mother and the baby and sadly, the mother is so down in the absence of her sister , the father and grand parents all stressed.
How many times we see that in a home full of 100 people or odd , ironically not one to welcome people at the door. It will be so handy to hv relatives to take up small tasks like welcoming ppl at the door or guiding ppl to the terrace. May be nit intentional though, it's just that ppl are so busy catching up , gossiping as that's the time together they get these days. So such a casual description of Amma having to open the door was so realistic. This welcoming would hv been done by II, had she been there. Amma and Appa must feel as if their right and left hands chopped off. Atleast they have the well meaning janani Athai around for support.
She is already being missed and the function has just begun. Huge hole to fill, perhaps never will be filled.
So dude, crisp and shaven in appearance much to the wonderment of Amma and Appa.
Lasya, dressed to kill, Sam, tan and Ranjanji in tow... Lovely. Balan mandali mates of Amma ,the hard on hearing kamakshi Athai bk adding mirth and colour . Almost full presence of II's in-laws with the exception of Manny, but the lady who bound these families by marrying the dude glaringly absent.
And II must be distressed cursing herself now . When the dude goes to meet his wifey, the wifey is going to chew his ears off for details. Dude, be ready to exercise your vocal chords.
