Just last week I was in Chandni Chowk doing some wedding shopping and you won't
believe it ! I had Dahi Bhalle at Tiwari's ! They are the most scrumptious dahi bhalla's that
I have ever had ...

So finally the mystery of how Khushi happened to be at Tiwarii and sons is solved ...
wonder why the shop was left to Khushis mother ? perhaps Mahesh had a romantic
interest in Garima and she happened to be married to Gupta !

Something untoward seems to have happened between A and K in college to bring
this gap between them ...

Waiting to read more ...

Ok, I'm back.
This chapter was interesting in that it had almost no actual 'action' but a lot of interesting history.

Why did Mahesh Tewari leave his shop to Garima Gupta? Why have I never heard of Bedmi Puri and Nagori Halwa? Where is Shyam if there is a random child not-calling Khushi 'Bua'? Why does Khushi go to college-- to finish up a degree she had to quit midway or to teach or just to study further? (I'd add 'just to chill' but she doesn't seem the vella sort.)

Poonam Raizada is so cool. And f**king intimidating. I'd be terrified of her if I knew her in real life.
So I see Hari Prakash is to function as her trusted spy to keep tabs on her kooky kids.

Like Asma said, I like Payal more than Lavanya. Payal, in her blunt tactlessness and blind privilege is more honest than Lavanya's complex-ridden sympathy. Of course, I don't have Lavanya's full story yet, so I ought perhaps to reserve judgement.
OMG. Is Lavanya marrying the foreign-return Aman? (I don't know why this occurred to me-- probably too much fanfiction that has made Lavanya-Aman near fanon.)

Said it before and going to say it again-- Akash is a cutie. I rarely like Akash, but i do here.

And while Khushi is an enigma for sure, so is Arnav. I can't really put my finger on what he's really like or what makes him tick. I can say with some amount of certainty that he's a nice guy in that he not only feels guilty about whatever he did to Khushi before but also in that he feels like he's cornering her unfairly. I wish more men in fiction thought about their actions like that.

And how chill is Khushi? I have been getting this feeling for a while that she is better-adjusted than the rest of this crazy lot, but I also agree with Stripe and SS88 (I think) in that she is hiding a lot of hurt that she has just more or less successfully pushed away.

I love this shop. Like, I know it's the title and so must be an important place, but just generally. It seems like it has so much potential for action and conversation-- which of course, is entirely due to your skillful writing.

Love, as always.

About Bedmi-Nagori history, Epic had recently enlightened me. The mental images were happily flashing by as I was reading.

I know an almost- Poonam Raizada in real life. 'F**king intimidating' is the right word. In my head she has this all-knowing air and a very effective stare which makes people shake in their boots and stutter.

Would I prefer Payal's brand of honesty to Lavanya's dubious, moody friendliness? I don't know, really. Probably not. Something tells me that Lavanya (for reasons of her own) might once have felt as out of place in the rich snooty corridors of New Horizons as Khushi did, and that she had worked hard to gain her foothold there. A place which was threatened by Khushi's sporting achievements. Hence the friendliness born out of having been in the same place once, and the resentment of watching the newbie take it all away. Their college days might have had similar dynamics, with sports being replaced by something else, I'm assuming. So intriguing.

Khushi seems very poised to me. Too poised, in fact. Whatever happened with Arnav and Lavanya clearly affected her, but I doubt she ever gave herself a chance to talk it out with someone. She does come across as someone who prefers to find a corner, cry it out, and then move on with life. That's closure to her. But is it, really?

Arnav's self-awareness is his best quality. And rare, for a male character in fan-fiction, I agree. I do think he has this rebellious streak in him though. It's a lot less obvious than Anjali's, but it shows in his work, in his fondness for his brother-in-law, and now, in this itch to get a reaction out of Khushi, which he certainly knows Payal won't approve of.

Tewari & Sons seems just like the sort of place where people would come for a quick breakfast and end up spending hours chatting over savouries and chai. It's already becoming a place for re-unions. So much potential.

Oho. I am clearly falling behind on my tv-watching. Must correct ASAP.

About Lavanya, I get what you're saying. Which is why I want to hold judgement back for a little bit. But either way, the reason I say I prefer Payal to Lavanya is that Payal is the more steadfast of the two. This blowing-hot-blowing-cold business (even if borne out of insecurity) is far more hurtful than Payal's steady dislike that you can almost count on. In fact, Khushi probably doesn't give two hoots about what Payal thinks since she KNOWS how Payal feels. Lavanya, on the other hand, builds up, and then shatters. Far more possibility for heartbreak.

Completely agree about Khushi AND Arnav. Nobody is THAT strong and unaffected all the time. And as we've seen in the past, she does care. She's just learned to hide it well. Now to see what tears the walls down.
And even Arnav's little won't-run-the-family-bijness-will-do-my-own-thang smacks of rebellion. Arnav, as a character, may have evolved the most. He understands and acknowledges his faults and instead of sticking to 'Kya karoon, main aisa hi hoon' he DOES something about them. Forget fanfic characters, REAL people could take a leaf outta his book.
He's pragmatic too, but not AS pragmatic as Payal. In fact, I think this older Arnav may even have a closet streak of romanticism. A more mellowed world-view as a product of his growing self-awareness. So he roots for Jhalli and Joon. So he eats Dahi Bhalle. So he defends his fiance. And so his fascination with the one whom he may have once hurt.

CB, I get what you're saying about Payal, and in relationship-terms, it's true. Lavanya's insecurity, though, makes her a lot less predictable and interesting than Payal.
I don't think she's marrying Aman either. :-D She seems too detached from the school-clique.

It's interesting that the past is from Khushi's pov and the present mostly from Arnav's. I don't know what it is going to be like in the later Notes, but I just realised we know almost nothing about the Khushi in present other than the bare facts and what Arnav himself learns about her. And we watch him getting more and more intrigued by this mystery of hers, her unpredictable reactions, and as he wants to know more, so do we. Instant connect. Maybe that's the reason we think he has evolved the most? It's certainly great narrative technique.
And am I the only one wondering about this non-relationship between Arnav and Akash? NK is a close associate, but what about the quieter, less embarrassing cousin? I sniff a story there.

Oh, just rain on all my parades, why don't you.
Aman+Lavanya hamesha, I don't care what you say.

That is true. Maybe we think Arnav has evolved most because we connect most with him. His present, at least (although I think I connect just a little bit to his past too).
Absolutely. Bring out this dishy Akash (who is an endangered species), I say.
It is clear that Arnav and Akash were never friends even in school. They didn't hang out together then and they don't cross paths now. In fact, unless YB is holding out on us, I don't think Akash has been invited to this pooja even!
Or maybe he has and Anjali doesn't expect him to come.
Akash, who is friends with the moody Lavanya and has kept in touch with the reticent Khushi, doesn't seem to talk to his own cousin? Definite dal mein kaala.
Also note how Poonam Raizada doesn't even consider Akash as one of her own, a potential heir to run the business, despite him living with them for a good part of his life and being related to them. I mean, yes, he's not offspring, but he's still family. And family who is close enough to live with them.
Maybe it's the class angle picking up again. Maybe there's bad blood there. Or maybe Akash is too much of a proletariat to ever really get along with the kinda diva-ish Raizadas.

Now...That was a great update...
Finally Arnav and Khushi talked..
But, what is Arnav looking for and what does he want to achieve..? Does he want frienship ..?
I guess he should decide it for himself before he proceeds further.. by the way..how is he planning to continue meeting Khushi..?
I am surprised that Payal doesn't have full hearted approval from any of Raizada's..except his dad and he most probably is happy with the political connection..But payal is one person who has managed not to change in either her thoughts opinions or beliefs. She is still haste at forming opinions about people, more into class and appearances..
Now Lavanya is another interesting character..Looks like she hasn't changed much too..
She was upset with Khushi in school when she lost to her the chance of competing in Nationals but patched up when Khushi returned medal less from Nationals..and not she is glad she spoke to Khushi as she seems " stuck " in Chandini Chowk...Wonder why it mattered to her..?
Poonam Raizada is very dignified and respectful Lady.. I like her very much... Will she be able to guess the reason for Anjali's pooja...and ARnav's reason for getting LADDOO from Chandini Chowk..?
wonder what her reaction would be..?
Looks like only Akash is in contact with Khushi..

Lovely update. Will we get to know more about this "unjaana unkaha ehsaas" between Tewari jr and Garima Gupta? Poonam Raizada seems to be quite shrewd. She's already suspicious when she hasn't even seen the smoke!

So Khushi is in touch with Akaash Malik. And he such a nice friend trying to get Lavanya and Khushi to reconcile. Eagerly waiting for their upcoming meeting. Who's Lavanya marrying?
Loved Arnav khushi's convo. Khushi seemed so honest and straightforward. Bechare ne Dahi Bhalla challenge accept kar liya to show khushi that he has changed? Wonder what else is he willing to do to make Khushi accept him as a friend.

Going by the pattern, the next chapter would be notes from the past.. Right? Can't wait to know more of their college days.

Don't know how Akash and Arnav are cousins, but NK calls Poonam Raizada chachi. Which means that NK is a Raizada too. Of course nobody is going to hand over the reigns of the Raizada empire to NK - in fanfic or otherwise! 😛
And interesting discussion b/w you & Stripepurple on La vs Payal. I do think that Payal has been relatively straightforward because she has never seen Khushi, or for that matter anyone, as a threat.
I kind of ship La-Aman too 😆 Since La is not marrying Arnav, Akash or NK, there is a possibility of the groom being Aman. Or Shyam. Plot twist! But she does seem disconnected from the school gang, so I am not sure.

While I was reading this I realised that in the world of this privileged bratpack, Payal is very much the queen bee -- I mean she is way ahead of Arnav Singh Raizada too. She is obviously rich, is politically connected, is beautiful, is financially independent, leads an interesting life. Basically her life is perfect. Unlike in the original show, where La had to be neutralised to be turned into a "good wife" material Payal would never find herself in that position. No handsome, rich man with the brownest of eyes would motivate Payal to do that. And that makes me happy. By the end of this story I do hope that there is character growth for her, but hopefully it won't be some kind of patriarchal correction 😆
Okay, coming to Khushi, just a little more insight into present day Khushi and I think you gave us a hint on her coping mechanism, very Scarlet O'Haraish - I will think about this tomorrow. Don't think it is particularly healthy, but then again, we all have to find our ways of coping with sh*t that life throws our way and god knows Khushi has had a ton of problems. I think I see why she refused to recognise Arnav. This is based on the Arnav she knew from school/ college who would never bother someone who was indifferent to him. She had hoped it would work, but this new Arnav is different and Khushi is going to discover to some horror and eventual joy (one hopes) that she won't be able to wish him away that easily.

I like this Arnav, he is relatable, in the sense that he does want to be a better person and yet seems completely at ease with who he is. There was this interesting moment between Arnav and Khushi in one of your notes from the past where A/K are going for that event in Hyderabad. The older boys were harassing Khushi and Arnav suggests that they climb up to the top berth. I think you wrote something about how Khushi was almost disappointed that Arnav didn't heroically save her chastity. But the fact is, he did solve the problem at hand. That is the Arnav in this story, very aware of things and all his actions are rather cerebral. I don't think he has had that grand romantic moment epiphany that prompts him to chase Khushi. He is still scratching the dosti wallah surface.

Can't wait to read the notes from the past. They are absolutely my favourite part of the story. Khushi and Arnav get to interact minus the New-Ons junta that should be interesting.
