Chapter 10 - Conclude

After dinner Hariprakash had helped Khushi in the kitchen so things were wrapped up quite quickly. As she walked into the lounge she saw no signs of any of the family.

Meanwhile in ASR and Khushi's room..

Bhai .. there's something we've been meaning to tell for a few days now but just struggled to find the right time."We're having a baby bhai, aap bade papa bane wale hai" ("You're about to be an uncle. ")

Arnavs eyes lit up after the initial surprise he looked towards Payal for confirmation who nodded her head and stepped forward a little so she could reach to touch Arnavs feet. He was quick to catch her and watched with a smile at the news as she explained. Earlier today .. I was wanting to do those rituals properly I wanted to ask for your blessings properly but Aakash was worried I'd strain myself.

Putting the palm of his hand over head Arnav smiled, "My blessings are always with you both and Aakash is right.'

A atmosphere of celebration Aakaash hugs his brother finally relieved to have shared the news but has one important thing he knew his brother would understand.

"Bhai.. ham khushi bhabhi ko bhi bata chahte hai lekin (we wanted to share the news with Khushi bhabhi too but )after thing she's been trough we weren't sure if she .. -

Arnav appreciated and understood the concern for Khushi but before he could respond to that concern he noticed Khushi just outside the room having overheard the conversation by the look in her eyes after which she walked away.

Khushi wanted to be alone, she didn't give thought to where all she knew is she needed a couple of moments to herself. She walked into the lounge didn't bother to switch on the lights. The little light coming from the hall way was enough for her. She took a seat on the spine of the sofa and her eyes wondered amongst the darkness till they caught sight of Arnav's laptop at the coffee table amongst his paper work. It was usual working spot, a few mugs of coffee lots of bits of paper and now a couple of Aditis soft toys too. That particular spot and todays events bought to mind only one vivid memory for Khushi.

Flashback:

"Hame aapse kuch baat karni hai.." She finally mustered the courage to start the conversation. She watched him reply typing at his laptop and looking up towards the end.

"I gathered you've bought me 4 cups of coffee and been in and out of this room a dozen times in the last hour, what is it?"

He waited with an eyebrow raised and watched Khushi walk up to the sofa and take a seat on the opposing side. What ever it was she was reluctant to say it. She twiddled her fingers and scattered eyes a lot more than she normally did and when she did speak it wasn't all that clear. "Aap papa bane wale hai.." (You're about to be a father)

"What ???!" If she had said what the thought she had then why didn't she say it louder for him to hear properly?

"Say that again.." He spoke in his deep and authoritative tone. Khushi couldn't she was too embarrassed "Say it!" when she didn't he took out the complexity and made it dead straight forward.

"You're pregnant?" His eyes looked so eager but she would have known for she didn't look up at him.

"Ji woh aaj subha pata chala lekin I wasn't sure how to tell you" (I found out this morning but ..)

The glow in Arnav Singh Raizadas eyes and the happiness on his face was immeasurable. He picked Khushi up in no time..

You've given me the best news I've had In a long time Khushi..!! all she remembered those eyes of his and that smile. She had never seen him smile that way.

End of Flashback

The thought put a smile on her face even today as her eyes looked at the staircase the way Arnav had carried her up that night to their room, his smile his laughter, but the joy was only for a moment because that was a long time ago and the ending wasn't a happy one.

Khushi's eyes lingered on the staircase recalling the past when she felt a pair of hands cup each of her shoulder blades and Arnavs face hover over her right shoulder, his lips kissing the crux of her neck. His aftershave lingering and the ruffle of his beard touching the surface of her skin.

She welcomed his presence and took hold of his hands as he stood perched over her back.

"I'm happy for them I just.."

-- "I know.." he spoke into her neck reassuringly.

...

A couple of weeks later..

Khushi balanced the phone against her ear and shoulder as she spoke to Aakash over the phone whilst she carried Arnav's coffee into their bedroom. The conversation was coming to an end as she entered their room.

"They're fine..." she said as she dropped the phone and handed Arnav his coffee with a smile for Aditi was now snuggled up on her fathers lap whilst he was sat there amongst colouring crayons, paper and soft toys.

and you.. He asked with comforting eyes as he took the steamy mug of coffee from her and she settled to sit on the bed beside him.

"Ham teekh hai Arnavji ab koi dard nahin. -"there's very little pain now if any.."

Arnav was looking at a picture his baby daughter had painted or scribbled at least in thought.. "it's the flowers" Khushi pointed out as she looked over his shoulder a little. So it was, Aditi had used the colour pink and tried to draw the roses that were so familiar now. The ones that Arnav bought Khushi everyday. They both smiled for a second but Khushi could see that he was thinking about something whilst looking at that picture.

"kya soch rahe hai..?' she said as she put her head against his shoulder so she too good take a good look at first piece of artwork their daughter had created. He said exactly what came to mind whilst and Khushi could tell he meant every word.

I've painted your life in so many colours of compulsion ..."

Compulsion to be my wife..

Compulsion to serve me ..

Compulsion to look after my family ..

Compulsion to bare me a child...

His thoughts were exhausting him, Khushi could see an instant sense of regret on Arnav's face for the past but it wasn't all bad.

" pyaar karne ke liyey aap ne majboor nahin kiya ..--- You never forced me to fall in love with you ..that just happened Arnavji..all else that followed was out of love not of compulsion & look where we are now...I've never been happier." It was almost as if he looked towards her to see whether her eyes said the same thing as her words did and there was nothing more comforting than to see happiness as well as love in her eyes.
