Important Questions
I nodded my head, "Yup, I had to. It was too difficult to decide where to adjust which furniture."
"Okay, I guess there are too many things to be fixed."
She was right I had got most of my stuff my California as I didn't had a habit of staying without it. I sipped the coffee while she looked around the place. "Kria, how come you landed up doing graduation in classical dance forms of India?" I asked. She kept her cup down sipping up the coffee. "Hmm... well as I told you I came to Mumbai 2 years back when I was 15 for my 11th and 12th, these two years I stayed in boarding school being a science student but I realized science wasn't my cup of tea. Then after 12th I chose my hobby of dance as my carrier."
She had chosen her passion over being a doctor very few people have the courage to do so, "So why aren't you staying in a hostel? Your college had enough space to adjust the students." I asked.
"It had but I wasn't comfortable staying there so I came up with the idea of staying in an apartment. I had told my parents beforehand that I won't ever live in a hostel again." She was living in the apartment which was right in front of mine from last two months. After her 12th she didn't went back to Dehradun instead stayed here in Mumbai to learn how to live alone and handle your own self. I remember how I had spent my two months partying in California with my friends, checking out every new food place and new places for shopping.
"Angreza, so let's begin with furniture" She tied her dupatta around her with hair tied up in a bun. It was like doing a heavy workout y pulling these heavy things. We placed the couch, my bed, small dining table on their correct places then moved on the electric appliances. It was my music system, "Damn... Angreza be careful, don't drop it... slowly... slowly" we had held the system from each side.
"Yaar... it's too heavy. Meri kamar... "
"Forget about your kamar, it'll break." Somehow we managed to keep it on the table, "Kria, my DVD collection."
"Okay, Mr. Angrez. Is it in this box?" I nodded. She went forward to open the box "Wow this is your collection or a DVD library?" it had around 400 DVD's which was to be placed in the rack. Everything was done including the stuff to be arranged in my cupboard and in kitchen properly this time. "Angreza, tum California se sirf apna stuff laye ho ya apne neighbors ka bhi?" she giggled while we both were lying on the couch exhausted after work. "Kria, don't you think TV screen is bit more towards left."
"Hmm... I'll just place it proper" she moved to the wall where TV was hanging and moved it slightly. "Is it okay, Angreza?"
"More right"
"Is it fine now?" my head moved in negation. She moved it more towards right, "Now?"
"Actually pehle hi theek tha, move it left." She glared at me, "Khud kar lo, right left... right left... right left." I laughed at her red nose. She threw the cushion on my face before I could throw back something on her my cell rang. It was dad, "Hey dad... How are you?"
"I'm fine son... how are you and how's everything?" He was happy to know that my whole stuff was arranged properly, "By the way who helped you?" I told him about Kria. "Oh... wow you're forward son, in a single day you became friend with her. Now send a pic of my hone waali daughter-in-law." She smiled sitting at a distance, I felt to embarrassed even to look at her.
"Dad plz..." uneasily I gave a smile to her.
"Okay son so I just wanted to inform that the bike you had ordered for would be delivered by tonight." I was happy to know that my problem of travelling would be solved. Kria left as she had some work and dad kept on teasing but I felt relived of the fact at least she wasn't in front me otherwise it would have been uncomfortable for me.
From the very next day the trouble was a little less as my new bike was there with me. It was easier to go reach the places now. That afternoon I was travelling back from my college and again traffic, this was a major problem of the city. I waited for red signal to turn green when on the left of the road I saw Kria in an auto. "Kria" I said aloud.
She was lost in her book, "Kriaaa" I screamed.
"Oye Kria... Right side dekh"
I thought of giving a lift to her till house as we had to be at the same place. She flipped pages of her book, "Kriaaa" I shouted again waving my hands like a crazy person, jumping over my bike so that she could see me. There was too much crowd of vehicles that I couldn't reach her and could do nothing except screaming out her name. Everyone was thought I was an insane. The signal turned green and her auto left ahead. "Kriaaa" I tried again but no use. People had begun honking asking to move, I too kick started my bike.
On reaching the floor I straight away dashed into her apartment. She was preparing something in her open kitchen, "Hey Angreza... watsupp? Looking tired"
"Of-course tired of screaming in middle of the road" I said drinking water directly from the jug. "Kyu? Kisi traffic waale se jhagda hua kya?" she chuckled. I informed her about the incident that how I made a fool of myself shouting her name in the middle of the road and she didn't even notice. "You were too busy in your stupid book that my screams went unnoticed. People out there were staring as if I've escaped a mental asylum."
She was laughing hard on me, "Sorry Angreza... I was busy reading."
"Teri reading ki to... Chal abhi khaana khila... bhookh lagi hai" She dragged me to the dining table, "Khaane se saath I'll serve desert too after all itni mehnat karke aye ho... beech sadak main" she laughed.
She had prepared yellow dal with rice in lunch. It had a variety of food on my table in California but here preparing meals on your own was quite difficult. I never said food made by her was inedible. It was flavorsome better than my burnt toast at least she could fill her and mine tummy. I didn't even know how to boil water properly.
After lunch we both helped each other to clean the dishes. I so wished that time any butler would just pop up from the window to say, "Let me do it for you Reyaansh sir" but in my dreams it would be possible. Completing the work I removed my shoes and got cozy on her sofa kept in hall falling asleep on it. She did her assignment. We shared an absolutely amazing bond and there's nothing to tell more as were found lying in each other's place more than our own, shared our meals or I should she prepared and I simply noted how it's being done etc.
I slept cozily for almost three hours when someone deprived me of my sleep, "Get up..." I ignored the disturbance. "Angreza... Angreza... Uth oye... Its evening get off the couch and kick start your bike plz"
"What is it? I'm not taking you on a ride now... Plz let me sleep"
She shook me vigorously, "Huh watevaa... since you've got that bike not even once you've given a ride to me but that's not the main point"
"Haw... I didn't give you a ride? Every time when I ask... you're having perfect excuse of assignment or cooking or blah blah blah... By the way what's the main point?" I uncovered my face from the pink cushion. "You wanna have dinner tonight?" she asked sternly.
What kind of silly question was that I thought, "Kyu aaj raat bhookha maarne ka irada hai?"
"Nooo... but the house is almost empty so we need to get something for market to cook, you idiot. Now wash your face and come" she said sardonically. I went to the wash basin and washed my face to go out till market with her.
To reminisce with my old friend, a chance to share some memories, and play gestures again.
I hated getting up early morning but too bad I had to leave the cozy couch and open the door as someone banging it hard from a long time. Dropping my feet on the floor I walked to the door to open. Some of the stuff was messily lying on the floor and I slipped on one my basketball. Stumbling in my sleepy condition I opened the knob before my head would get banged on the door. Outside my sweet neighbor Sharon was standing on whom I almost fell. "Stupid" I uttered.
She was in a white salwar suit with wet hair and fragrance of orchid's perfume. Her first question was whether I had a bath or not, but I didn't even had brushed. Straight from couch I fell in her arms losing my balance on the ball. "Yaar tum angrez log... huh too lazy. Go freshen up I'll make some coffee and breakfast." if my grand mom would have been there she would have said the same. I took the towel which was lying on of the boxes and went to the washroom. When I came out of the washroom she was ready with coffee and sandwich, taking the cup I settled next to her on couch. "Thank you" I said. "Swayam, you slept on this couch right?"
I nodded my head, "Yup, I had to. It was too difficult to decide where to adjust which furniture."
"Okay, I guess there are too many things to be fixed."
