The Bhalla Farm

"How is it going" he asked walking out of the office

Manya followed him

"U moved everything?" Manya smiled

"She does..." he arched his eyebrows to indicate his passing wife

II was in the master bedroom closet, picking out clothes

"It looks like a woman lives here" "Which is not a bad thing... trust me" Manya giggled as an afterthought

He wandered to the balcony... "are u doing OK?" he asked

"I dont know" Manny hissed

"Do u still talk to him?" R&B asked

"Nahi... well thats a lie, I do..." she mumbled

"Do u want to get together again?" he asked

"What are u? My Daddy?" Manny bristled

R&B was not offended... he shrugged casually...

"Dad's on my tail... dekho, Sam has two kids, Vandita has two, R&B is married now..." Manny whispered

As brother and sister leaned on the balcony and chatted

"And u are letting it affect you?" he muttered

I AM HERE NO?" Manny asked

"Did u actually quit your program?"

"No... I am leaving end of August.." Manny spoke in despair

"they wouldnt transfer the credits to DU?" he asked

"Kitni garmi hai yaha" Manny cursed, as if thats the only fly in the ointment
"U dont have to take buses" he was being sarcy now

"But I have to live here" Manny whined

"Really?" he rolled his eyes
"U dont want me living here?" Manny was hurt

"I did not say that"

They both were quiet

"hy did u come?" she turned to him

"So weve moved to me?" he chuckled

"U just show up whenever?" she sulked, grumpy

"Umm... Ive always done that havent I?"

"Ur wife doesnt live here any more" Manya was grumpier

"what do u mean?" he asked, trying not to be shocked

"U know... Chandigarh" Manny mumbled

He visibly relaxed

"Her Dad hates u and u and u dumped his daughter in 3 months"

"He told u that?" R&B asked silkily

"Its written all over his face dimpal..." Manny said all knowingly

He did give a damn what Mr Iyer thought of him... he didnt

Well he did... but he didnt care... he didnt want his wife anywhere near Mr Iyer for any longer than an hour

Rest? He didnt care...

Umm... ya...

"sorry I dont face read" he mumbled

"She doesnt want to go live in Paris?" Manny's childish anger, was explicit now...

"i dont know" he said carefully

"She married you knowing you love Paris, she better not change her mind"

It was SO MUCH EASIER to fight an "outsider" Yep, II was one... it was very convenient to pick on her,
better than shining the light on herself, facing Dad's questions and Sam's interrogation about her newly single status

"Huh" he grunted again

"U know something and dont want to say it?" Manny asked obssessively, protective about her dimpal

(Are u guys breaking up? If u are I am going to kill her. I dont even like her yet I dont want her hurting you. I dont like it that she married you, but I dont want her to leave u either😭)

"about what?" he asked confused

"I dont even see her much" she mumbled

"Do u want to?" he asked softly

"Umm... I mean we live in the same house" Manny displayed rare emotion, her need for attention

"She is gone all day I assume" he said softly

"she goes to Sam's" Manny jumped on him

"Well... she has Lasya" he said smugly

"So I shud have a baby now?" she punched her brother

"U could..." he laughed

"U are just the way u were before, quiet, reserved and minding your own biz" she declared waving a finger

"Whats with before and after?" he asked startled

"U know... u havent changed after the marriage" she said

They were quiet again

"I miss the old times dimpal" she said

He grunted...

"the two of us on the terrace... with the CD player, Sam and I "tanning" like we were on the beach reading under the umbrella

You would always somehow ruin it for us" she laughed

He actually sprayed sand over both one time... it stuck to their tanning oil and took forever to wash out

No nothing high tech, just dumped a pile of fine sand and turned a pedestal fan on his sisters

"When Dad and Mom picked Tan for Sam, you were home from CMU for the summer,
you "promised Tan a private date with Sam" and brought those... umm...hoo...umm.. lets say escorts..." Manya was laughing hysterically
When I brought Sam for their "date", Tan sat bettwen the escorts" Manya was uncontrollable

He chuckled... a half smile and then a full smile

"Tan lost half his hair that day" Manya gasped unable to stop herself

His wife showered, wore a orange sun dress braided her hair... peeked out the master balcony,

"Its already 11, lunch rehne dein?" she asked standing by the favorite spot near the curtain

He turned to look.. his eyes lit up... and he heard a PLUNK inside or SWOOSH?
His heart skipped a beat at the visual treat

They looked at each other as Manya checked her phone, when she realized no one was talking she turned to her bro

"Kya hua?"

"Naa varen" (I am leaving now) she mumbled

II lingered not wanting to go down...

"Nice dress II" Manya smiled

II nodded

"March mein liya" she didnt say Paris... she somehow couldnt name the location, for fear of being a gold digger that shops at paris

"Wowww!! Indian fashion scene has changed" Manya declared

"Dimpal... chal... I have to go meet that loser... attorney" she was grumpy

"Who?" he asked

"Umm u know... the divorce" manya was almost inaudible

II started stepping back unwilling to listen to Manya's private talk

Bro and sister hugged... Manya tucked her phone in her lounge pant pocket and nodded at
II wand walked through the massive living room (the Master bedroom, the living room both shared a balcony)

He aproached his wife, she stepped back stumbling into the folds of the three layer curtains, losing her balance

He heard her gasp as his lips landed on her bare shoulder, he fingered the yellow cord on her neck,
like guitar strings, stroking it, sending thrills down her back

He laced his arms under hers gathering her... her cool freshly showered body rubbing against his warm..
clad in overnight clothes... with the manly scent of "love making, sun, espresso and R&B"

He heard her moan... they were standing inside a curtain pod

He kissed her hungrily, when he let go

"I am going down to eat"

"U must," (Or I aint lettin u go) his tone implied

He watched her straighten her dress over her curves... it had cap sleeves and it fell a few inches below her knees

She turned and walked away, and turned back

"Woh" she began, he wiped off lipstick from his lip, and checked his thumb, he looked up from his thumb, as he leaned on the glass door jamb looking inside

"I was just kidding about Malcha Marg" she said

"What?" he said his eyebrows joining in confusion

"Umm... u know.. Shravu and I Skyped, Akka had made thenga burfi, I told him
I bagged everything and brought it home. He said nobody was at DII then, I told him thats not my home this is... so I brought it here"

He couldnt believe what she just said... his expression changes from confusion to curiosity to
fury as he listened to her speak and made the connection with Manny's joke from earlier

"I was kidding" she reiterated

She bend her head self consciously... as if she was done explaining why she stole the Bhalla farm

"Umm... uh" she mumbled and LEFT
