Part 4
"Hey Devi Maaiya. Raksha karna" Khushi let out a quick prayer as she walked through the revolving door of AR Design on her first day of work. She looked around at the posh interior of the lobby trying to recall which way she had to proceed to the elevator bank when a 5'11" super thin model brushed pass her and snorted "This isn't your family garden look before you leap" and she strutted to the elevator bank.
Khushi was about to follow her but decided she would wait it out and take the next elevator. She didn't want to face any confrontation on her first day.
She slowly made it to the elevator and up to the 10th floor and stood at the rich oak desk which encased a petite 20 something year old receptionist.
"Hi I am Khushi Gupta. I am the new junior designer" she said to her as she adjusted her bag on her left shoulder.
The tiny little women brushed some wayward bangs away from her forehead and looked up at Khushi and smiled. She told Khushi to take a seat next to her desk which was designated as a waiting area.
She then went on to pick up her desk phone and let someone know that Khushi was waiting in the receptionist area.
In no time a average built guy in his late twenties came around the corner and stopped in from of where Khushi was sitting. "Hi I am Roy Sachdev. Senior Designer and your immediate supervisor. Welcome to AR Designs" while he extended his right hand for Khushi to shake.
"Hi I am Khushi" she replied with completing the handshake with a smirk.
Roy then showed her the way through a set a double door to a long passage that housed many many door. He asked her to proceed to another set of double door which were labeled 'Studio B'.
"This is our no mans-land." He said after he gave Khushi a few minutes to look around. He then went on to show her desk space which consists of three sided cubical enclose with shoulder height glass paneling. She was then introduced to her neighbors Div (to the right of her), Malvika (in front of Div) and Max (in front of her). This was the Junior Designers of Studio B.
There were same set of setup for the Senior designer and a set of glass offices for the Executive Designer.
Khushi was then led back to her cubical which was now occupied with a guy for IT who would help her setup her devices and then lead her to human resources for the rest of the on-boarding process.
"BTW Khushi, I know your CV matches ASRs' but there is no need to dress in his executive manner we are only designers" he as he let out a chuckle and turned to go back to his cubical.
Khushi just stood there looking down at her clothing. Which consists of a black plant suit with a white shirt. She brushed aside her hair and then focused on what the guy from IT was saying.
"Don't mind that Sadhu. He is probably just jealous of your great start." he said and then went on to introducing himself as Nikhel Khurrana, NK for short. In no time he had her MacAir up and running and then helped her sync her iPhone to the AR email portal so that her emails were also diverted to her phone. Once everything was set he showed her where the HR office was.
She was again was left in another waiting area for one of the Human Resources official to meet her and complete her on-boarding process.
Few minutes later there was man who passing by that area who stopped where he was going and came to Khushi and said "Hi Aman Mehra. You are the new hire. Right?"
"Hi I am Khushi Gupta" she said as stood up in front of Aman.
"Hummm. You look so familiar." He tried to rake his brain but at the same time the HR official showed up and then he had to make way for her to go with the official.
After her on-boarding as she was heading back to her workspace she realized that she had not an ounce of coffee or any food in her since last night. She made way to the pantry close to her and went about making a cup of coffee.
Khushi started humming as she mixed sugar in he freshly brewed coffee when the person next to her cleared his throat. Khushi tilted her head to see what they wanted.
There stood Arnav Singh Riazada in all his 6'2" glory decked up in his trademark black Armani Suit. "How's the first day Gupta?"
"So far so good Sir, coffee?" she motioned him to take her coffee. "Thanks! But Sir? Gupta your not in grad school anymore. Call me ASR like the rest of the staff"
"Sorry Si...I mean Arnavji. I don't think I could ever call you ASR."
He walked out of the pantry but leaned back in after his took a sip from his coffee and winked while saying "Next time chini kum"
