I really don't know what do you mean by dumb. Do you want Khushi to sit outside her house and weep? Or do you want her to get a job and stand on her own feet? To get a job, she hasn't finished her studies yet. So what does she do next? If you ask me, going back to RM is teh most sensible decision she can make, at the moment. If she holds on to her "self-respect" and decides she will not go to Shantivan, she will have to keep starving. Is that sensible? Now you ought to decide what is dumb.
Again, Khushi is raised in such an atmosphere where she is fed with "values" like "Your husband is your everything" And trust me when I say this, even today, in our own country, we have millions of women being subjected to domestic violence and marital rape, yet do not say a word since they fear about society disowning them. And her Amma-Bauji were not from a modern background to tell her to stand up for herself. In certain villages, child marriages still exist even if it is a social evil. They have their own beliefs about it, and unless the whole village is empowered, the thinking will not change. Hell, even amidst educated families, there are many men who like to "rule" over the women, and most women bend because (a) It is believed to be a man's world (b) Women are more emotional and will do their level best to not break relationships, unlike men. (c) Society has always looked down upon women and has made the man sit on a pedestal. And in this story, even if i wish to blame Amma for putting such thoughts into Khushi's head, I will not do so, because those may have been the very same values passed on to her by her mother. Now, Khushi will learn a different lesson and may pass on her experience to her child as the baby grows.
I'm sorry if I sounded harsh, and trust me it wasn't my intention. But it seems like most of us are living in a bubble where no one even wants to acknowledge the problems our society is going through. I remember someone inboxing me and telling me that I am "insensitive" to include such parts in the story where Khushi is being tortured mentally and physically. I've just one thing to say to such folks- Unless we talk about the problem, unless we realise the situation, unless we empathise with the victims, unless we step in their shoes and look at things form their point of view, no one is ever going to come up with any solution.
