First sight?
"Mr.Banerjee.?" She called out to the kid's father with a big smile on her face. Mr.Banerjee seemed to come out of his trance as the worry lines on his forehead were replaced by a slight unsure smile on his face. His eyes were getting teary. He closed his eyes for a moment trying to make peace with his overworked mind and settled himself on the bench in the waiting room. Looking up at her standing beside him with a smile and a nod which indicated that his baby girl was now free from all the pain she had suffered made his unsure smile a little more bright.
"You go inform your wife Mr.Banerjee.. I'll see if you can meet her." He mouthed a small trembling thank you and watched her leave the waiting room.
"Go home Riddhima."
She looked up to see Kunal , her senior and also a good friend , standing in front of her with a few files in his hand and an irritated look on his face. And here comes the Hitler , she thought. Riddhima wasn't calling him a hitler because he was a senior.. Absolutely not.. He was bearable ..actually he was real adorable and amazing as a senior doctor but as a friend the guy was an irritating daft . But she couldn't have thanked her stars enough to have him as her attending. He was a great guy and was really sweet. The love he had for kids and the way he treated them with so much care and affection always intrigued her. She still remembered how apprehensive she was when she had talked to him the first time. Being the new intern in the hospital wasn't something easy. Though she had been here a lot during her childhood days what with her father being the dean of the hospital but it was still awkward for her since she was going to be an employee now and not just a kid roaming about playing with the nurses and doctors while her father would be busy in some surgery. And she had masked her nervousness really well but Kunal had seen through the bright smile , the fear in her eyes. His constant tries on making her feel comfortable around everyone had been the ice breaking moment for them and since then they had been really good friends.
"I'll just complete these reports first and then head home," she replied with a smile.
"You haven't slept since two days and I don't want you sitting here in the OPD anymore. Go home now before I go call Anjali." If she was going to be adamant he knew how to convince her into giving up. And threatening her with Anjali's name , her elder cousin who was also a doctor in the hospital , was the only way. Riddhima had once overworked herself and that had resulted into her getting sick and staying at home for two days and boy was Anjali angry. She had given an earful to Riddhima and when she was done with her she had also fired poor Kunal for not taking care of his interns. Anjali was very protective towards Riddhima since she was her baby sister and was the only one who could scare Riddhima.
"Atul.?" he asked her grinning and she grinned back nodding her head slightly. Atul Joshi , her Di's boyfriend and to-be-husband , was a sweet guy and also an amazing cardiologist in Sanjeevni. Anjali and Atul were head over heels in love with each other. Riddhima sometimes wondered how they fell in love. Because Anjali and Atul were two antithetical people. If Anjali was stubborn and strong headed then Atul was sweet and adjusting. Maybe that is why they were perfect for each other. Because they balance each other. And also isn't it how they say - opposites attract.
"Well.. I'm glad they're getting married. They'll be together all the time at home. Atleast then I won't be entering their cabins to be scandalized to see them clinging to each other," he said scrunching his nose remembering those numerous times when he had entered their cabins only to see them glued to each other. It wasn't like Anjali and Atul to be public about their affection and to think of it , it wasn't even public.. they were in their own cabins and Kunal had been the one stepping in without knocking. But who was to convince Kunal about that? For him he could never be wrong ! And Anjali and Atul were wrong to be with each other in their personal time and personal cabins. Yes , they were wrong !
"Go tell her to be a little more careful then. They could've atleast locked the door. You have no idea how-"
"I'm leaving.. Complete these reports fast and leave the hospital. I don't want to see your boring face anymore," Kunal said getting up from the chair.
"I don't have a girlfriend. I've got some work. See you later." He muttered the last two sentences and left the cabin in a hurry leaving a giggling Riddhima behind. She had been really excited and anxious when she had heard him talking on the phone one day and he had sounded so polite and sweet that she was sure there was some major gadbad. Because Kunal and chivalry were two words which would never be in one single sentence. And the next day when she had questioned him about the call he was all red and wouldn't talk to her the entire day which had approved all her doubts. But she was still confused as to why he wasn't agreeing to being in a relationship. It wasn't like they'd disapprove of it or something. He had introduced them to some of his girlfriends before then what was wrong this time!? She had later shrugged it off thinking it was his personal matter and his wish.
"Hey Nikki ! I'm leaving.. See you on Monday." Riddhima smiled at Nikki who was studying some case file sitting on the sofa in their cabin. She had just finished her work and was here to fetch her bag and mobile . Nikita looked up from her file and frowned.
"Go away from here."
Riddhima looked at her confused ,"What.?"
"Not you.. Him.!" She turned around to come face to face with a fuming Abhi who had just entered the cabin.
"Why would I come to meet her.? As if I don't have anything else to do." Abhi retorted rudely.
"Then what are you doing in the residents cabin.? As far as I remember we're just four residents and you are not one of us. So just get lost." Nikki stood up from the couch while dramatically throwing the file on the table.
"Riddhima tell her not to shout. I am her senior and she'd better respect me," he told Riddhima but his gaze still glued at Nikki .
"Riddhima , tell this moron to leave right now. He can go flirt with the I.C.U nurses in their locker room. They don't come in the residents' cabin." Nikki shouted back , murderously glaring at Abhi.
Riddhima looked at Abhi first and then Nikki .. She wasn't listening to them anymore. She couldn't. Her ears were hurting with the loud shouting. Just when she was about to stop them she heard another voice , "Oye donkey.. Just stop stalking me and leave me alone," entering the cabin. Riddhima closed her eyes in defeat when she saw an infuritated Muskaan enter the cabin with an equally infuriated and irritated Rahul right behind her.
"Pagal hai kya Muskaan.? Even if you were the last woman alive I wouldn't stalk you," came Rahul's immediate retort.
"These women. They live in this bubble where they think all we do is stalk them. Have you ever tried looking at the mirror.? You'd actually realize how wrong you are," Abhi supported Rahul giving him a meaningful look.
Kunal entered the cafeteria and noticed Riddhima sitting on a table all alone smiling aimlessly while sipping her coffee.
"Oye heroine! What's wrong.?" Riddhima was startled at first but realizing it was Kunal she glared at him. Kunal who was leaning on the table stopped grinning when he saw her glare and stood straight ,
"What's wrong with you.? One minute you're smiling and the next you're glaring," he complained.
"I am absolutely alright.. Why can't you just go talk to your girlfriend rather than irritating me.?" she asked him with a saccharine smile.
"Cause I don't have one. And why didn't you go home.?" He was really annoyed with this girlfriend issue Riddhima had brought up now-a-days. Everytime she talked to him she had to bring it up.
"I was just leaving and then I did the biggest mistake of going into the cabin.. WW3," Riddhima said while massaging her forehead trying to ignore the throbbing pain. She had a headache. A severe headache , but Kunal didn't have to know that cause if he'd find out then the chamcha will go tell her Anjy Di and that was the last thing she'd wish for. It wasn't like Anjali would get worried because Riddhima had a headache . She's not some psychotic overprotective sister but she'd definitely shout at her for not going home when she clearly didn't have any work left. Also , she really wanted the rest of the day to go well and a headache wasn't just going to spoil it.
"Sorry!"
"I don't understand Abhi and Nikki..Why don't they just go and tell their parents that they don't want to get married. We'll be saved from this roz ka drama. Ek toh your sister and that Joshi who can't stop being all lovey-dovey and then those two riots ,Muskaan and Rahul ,who can't stop thinking of how to murder the other. Sanjeevni and it's love stories." Kunal sighed melodramatically while sitting down. Riddhima smiled at what he said , "And also tu aur teri mysterious girlfriend," she couldn't help but add that cheekily yet a little disturbed at that voice and the stupid intern who was now walking around the cafeteria all dreamy dreamy.

Starting off, in this post I'll comment about prologue and honestly speaking, I loved prologue more than your chapters, probably since it was so freaking philosophical.
They are momentary. Hours and hours of hard work and all it takes is a wave to wash it away.
So true, we work all our life, do so many sacrifices, experience variety of emotions taking us to zenith, just to loose it all one day, but then, the memories of that journey is what keeps us alive. It is those memories that give us courage and content to go ahead on another journey.
Sure there's a tad bit of sadness on seeing the destruction of the hard work and love put in but what really counts is the happiness that was experienced while making it. The ecstasy and excitement that saturates the heart and mind while building it is what stays after the sabotage and not the memory of a broken state of the castle. Cause the castle can be made again. And all those heart-warming moments can be experienced again. Just like in life.
You have so innocently put in big deals of life in those lines (And to say that you call yourself a lame writer -_-). Seriously baccha, from where did you learn to be so delusional? Anyways, that's my favourite line of the prologue.
The integral thing is that nothing stays but it doesn't mean that's the epilogue of the story rather the prelude whereupon you get up and live and after some days come back and make that sandcastle again. With splashing waters and giggling laughter. Cause that's what counts. Not the effort or the despair. But the happiness and the serenity of the moment with the zephyr on the beach and sands golden and the waters sapphire.
True, nothing but change is constant, and we have to do with those memories we get. They may turn painful or be soothing, may be funny or be anguished, but the fact remains the same - it's those memories that count and not that if the journey is still there or not (Take this line personally).
This doesn't mean our life ends up here and we stop moving ahead. We sit back, cry, wipe off our tears and then get back at life, continuing it like any other day yet with a difference.
I can't find an apt word to tell you how much I loved the prologue. That was just something else. The way you compared life to a sandcastle is superb. Now, I want to read something Philosophical by you pretty soon.
Seesh, our family is full of writers. Hardly is there anyone who doesn't write.😆

Blessed.. Is it !?
"Bull's eye.." Armaan hi-fived the kid who had just made a perfect basket but failed to notice that the other kids had decided to throw the spare ball in the opposite direction of the hoop and it had hit someone.
Riddhima had left the taxi a few blocks away since she wanted to have a small evening walk. Yeah crazy but that's exactly how she is. It was almost seven and the atmosphere was calm and breezy which had lifted her already good mood. She was walking taking in the cold weather when suddenly she felt something hard hit her shoulder. It hadn't hurt much but when she heard someone's voice in the background she frowned. Picking up the ball which was now lying on the ground she scanned the basket ball court filled with a bunch of kids and a guy dressed in white shirt and blue denims. She had never really interacted much with the kids in colony but they used to get together during festivals and play and enjoy so she knew some of these children. But the guy didn't really look familiar. Only if he'd turn around! His side image was , well , she'd rather not say it cause man if he shows her his face she'll be left with no words to describe him. But when she saw the guy hi-five the kid for having hit her with the ball her long forgotten headache came back with irritation and anger tagged along. How dare he! The audacity of that guy to hit her and then make fun of it.!
Riddhima fumed with fury at his statement. How could someone be so shameless ? Who does he think he is. She started walking inside the court while dribbling the ball not taking her eyes off her current dushman trying her level best to kill him with her glares. Armaan was confused at the way she was looking at him. That was new! Generally girls would check him out in the first sight and here she was , glaring at him for no good reason? Is she some sort of psychopath.
With her gaze still glued at her rival not losing the eye contact she threw the ball just when she was in front of him and thud.. The ball went straight into the hoop. A grin adorned Riddhima's face when she heard the ball hit the ground while her eyes were still stuck on the blue ones in front of hers. Armaan raised his brow appreciatively. Before he could say anything the silence around them was broken by a kid he was previously playing with. The kid came close to where they were standing followed by his gang of little pranksters and said in a low voice , "Sorry didi.. Woh ball aapko hamari wajah se lagi," with his head lowered. Armaan seemed to finally understand what was going around. She had thought that he was the one who hit her and after what he had said she must've thought he did it on purpose. As if he didn't have a life! And he was just waiting to hit her with a basketball! Riddhima on the other hand smiled sweetly at the kid , "It's absolutely alright Rohit.. It wasn't your fault.. Hota hai," she said trying to assure him that it really was alright. Rohit , the eight year old , smiled back when he heard his Riddhima didi. He gestured her with his hand to come down to his height since he had to tell her something. Confused , Riddhima knelt down on the court and raised her eyebrows curious as to what secret he was about to reveal. She was left surprised when Rohit went ahead and gave her a small kiss on her cheek. The smile on her face seemed to grow wider at what just happened.
"You! You think you're very smart-" she started with her tirade but was stopped mid-way by Armaan , "I don't 'think' Basket.. I am smart," with a sly smile on his face.
It infuriated Riddhima at how irritating the guy was! But what irritated her most was how he had referred to her as 'Basket'!? What the hell!
"Smart.? Shakal dekhi hai apni.. The stray dogs in the next lane look more smart than you! And ho kaun tum! Hoop uss taraf hai aur maar dusri taraf rahe ho. Mr.Karjat Kasara." somehow she was still of the view that mr.i'm-so-hot here was the one at fault cause the kids would never do something like that. Also even if he wasn't at fault who the hell goes ahead and encourages children to hit people? He had successfully gotten onto her nerves cause Riddhima hadn't used the 'Karjat-Kasara' on anyone since fifth grade. Also that was another story altogether. She hadn't meant to say something like that but having heard the phrase just days back she was tempted to show off her great conversational knowledge and had ended up saying that to a friend referring to a classmate as Karjat- Kasara cause the poor guy had this habit of saying something and doing something completely opposite. It didn't really fit the term perfectly but who cared as long as she was getting to use a fancy term! And it was quite eventful cause the friend she was talking to had turned out to be that guy's sister and what followed was well embarrassing back then but now that she thinks of it it was quite funny.
"Nahh Basket.. you know you want me and i know that too so let's just drop the act shall we?"
Riddhima wanted to shout in exasperation but she couldn't . Talk about life being unfair! And his goofy grin wasn't helping her mind to be calm at the moment. For some weird reason all she wanted to do was pull her hair out or better his , to make the irritation go away but sanity seemed to be coming back to her as she realized she didn't want to drag this conversation any further. She wanted to reach home early and just sleep to make up for the two days she had spent in the hospital working her ass off. Also the guy looked like some bigda hua moron with that attitude and it'd be a waste of time arguing with someone like him. She started walking out of the court glaring a last glare confusing her temporary dushman all the more. Armaan looked at her retreating self with that.. What's that thing? Dupatta.. Yeah.. With her dupatta flowing in the wind behind her and made a derisive face. He then looked at the kids who had been silent the entire time. Suddenly they burst out laughing their heads off at his confused face! Armaan glowered at them but they wouldn't stop laughing at all. He was a little embarrassed to have fought in front of kids that too with a stranger who was apparently a lot strange. The embarrassment on his face was replaced by a slight smile when he remembered how they had fought just minutes back. Even though she was fighting or rather glaring the entire time there was this innocence on her face which had made him retort back just so he could talk to her a bit. There was this weird curiousness to get to spend some time with her and fight like some five year old. All he wanted to do was irritate her. Cause it was so much fun. Also, she had fought with him even though she had appreciated his looks when she had first glanced at him. He could see it in her eyes. Her eyes that had captivated him the first time she had glared. It's funny how she was angry the entire time and all he could think was how he'd just want to sit and stare ! Shaking his head at the path his thoughts were taking he came out of his 'praising the stranger' self.
Well , he was satisfied knowing atleast his looks still work!
