I sat in my wedding gown in the rains, the rain water splashing on me, still looking at the decorated chapel where we were supposed to get married. But Castle never turned up. I waited for this day, since the day I gave into my feelings and admitted that I loved the heck of a writer, who joined my team, so I could give him inspiration for the detective novel he was writing, Nikki Heat. It was all over. I had made a mistake, to fall in love with a man and commit myself to him.

Ryan, Esposito, Martha and Alexis were seeing me breaking down, but no one came next to me to console me. Probably they didn't know what to say. It was a shock for all of us, including his family.

The man I loved, I gave myself to him, loved him, told him my deepest secrets, and had not arrived for our wedding. I will never forgive you Castle. You and I are forever over.

It had been roughly three months, I was back at the Precinct, working around and finding killers and putting them behind the bars, along with Ryan and Espo and my best friend Lanie.

I had moved in with Lanie, it was the best thing she thought would bring me back from my disturbed life and help me be sane again.

Everything had changed, Ryan and Espo and I had forgotten what it was to have fun in the Precinct, Captain Gates was more civilized, and the dead bodies never told me anything, it was hard getting back to normal life, after I was ditched at the altar.

I missed Castle getting my morning coffee, I missed the late night cheesy burgers at Remy's and I missed him. His stupid ways of cheering me, his mere presence made me vulnerable. But I had taken enough. I had to get back to me being Detective Kate, not Castle's bride.

I threw all his cards, his gifts, his letters, everything. I burnt everything. Yes, he wrote me letters in this era. He said it made more sense; it was still the best method to convey his feelings as my lover.

I was back to my normal self; I was cracking cases and had the highest case closure rate. I was happy and put everything behind me, and was moving on in life.

Castle's family was equally baffled by Castle's ways and had no clue where he was. It was because of Martha and Alexis that I was able to get over Castle.

And one fine day, I saw Castle in the Precinct, sitting at his usual seat, next to my table. He had bought coffee, for me. I knew it but I was so let down by him, I was not going to forgive him. But I mustered courage and went to talk to Rick, my Rick. I had decided to call him Rick after we get married.

He casually swirled me and handed me the cup of coffee. And made me sit. He squeezed my hands and entwined our fingers. He looked into my eyes, and he understood that I wanted answers for his disappearance and his leaving the altar.

He kneeled down in front of me, his hand firmly clasped in mine, he spoke.

Castle: "Do you remember the promise I gave you before our wedding?"

I nodded and asked him to continue,

"Kate, I promised that I would always keep you safe, and your ailing father also expected me to do the same. I had promised myself that I would always keep you here, safe." He said pointing towards his heart.

"For that it was important that I find the sniper who shot you and who hired him. And for that I had to go undercover, if I would have let you know, you would never allow me. I had to do it, for you and our future together." I was overwhelmed, but she was still angry and mad at him.

He made me get up; made me look at the cell, Senator Bracken, was in handcuffs. Castle spoke again; it was he who setup the sniper and also is responsible for your mother's murder. I had to go out and get him Kate. It was important for you to always find who shot your mother, it was the very reason you joined the department, and I now being your soulmate, it was my duty to protect you, put your mother's killers behind the bars, it was your dream always. And I just did that. I knew that though you promised me that you would stop thinking about that, you couldn't. It was in your conscious. So before I completely make you mine, I wanted to let go of the past.

As soon as he was over, I hugged him tight, really tight and she would not let him go. He separated from her and in full honor, went on his knees, and proposed to me in front of the entire staff.

Castle: "Will you do the honor and make me the luckiest man alive by marrying me?" "Will you give me a second chance? I promise to never leave you. I promise to hold your hand and lead you out of the darkness, I promise to be your strength when you fight the world. I promise I will not let you face the battles that lie ahead of us, I promise that we will win this war. It is our war and we have to win. I need you besides me Kate. Please give me another chance. I want to have babies with you and grow old with you. All I am asking is another chance to make things right."

All I could do was, give my hand in his and kiss him as the others cheered for this beautiful couple.

Finally I spoke, "What about proposing in the helicopter, what about doing it over a balloon?" she chided as she kissed him again.

Later everyone congratulated the lovely couple.

And seeing him like this, I had decided to give him another chance, as I always give people whom I love. I decided to give our Love another Chance. It was another chance for Richard and Kate and that's why I believe in second chances, she proudly told her 3 year old daughter, Stacy.

Life is all about Second Chances!
