Chapter 19 :-
Ranveer's jaw dropped. Sanyukta froze.
"What?" came a faint whisper.
"Ky..kya hua cha..champ?" Randhir told in between hiccups.
"FARZIII!" Randhir shouted.
Sanyukta regained composure and walked to him. She asked Ranveer to go out for a while and he obeyed silently. His dad's colleague comes to their house to stay there for some days and after a few days she is declared as his mother - He was shocked beyond imagination. He was a mere boy of six. He didn't know how to react. One thing he knew for sure, he didn't like her anymore now. He was Randhir's child. The way everyone says, 'Like father, like son.'
"Randhir kya bola tumne?" Sanyukta asked.
"Ranveer tumhara beta hai," Randhir replied innocently. He was sleepy now.
"He is my child?" she asked again.
"Haan farzi, woh tumhara beta hai," Randhir told and lied down. He slept off.
Sanyukta knew he wasn't in a condition of answering her questions. He covered him with the blanket and went out silently. She came down and sat on the couch with a sullen face. Parth saw her and asked her what the matter is. She narrated the entire conversation to him and he was shocked.
After a few minutes of silence,
"Maybe he meant like I am his mother because he loves me and obviously I am going to marry him!" Sanyukta spoke up.
"Sanyu, even if he means that way, Ranveer must have a mother right? Obviously now Randhir must not have given birth to him!" Parth told.
"Oh c'mon. I am sure he meant it that way," she argued.
"Maybe he did. But who is his actual mother?" Parth asked.
"She is...that I don't know!" she replied.
"Let's find out then?" he asked.
"Parth I have to tell you something!" she told and looked down.
"What?" he asked folding his hands to his chest.
"Woh...one day I went to Ranveer's room when he was sleeping. He did not have a blanket on so I took out one and went to cover him. I noticed that he has a mole on his right wrist just like..." she told and trailed off assuming that Parth would understand.
"You mean?" he asked.
"Maybe. I don't know!" she replied.
"Chalo," he told and walked towards Randhir's room.
Sanyukta followed.
Parth started searching for Ranveer's birth certificate. He asked Sanyukta to help him too. Finally, after 15minutes of searching they found a file named Ranveer locked in the cupboard. He pulled out the birth certificate from the file. They searched for the birth date. It showed 21st January and the hospital of birth was Union Hospitals'. Sanyukta's legs didn't support her anymore and she fell on the floor. Parth was also surprised.
Randhir stirred in his sleep. Parth got scared and put everything in its place and locked the cupboard. He dragged Sanyukta out. They sat on the couch again.
"How is it possible?" Sanyukta finally told after a long silence.
"There's only one person who can answer this and right now he is sleeping. So we have to wait!" Parth replied.
"No. Randhir will not tell us anything. There is another person who can tell us the truth!" she told and pulled out the car keys and walked out followed by Parth.
"Sanyu? Where are we going?" he asked.
"Drive, FITE!" she replied.
"Vardhan sir," he told and sat on the driver's seat.
He started driving. She was looking out of the window particularly at nothing. Her thoughts again made way to her memory lane, *The day she had given birth to their child.*
FLASHBACK :
UNION HOSPITALS :
"Argh...ugh!" Sanyukta screamed.
"Relax Sanyu, sab theek hoga," Parth told. He was driving while his hands were busy trembling.
"Sab theek? Its freaking paining you idiot! Aaa!" she screamed.
"Sanyu kuch nahi hoga, think about princess," Kaustuki told.
"Aaa...Prince! Not princess!" she screamed.
"Princess Sanyu," Kaustuki told.
"Prince! Aaa!" she screamed again.
"She is giving me goosebumps!" Sahil retorted.
"You idiot, you have no idea..aaa..how much it...aaa...pains!" she screamed.
"Sanyukta don't shout. Darr lag raha hai!" Jiggy pleaded.
"Jiggy mai tumhe...aaa...maar daaa!" she screamed.
"Guys shut up. Let me concentrate. Sanyu tum chilla sakti ho!" Parth told.
"Thanks...aaa!" she screamed.
"Parth isko special treatment kyu?" Vidushi asked.
"Really now?" Kaustuki told.
"Aaa!" came another shrill cry.
"Okay sorry," Vidushi told realising what situation they were in.
"Reached," Parth told as they reached the nearest hospital.
Parth carried a screaming Sanyukta to the hospital and she was immediately taken to the OT. Everybody out were scared. Parth was pacing her and there unable to control his anxiety. He sat down and again got up and started walking here and there. He saw nurses and doctors run in and out which inturn gave him goosebumps. Sanyukta's shrill cries had not subsided which were making the people out jumo in their places with fear.
"Itna dard hota hai?" Vidushi asked with her eyes bulged out.
"Obviously. Timepass le liye thodi chilla rahi hai! Kautuki retorted.
Parth tried to talk to the people coming out but they just pushed him away and continued their work.
"One can come in," the nurse told.
Everyone pushed Parth in assuming he is the strongest and Sanyukta's dearest. Parth went in and looking at Sanyukta's condition he started shivering. Somehow he carried himself to Sanyukta's bedside and held her hand.
"How are you?" he asked not knowing what to speak.
"Aaa! How are you? Seriously Parth?" she managed to tell.
"I mean kaisi ho tum?" Parth told sheepishly.
"You fool, same thing in different languages! Aaa!" she shouted.
"Sanyukta mujhe darr lag raha hai," Parth told.
"Then f**king get out! Aaa!" she shouted angrily.
"I mean how are you?" he asked again making her angrier.
"Parth, get out!" she shouted.
Parth nearly fainted looking at the Sanyukta's covered down part. He wasn't able to see anything but still he was on the verge of fainting. Suddenly Sanyukta stopped shouting. She was closing her eyes.
"Thankgod she is sleeping," Parth told softly.
"Wake her up! She shouldn't sleep," the nurse shouted.
"What? But she needs rest!" Parth told sheepishly.
"She'll die if she closes her eyes. Wake her up! You are here to make conversation with her not to dance!" the nurse scolded.
"Ohh okay. Sanyukta utho!" Parth shouted and patted her cheek.
"Sanyukta get up! Princess ke liye!" Parth told.
Sanyukta immediately opened her eyes and told, "Prince!"
Parth understood this is the only way to keep her up - by aruging.
"Princess!" Parth told.
"I am carrying it you idiot. It is a boy!" Sanyukta retorted.
Suddenly they heard a cry. A sweet cry. Parth looked at the fragile creature in front of him. Sanyukta strained her neck to take a glimpse of her baby.
"Well, she won. It is a baby boy," the doctor told.
The doctor handed over the small baby to Parth. He held it carefully as though he was the most precious thing in the whole world. He was a fragile little thing - A small round face, small hands and legs, cute little nose, thin pink lips. Awww, he looked so cute wrapped in a while towel. He was swaying his little hands. Parth was lost in his beauty and cuteness.
"Parth?" Sanyukta told smiling.
No response. He was just staring at the new member.
"PARTH!" she shouted louder this time.
"Haan?" Parth told still not able to take his eyes from the baby.
"I want to hold my baby," she pleaded.
Parth unwillingly handed over the baby to Sanyukta who took utmost care in holding him.
"My baby?" the nurse told.
"Yes," Parth replied.
"Only hers?" the nurse asked assuming Parth to be the father.
"I am her brother," Parth told proudly.
"Ohh sorry," the nurse replied and gave a pill to Sanyukta.
Everyone came inside followed by Vardhan sir.
"How are you Sanyukta?" Vardhan asked.
"I am fine sir," Sanyukta replied.
"Umm...can I hold him?" Vardhan asked.
Sanyukta happily gave her child to Vardhan sir. Vardhan sir smiled.
"Sanyukta iske aankhen bilkul tumhari tarah hai. Badi badi," Vidushi told.
"And he has pink lips just like Ran-" Kaustuki told and stopped mentally kicking herself for uttering it.
Sanyukta's smile disappeared. How she and Randhir dreamt about this day. But now, he wasn't here. She felt bad. She was shattered again. She wanted to cry her heart out but also she did not want to spoil the happy moment.
Parth noticed this and told, "Sanyu, mai bohot darr gaya tha!"
She started laughing. She narrated the whole incident to others and everyone started laughing at how typical Parth is. He hung his head.
"Maine PhD nai kar rahki hai!" Parth told defending himself.
"Haan tumne PhD sirf how are you puchne mei kar rahki hai na?" Sanyukta joked.
"Mujhe bhi pakadna hai," everyone shouted.
"Guys, dhyaan se! Isse kuch hua na toh mai sabko maar dalungi!" Sanyukta told and yawned.
"Okay. I have to leave now," Vardhan told and took leave.
"Guys tum sab bhi jaao, many people are not allowed to stay. I will stay here," Parth told.
"Two people can stay. I will stay too," Kaustuki told.
"Okay, par tum sab log jaao, Sanyukta ke discharge hone ke baad milna. Abb jaao! Sanyu, mai medicines leke aata hoon," Parth told and went out along with the others.
"Sanyu, he looks so cute!" Kaustuki shrieked.
"I know right," Sanyukta replied looking at the little life in front of her sleeping happily in the cradle.
Parth came in.
"Sanyukta so jaao abb," Parth told adjusting her bedsheet.
"Parth? Randhir yaha hota toh kitna accha hota na?" Sanyukta told and shed a tear.
Parth immediately went and engulfed her in a hug. Kaustuki joined in.
"Agar koi picture click karta toh accha hota na?" Kaustuki told.
Sanyukta and Parth laughed.
"Nai guys, seriously. Mujhse bhi zyaada Randhir ne iss din ka intezaar kiya tha. Par abb woh yaha hai hi nahi. Parth, woh sab happiness, that smiles, that concern, that care sab jhoot tha? Sanyukta asked like a little vulnerable kid.
"Sshh, so jaao!" Parth told and made her lie down. Due to the medicines she fell asleep.
Parth asked Kaustuki to take care of her and he went out to have a talk with the doctors.
He was waiting outside the doctor's cabin. He was scared for Sanyukta. He was thinking how will Sanyukta be able to take care of the baby and its expenses. She is just a student. She has no income. He was sure she wanted to give the child a happy future but now she will have to risk her studies. If she risks her studies then how will she get a job. Her parents were not on her side, Randhir had betrayed her, she could not ask help from Randhir's dad either. He was a brother to her. She was his little sweet sister. He was scared. He was lost in his thoughts.
Just then a couple came and sat beside him. The woman was crying badly. The woman's cry broke Parth's trance.
"Kyu hua? Koi problem?" Parth asked genuinely.
"Woh...we...lost our baby," the man replied stuttering.
"What?" Parth asked.
"Haan, our first and second babies died when they came out of the womb," the man replied.
"Matlab kaise?" Parth asked.
"Maybe my wife has some problem that's why we have come here for a check up. She's is the best gynec here," the man replied close to tears.
"I am sorry," Parth replied.
"We are not able to bear this. It was so hard when the first baby died and now the second," the man told.
The nurse called the next person to come in. Parth allowed them to go in as they had a bigger problem. They came out crying after 15 minutes. The woman was still crying.
"Sir? What happened?" Parth asked.
"We cannot have a baby, the birth canal of my wife has some problem so even if she conceives one it will come out dead," the man told and cried.
"I am so sorry," Parth told.
The couple started walking. Something striked Parth's head and he called out to them. He had a talk with them and they went away.
Parth walked to Sanyukta's room preparing his mind to talk to her.
"Sanyukta?" Parth told as he came in.
She had woke up and was looking at the baby with love.
"Parth isko jitni der bhi dekho mann nahi bharta hai na?" Sanyukta told.
"Hmm," Parth told and took a chair beside her.
"Kya hua Parth?" Kaustuki asked.
"Sanyu, listen to me very carefully. Gussa mat hona and don't interrupt me. Kaustuki tum bhi!" Parth told.
Both nodded their heads in approval.
Parth took a deep breath and started, "Sanyukta, you are just studying. Tum abhi sirf third year mein ho. You have to take care of him and study which is impossible. You have to get good marks to get placement in a good company, to earn properly. You won't be able to manage studying and taking care of him simultaneously. Moreover, authorities will never allow a small baby to stay in hostel with you and you cannot stay anywhere out because we don't have money to spend on that. Even if we do have money, jaha college hai waha pe koi bhi homes ya guesthouses nahi hai. They are faraway from the college. Tum bhaag bhaag ke har roz college nahi aa paaogi. You'll only be jumping here and there if you do that your studies will be affected. I am sure you don't want that. Dekho Sanyu, tumhare parents bhi tumhare saath nahi hai taaki tum apne baby ko apni maa ke saath rakho. I am sure you won't ask Randhir's dad any type of help. Mai nahi chahta ki tumhare studies effect ho and I know that tumhara sapna hai ki tum ek bohot acchi Mechanical Engineer bano, haina?" Parth told and stopped.
Sanyukta was shocked by what Parth told but she knew that every bit of it was true.
"Haan, par tum kehna kya chahte ho?" she asked.
"Sanyukta why not give your baby to someone who doesn't have a child?" Parth told scared.
"What? Tum pagal ho?" Kaustuki told.
"Kaustuki socho, if we get anyone who is ready to takecare of him as their own blood then iski future safe hai. Someone who will take care of him like their own. Someone who knows the value of a baby," Parth told.
Sanyukta was lost. "What is Parth talking about? Giving off her baby? Has he gone mad?" she thought.
"Sanyukta mujhe pata hai ki tum kya soch rahi ho," Parth told.
"Parth tumhe ye idea kaha se mila? I mean," Sanyukta asked.
Parth narrated his encounter with the couple.
"Okay Parth. What you are saying might be right but how can I trust someone else with my baby's future?" Sanyukta asked.
"Tum unse milo toh sahi? They are coming at 6.00pm," Parth told.
6.00pm -
After talking to them even Sanyukta felt they deserved having a baby. They were dying for a progeny. She agreed after confirming that her baby is in safe hands.
"Sanyukta, ek baar Randhir ko bhi?" Parth asked.
"Koi zaroorat nahi hai," Kaustuki replied and Sanyukta nodded.
Parth couldn't help but nod.
The doctor asked for the father's signature along with the mother's. Sanyukta told that the baby didn't have a father. The couple and the doctor assumed him to be dead and completed the formalities. The baby's custody was given to the couple who thanked Sanyukta and Parth a thousand times and left with all smiles upon receiving such a beautiful gift.
"Parth hume Randhir ko bata dena chahiye na?" Sanyukta asked.
"Bohot jaldi yaad aa gaya tumhe!" Parth taunted.
"I mean Parth woh, agar Randhir ne kuch bola toh?" she replied scared.
"Kuch nahi hoga, I am there!" Parth assured.
"Hmm, okay!" she replied and sat down on her bed.
The doctor came in.
"Very well Sanyukta, being a girl of 19, I didn't expect you to be so mature. I am impressed," the doctor told, "You have no idea what you have given them, you have given them a new ray of hope, a new reason to live."
"Thankyou doctor but the idea was his," she told and pointed towards Parth.
"Very well young man!" the doctor told.
"Thanks!" Parth replied meekly.
"Well, Sanyukta your reports have come. You are perfectly fine now. You can go home!" the doctor told and left.
"Home?" Sanyukta murmured sadly.
"Sanyu c'mon! Let's go," Kaustuki told.
They left for FITE together.
Sanyukta was lost in her thoughts.
"Kyu Randhir? Kyu? Why did you leave me alone? Tumhari vajah se I had to give up my baby for his future. Had you been there today, mujhe apne baby kisi aur ko nahi dena padta. You have no idea how bad I missed you during the delivery. I know mujhse zyaada you wanted to be a part of this. You were waiting for the baby more than I was! Then why, why Randhir? Why did you do that? Was all that concern, all that care and love just a big lie?" Sanyukta thought and cried silently.
No one observed her. She knew if Randhir was in the car with them then he would have wiped those tears away and would somehow make her smile. But alas! He wasn't there.
FITE :-
The minute she reached FITE everyone pounced on her.
"Baby kaha hai?" everyone shouted upon not finding the baby.
CANTEEN :
Parth had narrated the whole story to everyone.
Everyone was silent.
"Par Randhir? Guys tum logo na Randhir ko batana zaroori nahi samjha? Woh uska baby bhi hai!" Sahil told breaking the silence.
"Usko bole hum? Really Sahil? After what he has done?" Kaustuki exclaimed.
"Par Kaustu, he is Randhir's baby too," Vidushi told.
"Yes! He is. Wait no, hell no, he is not! He is only my baby," Sanyukta told and after a while, "I mean he is their baby only."
"Guys, good decision I must say," Vidushi told accepting defeat.
"Yeah, good decision!" Sahil told.
"Haan I agree too," Jiggy told.
Sanyukta went and told Vardhan sir about her decision and he asked her to leave after listening to her. After Sanyukta left, he also got up and walked away.
Sanyukta while going back to her hostel saw Randhir on his way to the canteen. "Should I tell him?" she thought. She decided against it and walked away.
"Pahunch gaye!" Parth told and jumped out breaking her trance.
"Chalo," Sanyukta told and without wasting a minute she walked towards Vardhan sir's home in the staff quarters. She knew he would be there only as it was holi and he never played holi.
She knocked.
A maid opened it.
"Vardhan sir?" Sanyukta asked as she stepped in.
"Ek minute rukiye," the maid told and went in probably to call Vardhan sir.
This was the first time she had visited Vardhan sir's home. She knew her love had stayed in this house for about a year and a half. Vardhan sir had a simple but elegant house. Exceptionally clean, things kept in their proper places and minimal furniture. But what caught her eye was a medium-sized portrait frame adorning the wall; it was Randhir's and Sanyukta's, a hand-painted one. She went to it and saw read out the footer aloud, "Randhir Singh Shekhawat and Sanyukta Aggarwal - Born to be together." She silently cried again. Parth came and put a hand on her shoulder. He saw the landscape frame beside it, it belonged to the dreamteam. He read the footer aloud, "My best dream team - 2014."
"Looking at athe pictures?" Vardhan told.
"Sir?" Sanyukta told. She ran and hugged him.
"How are you? Aur apna task kaha tak aaya?" Vardhan asked.
"Thankyou sir," Parth told.
"But I don't want just a thanks! I want victory!" Vardhan replied.
"Sir, ye picture?" Sanyukta asked changing the topic.
"Randhir ne banayi thi when he used to lived here with me," Vardhan told.
"Sir agar aapko bata tha he was innocent then why didn't you tell us?" Sanyukta asked.
"Usne manaa kiya tha!" Vardhan replied.
"Par sir aapko batana chahiye tha!" Sanyukta argued.
"Sanyukta why do you think I called Akhila to tell you the truth?" Vardhan asked.
"Maybe because Randhir asked you not to tell us," Sanyukta muttered and looked at the ground.
"Exactly, tum dono yaha?" Vardhan asked.
"Hum?" Sanyukta started but after a pause continued, "Sir hume Ranveer ke baare mein..."
"Speak up Sanyukta!" Vardhan told.
"Sir mujhe puchna tha ki Ranveer mera beta hai kya?" she replied in one go.
Vardhan sir was shocked. He hadn't expected this coming.
"Kya bol rahi ho Sanyukta?" Vardhan asked not ready to tell the truth and neither he wanted to lie.
"Sir? Please don't lie. Mujhe bata hai ki aap Randhir ke baare mein sab kuch jaante ho!" she pleaded.
"Sanyukta usne mujhe kuch bhi batane se manaa kiya hai and I agreed," Vardhan told.
"Sir acchai ke liye promise todna galat nahi hai," she told.
"Tum bilkul Niharika ki tarah ho Sanyukta," Vardhan thought.
"Sir? Boliye na?" Sanyukta pleaded.
"Okay sit down," Vardhan told, "Parth?"
Parth was busy looking at Randhir's painting. He was extremely silent. Vardhan patted his back.
"Sir, galat kiya hum ne sir! We don't even deserve his forgiveness!" Parth told and hugged Vardhan sir tight.
"It's okay Parth, it's okay!" Vardhan told and patted his back
"Come and sit. There's a small story I have to tell you guys," Vardhan told.
After settling on the sofa, "Abb jab mai sach bol hi raha hoon, toh let me tell you the whole story!" Vardhan told and adjusted his specs.
There ends my nineteenth chapter. There comes the cliffhanger! :P Sorry guys. :) I am sure everyone here would agree with me when I say - Waiting and reading after cliffhangers is all the more fun? Isn't it? :D No one agrees? :( Eventhough, wait until tomorrow! :P
