CHAPTER 2

One tear , then another as Randhir looked at the lifeless body of his mother wrapped in a white sheet in front of him. Randhir shut his eyes tightly as he felt a myriad of emotions overtake him. He slowly got up and left the house with others to complete the last rites of his mother. Once everything was done he returned to the house and went straight to the terrace. He looked at the stars whispering I hope you are fine up there ,Mom.' He slowly shut his eyes and he saw a flashback of all the moments , happy or sad , he had spent with his mom. He shut his eyes and his mind wandered off to the day when his equation changed with his mom , all thanks to his pillar of strength and support who managed all this , his girl Sanyukta.

*FLASHBACK*

They reached the Sanyal villa . They walked towards the door and pressed the doorbell . Renuka sanyal opened the door and she met a sight which she would never forget, her son standing there, hand -in-hand with the girl whom she thought was a reflection of her own self . She asked them to come in. Sanyukta made an excuse and got up and went to the terrace leaving behind Randhir and his mother to talk and sort out their differences.

" Randhir beta , I have not called you here so that I can justify my wrongs. I know I have caused irreparable damage to you , but please understand that I too had my own reasons and the situation was so created that I had to go away. But please don't be harsh on me and forgive me for that.

Mom, can you pls tell me what went wrong that you had to leave me and dad , alone in the lurch?'

The person whom you love the most was himself the reason behind our separation . Yes, Your father Randhir. A little loss in the business and he started drinking. Drinking to such an extent that he soon drowned in this habit. If I had'nt taken over our business we would have been on the roads . Also , I would apologize to you for not being there on your birthdays, for not attending your parent teachers meetings, for not appreciating your talent and abandoning you when you were small. But trust me son , I was always there . Your father brainwashed you against me and soon he took divorce . He poisoned your mind against me but I had to choose between my family and career . I gave more attention to my career so that I could run this house and fulfill all your needs and make you an individual who will never have to feel weak in front of anyone. Please beta , forgive me. Please. and she broke down. She cried burying her face in her palms when she felt her sons arms around her embracing her and crying. She hugged him back and cupped his face and placed a kiss on his forehead.

Beta , I have one wish which only you can fulfill. Please don't put Sanyukta in such a situation as your dad put me in . Never put restrictions on her and most importantly, please love her and protect her till your last breath...'

I promise I will , Mom. And I love you mom and I missed you mom .

He slowly opened his eyes and walked towards his mother's room . He opened the door and entered the room . His Gaze felt on the picture which was hanging on the wall. It was a 8 year old Randhir with this mother. He leaned his head on the picture and let the tears come out once again. He stood there for almost an hour crying out his heart. He turned around and his gaze fell on the envelope kept on his mother's side table . It read To Randhir.' He sat on her bed and opened it slowly . He started reading the letter as his eyes welled up,

Dear Randhir beta ,

I know you must be very angry that I have left you here and gone away once again like I did years ago ,the only difference being that I won't come back this time. I'm sorry beta that I failed to be a responsible mother and that I could not live up to my promise to be there with you throughout your life. Please forgive me? But I know that my son is a responsible man who wills urely fulfill the last wish of his mother. Beta, I want you to fulfill the promise that you made to me 10 years back . Yes , the one about Sanyukta . Though you never told me the reason of your separation I being your mother know that you still love her . Please get her back in your life so that my soul can rest in peace as I know that If sanyukta is With you , you will be Alright . This is my last wish ...

PS - Open my drawer and take those pills . I know you catch cold when you cry a lot.

By the time Randhir finished reading the letter, his hands were shivering and he fell on his knees and cried his heart out. He felt weak and vulnerable . He picked up his mothers picture and held it tightly to his chest and cried himself to sleep.
