PART 3:HIS STORY
BANNER CREDITS- ImmortalLove😊
Night sky was filled with thick, dense...black clouds. Clouds of pain, clouds of sorrow, clouds of defeat...thunders roared and the sky looked like it would shower its fury any second. Winds blew with so much vigor that it could uproot anything and everything coming its way. A girl was walking lifelessly amongst the adverse surroundings...she seemed lifeless...her eyes wore an insane look...her feet were staggering and she walked in a slight zig-zig manner...her messy, tangled hairs and the stream of tears that trickled down her cheeks gave away the distress she was feeling...
Zindagi Ne Zindagibhar Ghum Diye
Jitane Bhi Mausam Diye Sab Num Diye ...
Jab Tadapata Hai Kabhi Apana Koi
Khun Ke Aansu Rula De Bebasi ...
Ji Ke Phir Karana Kya Mujhko Aisi Jindagi...
Jisane Jakhmon Ko Nahi Marham Diye
Zindagi Ne Zindagibhar Ghum Diye
Jitane Bhi Mausam Diye Sab Num Diye
Zindagi Ne Zindagibhar Ghum Diye
Zoya felt cheated, she felt alone...no one was there to support her. All her life she'd thought about others...but neither they gave her anything in return nor she expected them to. This was the first time she dreamt of a happily ever-after...but her dreams never were completed...her hopes were thrashed...there was a limit to everything and that threshold was reached today...after all how much pain can she withhold??
She walked lifeless along the deserted roads...the restless weather was a display of her own inner turmoil. Her feet were aching due to the long distance she'd coursed but she bothered not to stop. Even mother nature couldn't bear her misery...she poured all the love she had for her to take...so as to wash her grief...her troubles...she was drenched in rain...completely...her eyes fluttered and she looked around herself. She recalled hearing the most dreadful truth of her life...that broke her to an extent that there was no scope to be healed...rain brought her to her senses but instead of pacifying her inner self...it aggravated the pain she felt...
Apne Bhi Pesh Aaye Hamase Ajnabee
Waqt Ki Saajish Koi Samajha Nahi...
Beiraada Kuchh Khataaye Hamase Ho Gayi
Raah Mein Patthar Meri Har Dam Diye
Jindagi Ne Jindagibhar Ghum Diye
Jitane Bhi Mausam Diye Sab Num Diye
Zindagi Ne Zindagibhar Ghum Diye
"KYUN?? KYUN??? KYUN KIYA AAPNE AISA? KYA BIGADA HAI MAINE AAPKA??" shouted Zoya in a hurt and angry voice, looking up...trying to make her Allah Miyaan hear her misery.
"KYUN AAPNE MERI ZINDAGI MEIN SIRF GUM DIYE HAIN...KYUN ALLAH MIYAAN?? KYA MAIN ITNI BURI HOON KI MUJHE MUSKURANE KA BHI HAQ NAHI...KYA MERE KARAM ITNE NAPAK HAIN KI MERE NASEEB MEIN SIRF DARD HAI?" she laughed over her plight as even the tears that helped her drive out her pain, evaded her. Her laughter was soon turned into loud sobs which wrecked every cell of her body...unable to bear her own weight...she slumped down on the wet mud at the corner of the road...
Her voice was thick yet light...she wasn't in condition to shout anymore...she needed someone...to hold her...to kiss her...to pat her back...to soothe her...no one...simply no one came...because she had none...no one to call her own...no one to guide her...to make her happy...she was all alone...
ALONE...
DEFEATED...
CRUSHED...
PAINED...
CRUMPLED...
Ik Mukkamal Kashamkash Hai Zindagi
Usane Hamase Ki Kabhi Na Dosti...
Jab Mili Mujhko Aansu Ke Woh Tophe De Gayi
Has Sake Hum Aise Mauke Kam Diye...
Zindagi Ne Zindagibhar Ghum Diye
Jitane Bhi Mausam Diye Sab Num Diye
Zindagi Ne Zindagibhar Ghum Diye
She held her face in her palms and cried...cried so loudly that even the roaring winds and cluttering of falling rain didn't mask the pain and anguish in her voice...
A car stopped near the place where she was sitting. A girl got down and was surprised to see her like that, "Zoya...?" She was none other than Humeira...her only companion...who finds her way to her no matter what the situation is. Humeira rushed to her and called out loud but on getting no response she held her shoulders and shook her. Zoya looked up with her tear-filled eyes and the look of pain that her eyes held shook Humi to the core.
"Zoya! Zoya...What happened? What are you doing here? Why are you crying?" panicked Humeira.
Zoya couldn't believe that Humeira was sitting in front of her...her sister...who always comforts her...try to reduce her troubles. Zoya felt light...she gave away and crushed into Humeira, crying as loudly as possible. Humeira's heart broke hearing her loud wails and seeing her forlorn state, "Humi, mere hisse mein khushiyan nahi hain...main har gayi humi...har gayi...ab aur nai jee sakti main yeh zindagi...aur nai seh sakti main..."she kept on ranting while crying her heart out. Humi held her tight...her questions could wait. After a while when her sobs subsided, Humeira wiped her tears and smoothed her hairs and spoke up with gentleness in her voice, "Zoee, What happened?"
"I was cheated Humi...I was blinded by my desires to love and being loved...I willfully gave myself all this pain. I wanted to escape...but now I'm trapped in such a situation that I've no one...no one Humi!!" she stopped but Humeira didn't intervene. Zoya continued after a while, "Maine jis insaan se nikah kiya...woh apne aape mein hi nahi hai...woh pagal hain Humeira...he's insane!" Humeira was shocked, she couldn't believe her ears, "What? Zoya what are you saying? Insane?"
"He hit me Humi...see..." she said pointing to the wound that Asad gave her. "His parents told me...they trapped me Humi...they made me marry their crazy son...SON...Humi he's not their son...he is not...they told me..." Zoya broke into sobs again.
"I want to go home Humi...I want to go home...I want my Ammi-Abbu...whatever they do...they're my parents...they'll understand my plight." Zoya said standing up. Humi nodded and they'd just took a step when a voice interrupted them, "Kahan jaogi Zoya beta? Un logon ke paas...jinhone paison ke liya tumhara sauda kar diya!!"
Both Zoya and Humeira turned around and saw Dilshad standing there. Humi didn't know her, hence gave her a quizzical look. She spoke further, "Yes, I'm telling you the truth...they've sold you...for the fifty lakhs that they got. Where would you go? They've left you all alone...they've left this city...the very moment you stepped out of that house."
Zoya couldn't take it anymore. She rushed to Dilshad and held her shoulders...shaking her vigorously, "You knew it...right?? You knew it...why are you telling me all this now?? Where were you when I was getting married to that insane...why didn't you tell me??" Dilshad hung her head low, "I'd no other go Zoya...I couldn't...they could harm my Asad..." "My only hope were you...I tried writing you a letter, but you didn't pay heed and before I could tell you anything about Asad, they threw me out of the house."
"Who the hell are you?" asked Humi in anger.
"I'm Dilshad...Asad's khala...his mother's distant cousin."
Humeira spoke up again, "Don't you ever think that Zoya is alone...she has me...I won't let you harm her or take her back into that hell. Zoya will be going with me...she won't be staying with a mad person."
"Mad...Mad...Mad!! My Asad is not mad...he's troubled...he's bruised...who wouldn't be...when he saw his mother being killed by his own father!??" Dilshad shouted out loud.
Zoya and Humeira were left stupefied by this new piece of information. Zoya looked into Dilshad's eyes and she nodded her head to confirm that whatever she said was the truth. "Do you want to hear his story??" Humeira was going to interrupt but Zoya voiced her consent, "Yes!"
"Come with me then..."
Dilshad took them to a weary house standing isolated in the far corner of the city. Once there, she looked around to find numerous photos of Asad with Dilshad, some of a little boy with a woman..." Who Asad ki Ammi hain...Zainab!" Dilshad pointed out to the very same woman. They sat down and Zoya looked towards Dilshad as if asking her to continue. Dilshad gave her a faint smile and began speaking, "It was 14 years back. My Asad was around 12 that time. He was the apple of his mother's eyes. I visited them in summers. During my stay, I bonded well with Asad and also figured out that there was some problem between Zainab and his husband Rashid. They kept on fighting for one thing or the other.Their's was an arranged marriage...which turned into a bearing for both of them. Rashid's father had asked for Zainub's hand for his son and her parents gladly obliged."
"Rashid uncle??" Zoya asked.
"Yes! He's is Asad's father. Okay! So it was my last day there but Asad was urging me to stay. I promised him that I'll return soon after my assignment is over." "Three months later, I finished my work and I wanted to meet Asad and so I headed back to Mumbai, Rashid was not there at that time, so he didn't know about my presence. One evening, I took Asad to the park and then we went to watch a movie. At around 10, we returned home. There was darkness all around and we could hear Rashid's loud voice and then Zainub's scream and then there was silence. Asad wiggled out of my hold to run to his mother but I saw him stop and his eyes widened...I rushed to him and what I saw was beyond my imagination...I was terrified...I was disgusted...there, Zainub was lying in the pool of her own blood and Rashid was standing with a knife in his hand. A woman was there too...Shireen...they were laughing. They'd just stabbed Zainub...she laid there life-less and my Asad...he was...he...he saw his own mother dying...being killed mercilessly..." Dilshad stopped as her body racked with sobs. Zoya went to her side and kept her hand on her shoulder. Dilshad looked at her with a soft look in her eyes.
"What happened then?" asked Humeira breaking their trance.
"I tried to take Asad out but he started crying. His sobs alerted Rashid and Shireen and they came out. I dragged Asad somehow and fortunately, they couldn't see me. As they were drunk they didn't realize that it was not just a twelve year boy but also me who saw their heinous act. They assumed that Asad ran away. That was what they wanted...to get rid of Zainub and Asad...so that he could marry Shireen. If he was at the house at that time...he would have died the same day too."
"I took Asad to his grandfather's house. His Nanajaan was terrified on hearing about Zainab. As he was a heart patient, he couldn't bear all this and went away to his daughter but not before writing all his fortune to Asad. Asad became the heir of 10 billions that he got from him. As soon as Rashid got to know this, he came to get back Asad and as he was his father I couldn't do anything. Rashid made a false story that Zainub ran away with someone. I wanted to slap him Zoya...I wanted him behind bars...but we'd no proofs...in order to save Asad that day, I left the place in such a hurry that I'd no proof that a murder took place there."
Dilshad stopped and found Zoya and Humi wiping their tears. Zoya was visibly pale. Dilshad brought her water and patted her head. "Do you want me to continue?" she asked looking at her state.
"yes Khala...how did he...I mean, what happened with him then?"
"He was forced to stay with them. Rashid married Shireen in name of giving Asad, mother's love. Being a witness to all this brutality, Asad withdrew himself from anything and everything. He became quiet and remained aloof. I came there frequently in pretext of meeting Asad and when his condition worsened they let me stay. I took him for check-ups and we got to know that he was suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder...a very severe case. His innocent mind couldn't bear all this Zoya...he couldn't take all this...when I was terrified by the event...imagine the impact that poor innocent soul had had!! He remained awake whole nights in row...he became anxious on even a small noise...even if I put to sleep somehow...he got up screaming for his Ammi."
"But Rashid couldn't kill him...because his grandfather's Will' stated that if something happened to Asad then all the property will be used for the welfare of a trust. So they kept Asad alive but he was tortured beyond your imagination Zoya...they couldn't let the world know that Asad was not in his senses...so he was not allowed to go out and that made him restless. They kept giving him electric shocks to keep him in control. His outdoor visits were banned and he was locked in his own home like a prisoner. I kept trying to look for some evidences but I couldn't...I tried to stop them but Zoya they tortured and bet Asad to stop me. I couldn't see him in pain."
"Somehow after all these years, they've come to know that I was also with Asad when they killed Zainub. They warned me that they'll harm Asad if I speak anything. They wanted to throw me out and hence they got him married to you, so that you can take care of him and they'll be free as ever. They thought you'll be a perfect choice because you belonged to a poor family who don't care for you and according to them you can't protest. I tried changing their minds, even begged to your parents...but no one listened to me...no one...Asad was apprehensive...he didn't want to leave the house, he was given an electric shock...to keep him under control...he was forcefully taken to your house and even he was forced to accept you as your wife."
Zoya stood up. She couldn't believe her ears...all that time she thought that he was a shy person and was hesitating to put a ring on her finger, reeled in front of her eyes, "They knew..?? My parents..." Dilshad nodded and walked up to her to take her in her embrace. "I tried sending you a letter but I guess you didn't get it..."
"I got it Khala...but my mother dismissed it as some prank...I also didn't pay much heed..."
Humeira was pacing here and there in anger, "I told you Zoee...I told you...your b***hy family isn't worth trusting. They traded you for money...how low could they stoop?? "
Dilshad asked in a weak voice, "I need your help Zoya...I-" But Humeira cut her off in a loud voice, "Don't you dare try to hook her up with that crazy...what do you think...she has no one...I'm with her and I won't let anybody touch her!!" she spoke with a finality in her voice.
"They won't let you go so easily Zoya...they won't! They'll find you out from anywhere. I'm not scaring you but telling you the truth...they're really influential." Dilshad said
"So what do you want?? That she'll live with him??? Him...he hit her...see what he did!!!" Humeira said pointing to the wound that Asad caused on Zoya's forehead.
"He's not like this always...he has xenophobia...ajnabi logon se darta hai woh...and besides, all this marriage rituals reminded him of his mother. He was restless all those days. When he saw you in his room at your first night, he was terrified...and he didn't hit you intentionally...I hope you understand...he is not in his senses. Please help me once to take him out of there...I won't ask for anything else. You can leave once all this is sorted out. Please..."
Zoya kept pondering...thinking about his innocent looks...his deep eyes that held so much...all that he had gone through...but why should she help him? What she'd ever got by thinking of others before her? She was in a deep dilemma. But at last, after few minutes of silence she made up her mind and spoke up, "I'll help you...tell me...what I have to do!!??"
