Chapter-4
"Randhir"
Randhir closed his eyes. His name suddenly sounded good to him after a long time. Nobody says it like her. He opened his eyes and tried to take her name but failed to say anything. None of them said a word but their eyes brimmed with unshed tears.
He kept holding her in his arms, while her hands started moving towards his face to touch, as if to confirm his presence in reality. Before her hands could reach his face, their intense eye-lock was broken by a deliberate coughing sound.
"Randhir, kuch teachers aa rahe hain." Said Parth looking at Randhir and Sanyukta both. Randhir didn't hear a word but kept looking at Sanyukta.
Hearing this, Sanyukta forcibly got down from his arms but his hands tightly clasped around her bare waist not letting her leave. Not this time.
"Randhir..mujhe jaane do." pleaded Sanyukta trying to free herself from his grasp.
"Chalo, tumhe mera naam to theek se yaad hai atleast." said Randhir in a sarcastic manner but his eyes never left her face. He felt like crushing her in his arms and kissing her senseless but he knew all this had to wait till he gets his answers.
"Please Randhir, you are hurting me!" said Sanyukta looking everywhere but him.
"I. AM.HURTING.YOU?" Randhir questioned in a rage that could have burnt the whole world into ashes. As she did not answer he shoved her away and walked out. As he neared the auditorium door he turned back and said to Sanyukta in a threatening manner.
"We are not finished. Aur bhaagne ke bare mein sochna bhi mat Sanyukta Aggarwal! Nahi to kal mere accident ki khabar newspapers ki headlines hongi." He moved out. But Parth was still standing there looking at Sanyukta as she walked out of the auditorium from its back door.
"PARTH!" Randhir screamed in a raging voice on which Parth went out behind Randhir. He wanted to walk up to Sanyukta but Randhir's condition prevented him from taking a step towards his once-a-best-friend Sanyukta. She was answerable to Randhir for a whole lot of things. He had seen Randhir losing his sanity when he was searching Sanyukta madly all those years. Had it not been for him and Vardaan Sir, he would have landed in some psychiatric ward. They need to sort this themselves now.
Parth went and sat in the car next to Randhir who was already in the driver's seat. As he settled, Randhir drove towards their hotel. He was gripping the steering wheel so tight that his knuckles had turned white. Parth knew he was trying to control his anger but was failing miserably. As soon as the car stopped he climbed down and threw the keys at the valet. As he was passing the reception, he paused and went to the receptionist and said in authoritative tone.
"Room ki kuch cheezein tut gayi hain mujhse to uska bill bhi add kar dena mere bill mein."
"Par room ki to safai abhi hui hai sir and attendant ne to aisa kuch nahi kaha ki koi cheez tuti hai inke room mein" asked the receptionist to Parth who was looking helplessly at his retreating back.
Parth kept banging the doors as he heard more and more sounds of breaking things.
"Randhir! Kya kar raha hai yaar! Open the door damnit!"
After an hour or so when the room fell silent, he tried the door again and this time it opened. As he entered inside, he saw everything smashed and Randhir sitting amidst all the shattered glasses.
His right hand was badly cut and was bleeding while he had his eyes closed.
"Randhir. What the hell?" said Parth as he took a towel and pressed it against his hand and dragged him out of the room.
As they were returning from the hospital after getting his hand stitched and bandaged, Parth was driving in complete silence while Randhir was looking outside.
"Sorry, I lost control." Randhir said in an apologetic tone.
"It's ok. Waise maine ek cottage book kar liya hai yahaan and hotel mein call karke hum dono ka samaan bhi wahaan shift karwa diya hai. Socha hum dono ki wajah se baaki hotel customers ki neend kyun haraam ho." Winked Parth in Randhir's direction on which Randhir gave him a faint smile.
"Tu thakta nahi hai mujhe sambhaalte-sambhaalte?" said Randhir looking out.
"Tujhe yaad hai, college mein tune Rana ko boxing ke liye challenge kiya tha and then you defeated him despite your serious injuries, just because he had hurt me. Us din mujhe bhi tujhe ye puchna chahiye tha." said Parth adjusting the GPS and driving towards their destiny.
Only God knew how she had managed to reach her home from school. As soon as she entered her house, she collapsed on the floor.
"Bibiji!" her maid servant cum friend cum companion came running towards her as she saw Sanyukta lying on the ground unconscious.
She hurriedly called the doctor who was treating her from the past 5 years and with a lot of difficulty made Sanyukta lay on her bed.
"Yukta beta, maine hazaar dafa tumhe kaha hai ki apne aap ko exert mat karo but tum sunti hi kahaan ho meri. It was a very fatal stroke. Tumhari jaan bhi ja sakti thi." Said Dr. Kher throwing the multiple injections in the dustbins.
"Ye jaan jaati bhi to nahi hai na uncle. Ab to jee ke bhi thakaawat hone lagi hai" said Sanyukta in a distant tone looking out of the window.
The doctor nodded in a dejected manner and went out knowing very well that it was of no use talking to her. She had no intention of living a long life. She was just waiting for her life to get over.
"Rani, ye khidki band kar de na?" said Sanyukta getting up from the bed to correct some exam papers.
"Bibiji, kuch khaane ko laaon kya?" said Rani as she closed the window.
"Nahi" said Sanyukta taking out the papers from her bag.
Rani looked at Sanyukta helplessly and went out of the room closing it softly behind her. As soon as she went out, Sanyukta bend down and took out a box from under her bed. Very carefully she emptied the contents on the bed. The box contained all of Randhir's pictures and interviews published in various newspapers and magazines from the past 8 years, all the gifts he had gifted her and the letters he had written to her when they were in college.
She picked up the recent picture of him on the cover page of Forbes and spoke to the picture as if speaking to him.
"I am sorry Randhir for hurting you again but agar aisa nahi karti to I would have ended up kissing you jo ab main afford nahi kar sakti. Waise lambe baalon mein bhi bahut handsome lag rahe the." said Sanyukta caressing the picture and smiling amidst tears in her eyes. She remembered the day when they broke their barriers and let each other into their hearts forever.

Canteen
"Kya hua Randhir? Apni MCP awaaz kahin par chod ke aaye ho ya mujhse darr gaye?" said Sanyukta for the umpteenth time trying to provoke Randhir.
But, he just got up from his seat and silently went towards the class.
"Randhir! Don't you dare walk out like that! Randhir!" she kept screaming behind his retreating back but he kept walking as if in some other world.
"Arey ! ye MCP ko hua kya hai? Do din ho gaye hum logon ko vacations se aaye huye but isne ab tak mujhe ek baar bhi na hi Farzi' bulaya, na hi mujhse jhagda kiya aur na hi mujhe taane maare." wondered Sanyukta and as she turned she saw Vardaan standing there giving Sanyukta a contemplative look.
"Kya hua Sanyukta Aggarwal? Puzzled? Astonished or happy ki Randhir tumse kuch nahi keh raha." Asked Vardaan settling himself on the chair in front of Sanyukta.
"Arey kuch nahi Sir. I am sure ye sab uski chaal hai. Dimaag mein kuch na kuch to chal hi raha hoga iske mujhe pareshaan karne ke liye ya mujhe neecha dikhaane ke liye. Bas sahi time ka wait kar raha hoga to strike back." Said Sanyukta and got up to leave for class when Vardaan's next sentence froze her on her spot.
"He has lost his father Sanyukta."
Sanyukta turned around but not a single coherent sentence formed in her mind to ask.
"He went to meet his father in the vacations but jab wo ghar pahuncha to wahaan taala laga hua tha and uske neighbours ne bataya ki wo hospital mein hai due to Liver failure. Jab tak Randhir hospital pahuncha, his father was no more. Uske friend Karan ne mujhe call kar ke bulaya. And you know the strangest part. Uski aankh se ab tak ek aansu nahi nikla hai us din se. He has lost the most and the only important thing in his life. Usne mujhe mana kiya tha kisi ko bataane se but I wanted you to know kyunki sirf ek tum hi ho jo usse koi reaction force karva sakti ho. He needs someone but wo bataega nahi. Khana peena to usne already chod hi rakha hai and I am scared ki agar aisa hi chalta raha to we will lose him. But I want my best student back Sanyukta. And I hope ki tumhe bhi apne mortal enemy cum helper ki kami khal rahi hogi. So do something and do it fast." Said Vardaan and left the canteen wiping the single tear that had escaped his eyes.
No! No! Ye nahi ho sakta. His father was the only person he loved in this world. Vardaan Sir's voice was echoing in her ears. We can't lose him. I can't lose him. She hurried to the class but found his seat empty.
"Jiggy, Randhir ko dekha hai?" asked Sanyukta to Jiggy who was busy with Kaustaki.
"Randhir Bhai to room gaye. Maine pucha to bole ki tabiyat theek nahi hai. Pata nahi kya ho gaya hai unhe?" said Jiggy.
"Aur tumhe koi farak nahi pada ki Randhir aisa behave kyun kar raha hai? You are useless Jiggy." She said and ran out of the classroom.
Without waiting she sprinted towards the boy's hostel. Since classes were going on so the whole hostel was empty. She carefully sneaked past the watchman who was busy taking a nap.
As she reached his room, her hand shivered to knock but she knocked and stood there waiting.
Randhir opened the door without a shirt on. He spoke without giving her a chance to speak.
"Parth kal aaega. Uske kisi relative ki shaadi hai." with this he was about to close the door when Sanyukta forced herself in.
"Main to tumse milne aayi thi. Tumhe kya lag raha tha ki mujhe pata nahi chalega." said Sanyukta as she closed the door. She knew that in a few minutes a lot of loud voices were going to erupt from this room.
"Please jao Sanyukta." Said Randhir in a pleading tone and went to the window and stood there looking out.
"I know you have lost your father." said Sanyukta as she slowly started decreasing the distance between them.
"Just get out Sanyukta!" said Randhir without turning back but the anger was evident in his voice.
"I am really sorry for your loss Randhir. Truly I am. I know aaj tak tumne sab kuch akele handle kiya hai but aaj tumhe kisi ki zarurat hai. You need a friend." said Sanyukta as she tried to hold his hand.
But before she could hold his hand he held her hand and shoved her aside.
"Tum meri friend nahi ho Sanyukta. So just leave me alone." Randhir said controlling his anger.
"Sahi kaha . Main tumhari friend nahi hun Randhir. Hum dono ek dusre ke liye usse kahin zyada hain. Itna to tum bhi maante ho na." said Sanyukta holding his hand.
He looked at their joined hands for a moment and then slowly slid his hand out.
"Isiliye keh raha hun door raho mujhse. Kyunki agar tumhe bhi kuch ho gaya to main..." Randhir stopped himself from blurting out any further and started walking towards the door.
But she blocked his way.
"Mujhse baat karo Randhir. Cheekho, chillao mujhpe. But avoid mat karo. Stop bottling your emotions inside you." said Sanyukta in an equally determined voice.
"Sanyukta! Aakhiri baar keh raha hun, chali jao yahaan se!" said Randhir glaring at her.
"Main bhi aakhiri baar bata rahi hun Randhir ki main nahi jaungi." said Sanyukta coming closer to him.
Frustrated he started hitting the wall of his room so hard that his hand started bleeding.
"Randhir! Bas karo! Khoon nikal raha hai tumhare haath se." said Sanyukta as she forcibly stopped him from hitting the wall and tied her scarf on it.
"Is deewar pe apna ghussa nikaal sakte ho but mujhe nahi bata sakte. Jab bhi mujhe zarurat padi hai, tab tum mere liye the Randhir. Tumne bina jataaye mere liye bahut kuch kiya hai. Aaj mujhe karne do Randhir. Let me be there for you." said Sanyukta in a pleading tone.
He snatched his hand away and shoved Sanyukta to the wall with force.
"Tumhe samajh nahi aata ek baar bolne se! Mujhe kisi ki zarurat nahi hai. Samjhi! Na tumhari, na papa ki, na mom ki, na kisi aur ki." He said screaming.
"Zarurat hai Randhir! Har kisi ko kisi ki zarurat hoti hai life mein. Tumhe bhi hai." she said trying to hold his shoulder.
But he pushed Sanyukta, due to which she fell on his bed and her hand hit the table really hard. She winced in pain but she was determined to break Randhir. She knew he would break down any moment. She turned and saw Randhir leaning on the wall. She got up and forcibly turned Randhir towards him and hugged him tightly.
Randhir tried to shove her away and push her away but she did not leave him and kept holding him. After 5 minutes of fruitless trying, he gave up and hugged her tightly as his tears found their way out and he spoke between his tears.
"Main bahut manhus hun Sanyukta isiliye sab mujhe chode ke chale jaate hain. Mom chali gayi aur ab papa bhi chale gaye. Mere paas koi nahi bacha. I am all alone in this world. Tum bhi mat aao mere paas warna tum bhi door ho jaogi mujhse."
Randhir couldn't stand anymore. And as he went on his knees he dragged Sanyukta with him too, but she dint leave him for even a second. All the emotions that he was controlling flowed out with his tears.
"Mujhe chod ke mat jaana kahin. I won't be able to survive that." said Randhir amidst his tears.
As soon as she heard this, she held him more tightly and closed her eyes feeling his pain. She just wanted to take away all his pain and give him all the happiness in this world even the ones she had. That is when she realized that he meant a lot more to her than she actually thought. Without thinking she spoke the next lines that came from her heart.
"Sab theek ho jaega. Main hun na tumhare saath. Main tumhe kabhi chod ke nahi jaungi Randhir. I will always be there for you. I love you Randhir. I love you a lot." Sanyukta whispered in his ear meaning every word of it.
Randhir closed his eyes, hearing this. This was the first time someone was saying these words to him. That too Sanyukta. She was crying for his pain. The love of his life. He had admitted it a long time back that he loved her but was scared to speak it aloud but Sanyukta's words gave him the lost hope back.
Both of them cried hugging each other for a long time. Sanyukta parted from him and held his face in her hands while his hands rested on her waist. She kissed both his cheeks wiping the tears away with her lips. She then kissed his forehead and then both his eyes. She then gave him a peck on his lips. That is when she realized what she did. She got up and turned to leave but Randhir held her hand and said in a defeated tone.
"Please mujhe chod ke mat jao Sanyukta. I need you."
She stood there motionless when Randhir came forward and held her from back. His hands encircled her waist and his forehead rested on her shoulder. As Sanyukta felt his tears soaking her top, she couldn't take it anymore. She turned around and peppered his face with countless kisses.
"Kahin chod ke nahi jaungi tumhe, I promise Randhir." She said wiping his tears.
He wiped her tears and smiled. They kept looking in each other's eyes when Sanyukta leaned forward and kissed him. Randhir's hands shifted from her face to her waist and held her in his embrace. The kiss started slow but within a matter of seconds it turned passionate. They were fighting for dominance. Randhir backed her to the wall. His right hand opened the clip that were holding her long tresses in place and threw it. His fingers entangled in her hair and he pulled it a bit to make her head bend back and he pulled her top off from her right shoulder exposing her milky white skin. He showered her neck and shoulder with wet kisses. As her nails dug into his bare back, he hissed in pain and bit the flesh near her collar bone hard. She winced in pain.
"Randhir bhai. Aap andar ho kya?" Jiggy's voice pulled them out of their passionate make out.
Randhir took deep breaths against her neck and parted from her.
"Haan bol Jiggy." Randhir said pulling Sanyukta's top back to its place as she still stood with her back to the wall and closed eyes.
"Wo Vardaan sir ne sabko bulaya hai lab mein. Aap aa rahe ho na?"Jiggy said enquiringly.
"Haan. Tu ja, maina aata hun." Said Randhir.
As Jiggy left, Sanyukta opened her eyes and found Randhir looking at her with a smile.
He wore his shirt and she straightened her dress and picked her bag from the floor.
Sanyukta opened the door and was about to walk out when Randhir called her out from behind.
"Oh Farzi, Saath mein chalein?"
She smiled and turned back. He picked his bag and went to her and held her hand and they walked towards the class like that. After that day they always walked like that hand in hand.
"Bibiji. Do log aaye hain. Keh rahe hain ki Dr.Kher ka cottage book kiya hai unhone." Rani said as she knocked her room.
"Aati hun." Said Sanyukta and went out to greet them.
"Hello. Main Yukta and aap..." She trailed as she saw the two people standing in front of her. She stood rooted to the ground not believing her eyes as Randhir walked to her with a smirk and whispered in her ear seductivey.
