Chapter 4
Delhi Headquarters
Major General Gaur's office
MG: Thank you for all your work Captain Ahluwalia. Major Chauhan is going to lead a task force to follow up on your leads. The force will include Lt. Yuvraj Sahni and a few other members of his unit.
Naina: And me?
Abhimanyu: I am sorry Naina. You are too close to his.
Naina looked at Abhi incredulously.
Naina: Major Chauhan I think time and again I have demonstrated that I can keep my personal life separate from my professional and I don't like my skills being questioned.
Abhimanyu: Naina please..
Naina ignored Abhi and turned to Major General Gaur.
Naina: Sir I have a background in intelligence and I have relevant local context. I will only be an asset to the mission, not a liability.
MG: Major Chauhan, a moment please.
MG and Abhi stepped into his inner room.
MG: Major I think Naina is right.
Abhi: Sir I have no doubt on her capabilities. But when it comes to Rajveer, she will go to any extent, putting her own life on the line without a thought,
MG: And as her superior it's your responsibility to harness this energy. I have decided Major. Captain Naina will be accompanying you.
Abhi and Naina made their way back to Poonch. Naina gave him a royal ignore throughout.
Abhi: Naina we have to work on this mission together. Ignoring me isn;t really an option.
Naina: You are again doubting my professional capabilities Major Chauhan?
Abhi: Naina, stop calling me Major Chauhan. I have no doubt on your bailities. But I also have no doubt on the intensity of your love for Rajveer. Naina, you do realize this could all be a bluff. The chances of Raj being alive are next to nil.
Naina: And do you know how much better that is than the certainty that he is dead? Abhi I finally feel alive after all these years. I don't care if it's all a bluff. I just want to allow myself to be hopeful again, to be alive again
Naina and Abhi reached Poonch. Lt Sahni had some good news for them. His sources had found the location of the hideout that Captain Dhawan had been operating out off. It was in the middle of think forests and Lt Sahni's men had begun patrolling that area.
The three of them left to join the patrol. A few hours into the patrol they spotted a man slumped on the ground leaning against a tree. Naina's heart skipped a beat. Could this be Rajveer Sir?
Abhi approached the man cautiously.
Abhi: Drop your weapons and raise your hands in the air.
The man weekly raised his hands but his face was overcome with joy on seeing the army patrol. Naina approached hesitantly. She was disappointed to see that it wasn't Rajveer
Man: Captain Amar Singh.. I am.. captain amar singh
Abhi remembered that Captain Amar Singh was a highly decorated officer and had been declared "Missing-in-action" 6 years back.
Captain Amar turned to Naina and looked at her keenly
Amar; And you must be Naina. Raj spoke about you all the time.
Seeing Naina's shocked face he continued
Amar: Yes Naina, Rajveer's alive. But we need to act quickly to ensure that he stays alive. After Dhawan's arrest the entire group was in a state of panic. Exploiting the panic Raj and I decided to escape. I managed to escape but Raj was caught by them.
They heard the sound of gunshots. The soldiers helped Captain Amar to the ground.
Abhi: Soldiers you need to get Captain Amar to safety. NAINA, Yuvraj and I will head to the hideout.
Soldier: But sir, you need a larger unit to raid the hideout.
Abhi: We don't have am option soldeor. I have radioed for a backup. But if they caught him escaping, Raj doesn't haev too much time.
Naina had been silent all this while.
Naina: Nothing will happen to him. Let's go Sir.
They made their way stealthily to the hideout. Naina looked inside from a crack to spot a man lying on the ground being mercilessly beaten. The man looked weak, almost emaciated. He had overgrown hair and an overgrown beard. His face was had lines. But then she caught a glimpse of his eyes. And naina knew it was Rajveer. Her Rajveer Sir. Naina almost gasped on seeing Rajveer alive after so many years.
Abhi and Yuvraj had taken positions on other ends of the building. Abhi was concerned for Naina. He knew she wouldn't be able to control herself for much longer.
Naina was caught in a conflict. She knew that if she shot anyone right now she would reveal herself and potentially jeopardize the entire rescue man,
Naina (thinks): But if I don't do anything, they'll beat him to death. No! that can't happen. I am too close..
She raised her pistol, closed her eyes and recalled everything that Rajveer had taught her about getting her aim correct. She opened her eyes and fired. The bullet pierced Shera's heart who slumped to the ground next to Rajveer.
Rajveer looked up weekly. Physically he had no strngeth left but his heart told him that Naina was around. Naina continued hiding and firing at the people inside. She managed to kill 3 more people before Chaudhary spotted her and yanked her out of her hiding spot.
Rajveer looked at Naina. And his eyes began twinkling. His body was week and close to giving up. But seeing nAINA he felt the life come back into his body.
Chaudhary fired at Naina's hand and as the bullet pierced her shoulder the pistol dropped to her hand.
In all these years, his body had become numb to the pain of getting shory. but seeing Naina get shot he felt an actual physical pain.
Chaudhary and his men got hold of Naina. They pushed her to the ground right in front of Rajveer, but out his reach.
Chaudhary: You came? Good, you couldn't live together but today you will die together. But let's have some fun before that.
Today for the first time I heard Rajveer Singh Shekhawat groan, when his lady love was shot. Let's see how you'll withstand her being tortured/
He proceeded to tie Naina's hands and legs and kick her. Rajveer had tears brimming from his eyes. He suddenly felt a surge of strength in his body and he managed to fling his body on top of Naina;s trying to protect her from the blows. Their eyes met and as always spoke volumes to one another.
Chaudhary: What a love story! He is as good as dead.But he still wants to protect her.
Good you can die in each other's arms.
Abhi: Not so soon Chaudhary!
Abhi came in with the unit and managed to kill Chaudhary;s men before capturing him.
Naina tried getting up. Yuvraj untied her hannds and legs. But Rajveer didn't move. He was lying slumped on her. His eyes were closed.
Yuvraj proceeded to check his pulse
Y: I can't get a pulse.. I am not sure if he is alive.
Naina: RAJVEER!!!!!!
