😊Chapter-2
Why can't he stop fighting??
"Bro, best of luck!" I said to Parth and gave him a hug. He hugged me back.
Parth- I mean Parth Kashyap- was my childhood best friend. Both of us knew every single thing about our existence. He was way too confused with all the practical and so had called me for help. I had told him to come to my house so that we'd study together. And at the end of our study session his lessons were as clear as crystal.
"Hope you crack the jackpot again!" his lips pulled up into a smile, lighting his chocolate brown eyes. He had a good, almost-six-feet height and his skin was beautiful, silky and russet colored with his dark eyes set deep above the high planes of his cheekbones.
"Thanks." I too smiled at him in return. "So, will meet at the exam hall?"
"Of course." He quickly went away to get ready for the exam.
I showered and changed into my school uniform and drove to my school in my brand new Aston Martin DBS 104. Yeah, yeah, I know I'm too spoilt! But, hey, I was legal driver; I'd my license as soon as I was eighteen on August of the previous year, that is, seven months before. I got this shiny new car and a Samsung Tab 4 as my birthday presents form Dad.
The paper went well. It was as easy as anything and I believe I've answered everything correctly. Now, just one more exam and then a long holiday of almost three months.
After the exam I was sitting with my friends at the school canteen, having lunch and discussing about the question paper.
"Kya bakwaas paper the, yaar!" Kaustu- I mean Kaustuki Sherpa- groaned, her cute childish face solemn and her lips pouting a little.
I contradicted her. "Why? It was an easy paper."
"Sanyu, your measures are off." Jiggy- Jignesh Patel- said and slipped his arm around Kaustu. They're having a romantic history for a few years.
"Why?" I asked a bit offended.
"Sanyu' you're the first girl of this school," Vidz- Vidushi Kumar - interjected.
"So?" I raised my eyebrow.
"Everything is easy for you!" Parth answered.
"Now it's better if you don't talk much." Jiggy commented. "FYI, you're the third boy of this school."
"Guys, I'm just a normal eighteen year old, not some know-it-all." I defended myself. "Moreover you all acquire good ranks."
"Whatever!" Vidz shrugged.
"f**k you." I showed her my middle finger.
"Go and f**k yourself." Kaustu retorted.
"Oh! Cut it out, guys!" Both Parth and Jiggy said together. They looked at each other, laughed a bit and continued together, "Give it a break!"
As I entered my house I saw Mum was about to go out. She didn't look like my Mum, rather like my elder sister with her tall and beautiful figure and dark brown straight hair unlike mine which were slightly wavy. I had too much Dad in me.
"How's your exam?" Mum asked as-a-matter-of-factly tone, without any concern.
"Mum...it was...umm..."I was too shocked to speak properly. She knew my exams were going on?! Moreover I couldn't believe that she'd actually stopped to speak to me. As a general rule she never talked to me if it wasn't anything big. I knew I was babbling but I couldn't help it.
She cut me off. "One word, Sanyu. Good or bad? I don't have the whole day." She adjusted her expensive silk and chiffon sari. She always wore expensive saris, be it at home or at a party. Anju Agarwal was one of the shopping-craziest (if there is even a word like this) woman of this society.
I was a little offended with her rudeness. "Good." I answered in a dejected voice.
She just nodded her head and hurried out of the house.
I went to my room and changed into my casual tank top and shorts. I cleaned my room and then called Dad.
"Hello?" My Dad's deep gravelly voice sounded on the other side of the phone.
"Dad, it's me." I answered.
"Oh. Hey, beautiful! How was your exam?"
I cheered up a little bit. "It was great, Dad. Actually, more than great."
He seemed happy with my response. "So your ICSE is over. But tomorrow you have JEE, right?"
"Yes, Dad."
"Okay then. Take some rest and don't stress yourself. I know you're well prepared."
"Okay, Dad." I ended the call.
I lay down on my bed and tried to get some sleep. But I couldn't. I just thought about the difference between Mum and Dad. Dad cared for me so much but didn't have time to stop and listen to anything I say. I felt pity on myself. I felt horrible. Sanyukta Agarwal was the girl who had petty thing in life but not the most important one- the love and support of Mum Dad at the same time. Although Dad loved me, but I still longed for the love of Mum.
I couldn't tolerate anymore. I took out the packet of cigarettes from my bag and lit it with a lighter which also remained in my bag. I took a puff and then a few more. But I couldn't relax. I darted up the stairs and grabbed a bottle of white wine from the bar in our terrace. I took some sips- alcohol always seemed to soothe my nerves.
I paced around the terrace, drinking and smoking- relaxing. I stopped facing my neighbor- my sworn enemy's house. The whole neighborhood was quiet except for the occasional honking of the cars on the road. My enemy's house was just at the back of my house with a thin wall separating both the houses. Yup, there were only a few inches between my hose and my enemy's house!
Oh! I'd totally forgotten to say about my enemy. Okay. So my enemy and I had studied in the same school from kindergarten but we never got along. We'd our first fight on the first day of our kindergarten school. My enmity with him was as old as my friendship with Parth, Kaustu, Jiggy and Vidz. But he'd a brain and a good one also. He was the second boy of our school; he even stood second in ICSCE. Though both of us lived in the same neighborhood and studied in the same school, we never talked. And whenever we did talk, we bashed each other up- not literally but figuratively. And we fought for even the most trivial matters!
Did you know there is a phrase "talk of the devil and the devil appears"? Well, I started believing it that day!
Suddenly out of the blue someone appeared on the terrace opposite me. I looked up to see the tall frame of my enemy. His jaw was taut but there was something in his large chocolate brown eyes that made him look innocent and vulnerable. His arms were strong indicating he spent most of his hours in the gym. The neck of his red t-shirt was low, giving a view of his smooth, hard chest. The fabric of his shirt clung to his abdomen emphasizing the abs on his flat stomach. His black denim hung low on his waist and fit snugly around his long legs. His hair was messed up and fell all over his face making him look carelessly beautiful. There stood in front of me RANDHIR SINGH SHEKHAWAT- my enemy of fifteen years- looking like a Greek God- smoking hot and sexy as hell!
Wait, wait, wait! Hang on a sec! Before you think that I fancy him let me tell you that that's not the case. I absolutely loathe him! But I couldn't deny the fact that he was probably the most gorgeous boy of our school. Every part of him screamed sexy! Girls literally threw themselves at him, but he was too much of a goody-two-shoe to take any notice. Only God knows who he fancied- if he even did that's it!
He didn't see me at first. But when he actually did his eyes parted to slits seeing me smoking and drinking, I guess. He scowled at me and turned to an absolute one-eighty degree.
My mouth opened into a little o' of shock. How dare he scowl at me! I called him at his back, "Hey!"
He turned raising one of his eyebrows and pointing a finger at himself. "Me?"
"Yes."
He smirked. "What?" His voice sounded barely interested. Boy, did he have some attitude!
I felt insulted. "Why did you make that face at me?"
"I didn't make any face." He denied in a flat voice.
I was infuriated. "You did. I saw."
He folded his arms across his chest and smiled a smug smile. "If you saw then why are you asking?"
"I asked why." I fumed.
"Oh, what did you expect? Did you expect me to be thrilled at your sight? Apparently, I feel nauseated at the very sight of you. You know you're not normal? I feel as if you're an alien from some foreign planet. You..."
He would've continued if I hadn't interrupted him. "You asshole! Didn't your Mum teach you manners? You're not supposed to talk to a girl so rudely!"
He laughed. "Who is the girl here? You call yourself a girl? Have you ever stood in front of a mirror? And didn't your Mum teach you how to be a girl? Girls are su..."
I didn't let him finish. I was furious. How dare he talk about my Mum?! If looks could kill, he wouldn't be standing there now. I snapped at him. "You mean minded bustard! No. My f**king Mum didn't have the f**king time to teach me anything. She was so f**king busy with her f**king kitty parties that she didn't have even a f**king minute for me. You got the answer? Happy?"
"Sanyu, stop." I heard Parth's voice out of nowhere. His voice held nothing but concern for me. He came to my side and turned me around to look into my face.
"Parth!" I exclaimed and burst into tears. I flung my arms around his neck and sobbed into his throat. "Parth...tell him, Parth...my Mum..."
"It's okay, Sanyu. Just calm down." He put his arms around me and gently patted my back, trying to soothe me.
"Sanyu, what happened?"
"Why are you crying?"
"Parth, what happened?"
"Oh, Parth! For f**k's sake tell us what happened?"
I heard a chorus of voices behind me. All of my friends had assembled in the terrace. Parth released all of me but kept his arms around my waist and supported me. My friends came closer.
"I really don't know anything. I just heard her shouting at him." Parth pointed his thumb towards Randhir who was still standing in his place, shell-shocked by my outburst. "I guess he told her something about her Mum..." Parth trailed off as I looked up at him.
"You better had not said her anything about her mother." Kaustu rebuked Randhir, her voice as cold as steel.
"It's okay, Kaustu." Parth eyed her meaningfully, trying to make her understand not to argue with Randhir.
"Yeah, leave it." Jiggy backed Parth up. "He didn't do it intentionally. He doesn't know anything. He..." Jiggy stopped midway when Kaustu gave him a stern look.
"Fine." Vidz snapped. "Kaustu and I are taking Sanyu to her room. Make him understand not to talk to her like that ever."
Vidz took the already burnt-out cigarette butt from my hand and threw it while Kaustu took the bottle of wine and handed it to Jiggy. Jiggy put on the lid of the bottle and placed it on the bar.
I was still sobbing lightly and Kaustu and Vidz had to literally drag me down the stairs and to my room.
"Go and wash your face." Kaustu instructed.
"Kaustu, he..." I was still not able to speak properly, as angry and depressed as I was.
"It's okay, Sanyu," Vidz said in a comforting voice. Both Kaustu and Vidz put a comforting hand on my arms.
"Go to the washroom and get this matter out of your head, okay?" Kaustu gave me a little push towards the washroom.
"I'll better get some food for her," Vidz said and walked out of the room.
I started towards the washroom. I splashed water on my face and then looked into the mirror. The face in the mirror was not a stranger to me. Every other day I ended up in the washroom with blotchy, tear-strained face, red and puffy eyes and worry lines on my forehead.
I played and replayed my confrontation with Randhir in my head while looking at the mirror. I vented out all my anger, cursing and swearing at him profusely.
I was in the washroom for quite sometime. As I came into my room, I saw my friends sitting or standing on or around the couch and at the same time a warm and mouth-watering aroma hit my nose.
There were some smoking hot, delicious pizzas waiting to be devoured on the tea-table. A smile automatically came on my face. I loved pizzas- I was absolutely crazy about its heavenly taste.
Everyone heaved a sigh of relief as they saw me smiling.
"Guys!" I hugged all of them at a time. "I don't know what I would've lived without you all. I'm very lucky to have such loving and caring friends like you. No one can beat me in this- I've the best of friends anyone ever had or can have. I love you all."
"We love you too, Sanyu," they chorused.
"Okay. Now please let's have the pizza." Vidz suggested.
"Yeah," Jiggy added. "I can't wait anymore. The pizzas are begging us to have them." He made a pathetic face.
We all laughed at his little joke and then dug into the pizzas. It vanished within minutes. It was as if it hadn't existed- not a single crumb was left on the plates.
"Well, that's a meal!" I commented happily. I felt content.
"All thanks to Kaustu," Parth said. "She is the one who gave the idea of ordering pizzas."
Kaustu laughed. "I only said Sanyu likes pizzas. All of you know that as well."
"But you're a genius." Jiggy gave her a hug. "That's why I love you so much!"
"Jokes apart, guys," I said. "You're not here to cheer me up, are you?"
"We're here to study!" Vidz shrieked, suddenly remembering the reason of their arrival. "We've JEE tomorrow." She started panicking. She was such a little nerd.
"It's fine, Vidz. We're well prepared." Kaustu tried to stop Vidz's panic attack.
I too joined her. "Vidz, we've the whole night to study. Let's get to our books."
The rest of the evening passed in a blur. We studied almost the whole night- they didn't go home- and took a few breaks of ten to fifteen minutes in between to lighten our mood. We had a light supper and a whole lot of coffee to stay put up at night.
Vidz, Kaustu and I woke up almost at the same time when the alarm went off at 6 o'clock the next morning. We're sleeping comfortably on my bed while Parth and Jiggy shared the couch. It was actually a sofa-cum-bed and it accommodated both the boys easily. They didn't hear the alarm and were sleeping like logs.
Vidz sat up on the bed, rubbing her eyes and yawning like anything. Kaustu still lay on the bed, rolling over and over on her sides. I didn't have any problem waking up early at the slightest sound, all thanks to my Mum.
I walked across the room towards the couch to wake up the sleeping boys.
"Parth. Jiggy." I shouted, shaking them violently. "Get up, sleepyheads. Wake up!"
After shaking and shouting at them for ten minutes they finally stirred and half-opened their eyes. After another five minutes of shouting they sat up on the couch lazily.
"Go and get fresh." I signaled the boys to go to the washroom when I came out of it. Kaustu and Vidz had already washed up and got ready to go home.
Both Parth and Jiggy went to the washroom together.
"You could've stayed for breakfast," I said to the girls.
"Sanyu, we need to brush our teeth and our mums would be expecting us now," Kaustu said.
"Moreover, we dined here last night," Vidz added. "If we don't have breakfast at home, Kurukshetra will start for the...well, God knows how many times. I've lost count of the Kurukshetras." Vidz made a face remembering her silly fights with her Mum.
We couldn't help laughing. The boys came back into the room and we're still laughing.
"Do we get to hear the joke?" Jiggy walked past us to stand beside Kaustu. He put his arms around her waist and pulled her closer to him.
"Women like to keep their secrets," Kaustu answered, sounding all seductive. Jiggy was immediately turned on. He started to close in on Kaustu.
"Oi, lovebirds!' Parth interrupted them. "Let's go home. Romance later."
"You're such a mean thing, Parth." Jiggy retorted. He slid his arms away from Kaustu to gather his books.
"It's good to be mean." Parth retorted back.
"f**k you." Jiggy muttered.
"I won't let you f**k me. May be you're but I'm not gay." Parth smirked. "And if you ever try something I'll personally cut your balls and draw fake boobs on you."
"What the f**k?!" Jiggy was all shocked.
I decided to interrupt them as Kaustu and Vidz were too busy laughing at them. "Shut the hell up, you two. Fighting like a married couple!"
They looked at me and stared laughing. Soon all of us were laughing together.
I pushed them out of the room. "Go home and revise. See you at the exam hall."
Teaser of next chapter: A polite voice interrupted our conversation... I looked up to see Randhir's six-feet-tall frame beside me... Randhir sat on the chair beside me. "Well," he began. "Sayunkta, I..."... My mouth opened into a little O' of shock. Did he just say that?!...
