Khushi breathed a sigh of relief taking off her shades and coming out of the airport after a never ending flight. She shivered due to the cool breeze and cursing herself for the nth time on not wearing something warm, she got into a cab and waited for the driver to load her luggage and closed her eyes due to the weariness. The flight from Canada to London was exhausting and she couldn't wait to get into the comfort of the cozy bed and sleep. These days were so tiring especially with all the paperwork of her transfers and shifting to an altogether different country that Khushi didn't have time to sleep a wink. There was always this or the other thing left to do. On the other hand, excitement was a whole different story. Recently, because of her sheer hard work, she had been promoted to the post of marketing head in the London branch of her office. A fabulous job in a wonderful city, a new apartment from the office and a break of two weeks was more than she had wished for. Khushi was on cloud nine and couldn't wish for more.
Plus she was going to meet Arnav after whole freaking 6 months. She had last seen him when he came to Canada for his successful launch and was so busy that they didn't get to spend much time like they used to. True they had hung out for lunches and dinners and she also went to ball dance with him but still it wasn't the same given to both of their hectic schedules. She had also gotten a chance to meet the Aman who could handle the famous ASR wrath and they had become good friends with him always messaging her that his tolerance level had reached its peak due to ASR's tantrums and her comforting him that all will be fine. Their conversations went from Arnav to work to daily routine and back to Arnav.
Khushi sighed thinking about Arnav. Sometimes you need lifetimes to understand a person but sometime only some moments are enough. They had known each other for two years and although they lived in different countries, they had still managed to keep up with one another. To be honest, only she knew how she put up with that angry young man faade of his but beyond that she knew he had a heart of gold and she was glad that she was one of few who could see the real Arnav. He was her friend, a very good one but there was always this thing that surrounded them that made Khushi think if they could be something more than being just good friends.' He was a handsome man, there was no doubt about that but the aura that surrounded him was what made him completely different from the other men she had seen. Moreover, it was his protectiveness for her that she had come to love over these years she had known him. She didn't know what it was between them and frankly she didn't want to discover it too spoiling the equation they shared. If it's meant to be then it'll happen, she thought in an attempt to calm down her rapid heartbeat.
Her thoughts came to a halt with the screeching of the cab in front of her hotel and she quickly got out handing him the money and asked a bell boy standing nearby to help her with the luggage. Rubbing her hands together to create some warmth, she walked over to the elegantly decorated reception and asked for her keys. Opening the room, she had eyes only for the queen sized bed splayed with a white quilt and in no time she was on it, snoring away as sleep took over her. All other things could wait!
Chapter 2:
Khushi sat looking at the stars twinkling in the night. She loved to watch them for some reason. May be it was because they looked so tiny but still managed to give you bright light, or because you could look them for hours and couldn't get bored or simply because they were beautiful. Admiring them, she thought of the events that followed today when she had gone to meet Arnav at his office. First of all, he knew! He freaking knew that she was going to give him an amazing surprise which was now nothing but a failed attempt because it was ruined by the man himself.
*Flashback*
As soon as she entered the office she was enveloped in a friendly embrace followed by a shriek of "Khushiii" and before she could even utter a single hi to this stupid friend of her, he had started ranting. "Khushi. God I have been trying to contact you since the time you landed. Where were you? We were so worried."
She shook her head at this stupid friend of hers and started speaking when something struck her. "Yeah I was really tired so didn't bother to check...wait, WHAT? How did you know that I was coming here?"
"Well you know...um I was..." He shifted on his feet restlessly under the scrutinizing gaze of Khushi who looked none other than the lady version of ASR.
"He was checking on you because I told him to." A deep husky voice interrupted them and turning towards the source, she said in low dangerous voice raising her eyebrows and folding her arms under her chest. "Explain!"
"Before you start charging at me, we shall take this to my office." Narrowing her eyes at him she looked around the office only to see the employees staring at her like she was some alien and smiled sheepishly only to be guided by him towards his office. All this time she was muttering under her breath how she had planned to take him by surprise and how it went the other way round. He had only chuckled at that and after receiving a death glare, kept mum not to rile her up some more.
Arnav had told her how she was unavailable at the phone two days ago and he had called at her office only to know that she was going to shift here. Only after a puppy dog faced Arnav had said sorry, she had forgiven him and gotten what she was best at- talking. Like a Rajdhani express, in a short time of their lunch, she had updated him on what was going on in her life and he had listened to all her rants, complaints, silly talks with a content smile on his face. What was better than having your best friend back?
All was well until Khushi's living arrangements had come in view. Just like many things, she had also blurted out that she was going to live in a hotel for three weeks until she joins the office and they give her the assigned apartment. Since then there was no stopping Arnav. He had asked her to live with him till then and she had immediately denied but how can Khushi or anyone for that matter say no to those chocolate caramel orbs looking to her oh so innocently? But even melting her heart twice, making her heart skipping a beat thrice and knocking the breath out of her when he uttered a please' in his sexy voice, Khushi was adamant. He had then tried on a different tactic, tricking her into taking him to her hotel room, he had asked her to pack everything up or he was going to call Aman to bring his luggage over there. Fuming, Khushi had agreed to stay at his house and hadn't talked for a single moment to him to drive back to his home. He had left her and after making sure she was comfortable, left for work promising to come back early.
*Flashback ends*
So here she was, sitting in the balcony of Arnav's apartment and waiting for him to come home. The nerve of that guy to order her like she was his P.A. Aane do usko, choron gi nahin and it was as if God had heard her, the doorbell rang bringing a mischievous smile on her face. Arnav didn't have a slightest idea what had he gotten himself into or did he?
Teaser:
Khushi started laughing and Arnav couldn't help but stare at her. Such infectious laughter she had which made his lips curve upward on its own accord. When another drop of water fell on his eyes, only then he came back to his senses and forgetting everything shouted: "Khushi ki bachi, aaj nahin choron ga tumhen."
"Pehle pakad toh lo budhu." She retorted, sticking her tongue out and started running when she saw him approaching her with a payback glint in his eyes. They were running around the living room when Arnav trapped her between the couch and him. She shook her head vigorously and pleaded with puppy dog eyes but there was no stopping him today. Closing her eyes, she was about to take a step back when her foot slipped and she landed on the sofa taking Arnav with her.
Chapter 3:
Arnav entered the house to find it abnormally quiet. Well it was always like this and he was used to it but with Khushi, he was actually expecting to at least see her furious self-pacing back and forth waiting for him. He had to literally force her into living with him. What was the use of living in a freaking hotel when you had your best friend in the same city? What are friends for, then? He started going towards Khushi's room when he read the "DO NOT DISTURB ME ANYMORE OR I'LL KILL YOU" sign and shook his head in amusement at the pagal but cute girl. Deciding to get back to her after freshening up, he started towards his room and opened the room only to hear the SPLASH and everything went numb for a few seconds. Obviously, you'll go numb when you'll be sloshed with icy cold water in the winters of December. Recovering from the initial shock and frozen state, he turned to see Khushi standing there giving away an innocent expression battling her eyelashes. He narrowed his eyes at her only to her her tut clicking her tongue and trying to bite back the bubbling laughter inside her. When moved a step towards her, his feet made a funny sound because of which Khushi started laughing her heart out and Arnav couldn't help but stare at her.
Khushi gasped with the sudden weight on top of her and when she realized what or rather who it was, she nearly fainted. It wasn't that she had hit her head somewhere but it was the intimate position they were in and yet none of them were ready to leave each other completely lost in each other's eyes. Every freaking animal in the world was dancing in her stomach and her heartbeat had rose to an abnormal rate. She felt Arnav's both hands at her waist and his face barely an inch away from her, and she felt like her breath had almost stopped. The way he was looking at her with those gorgeous caramel orbs making her toes curl was too much to handle so when abruptly got up from her, she was thankful. She didn't want to die this young from a heart attack, did she? She was still in the same position when she realized how stupid she might look with hands in the air which were holding his biceps moments ago. She then gathered herself, taking a deep breath and faced Arnav.
Her eyes. They were hazel and once he had looked into them, he couldn't look away but when he did, his heart skipped a beat. He had never observed her so closely and now when he did, he was captivated by the beauty of this girl. Her innocent eyes, cute little button nose which had turned red, and her lips which looked so inviting. He tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and saw her closing her eyes. He was about to lean in but something stopped him. No, this wasn't right. She was his best friend and even imagining things like that were way out of line.
Dammit, he cursed himself getting up and ran a hand through his hair frustrated at the sudden turn of events. Why did he act like this? The question would have made him crazy but then his chain of thoughts was broken with a deep sigh and he realized that he wasn't alone. Heck what happened minutes ago was the proof of that. He turned around with an uncertain expression and was shocked. Shocked at seeing the brightly smiling Khushi. Did she not realize what had happened or did she want to play dumb and ignore what conspired moments ago? He thought.
"Urm...I..." Arnav stammered unsure of what to say to make her feel better or at least make things less uncomfortable between them.
"I know I am beautiful but I didn't know that I could make the ever confident ASR stutter. Relax! It's okay and it happens. I don't want to discuss it so can we please get over it already?" Khushi finished off chirpily and waited for his response with fingers crossed. It was true, she didn't want to talk about it. It would only embarrass them and things would get from awkward to more awkward. She saw him opening and closing his mouth and then recovering he said: "Gladly."
He was happy that she wasn't over reacting and creating a mountain out of a molehill. He smiled at her and they proceeded towards the dining table where Khushi had prepared delicious food. Relishing in the taste of homemade food after a very long time, Arnav literally licked his fingers and said:
"You should be a chef. The food's amazing."
Khushi giggled seeing him enjoying the food like a small kid and shook her head. No matter how much of a ruthless businessman he was out there in the world, he was still a young boy who devoured home cooked food. Finishing off with dinner, she was about to pick up the plates when Arnav stopped her and said that the housekeeper will do it tomorrow but when has Khushi ever agreed to anyone else? So here they were with Khushi washing the dishes and Arnav wiping drying them. After finishing off, they retired to their rooms and slept after having a long and hectic day.
NOTE:
I'm really sorry that this chapter isn't up to the standard but this is the best I could come up with right now. My schedule is jam-packed and I didn't want to be so late in updating so bear with me please. 😔
CHAPTER 4:
Next morning was quite the opposite as both of them had thought. Whereas Arnav and Khushi were expecting it to be uncomfortable and awkward, they both had very easily forgotten the moment that happened between them and so here they were having breakfast with each other and yet again fighting like kids similar to most of the times they were together. The thing was that Khushi wanted to tour around the city and Arnav was busy with back to back meetings. Though Khushi had insisted that she was old enough to roam around on her own but Arnav, being the more stubborn one from the duo, paid no heed to her words and declared that they will go together, which wasn't possible due to the tight schedule he had, or she won't go at all.
After breakfast, when Arnav went back to his room to collect his things, he thought about Khushi who was fuming by now. He had clearly stated that she wasn't going alone in a new city just like that. Why couldn't she understand that it wasn't safe for her? She didn't know anyone here. Sure, she was living alone in Canada but she was at least familiar with the freaking roads there. As much as he liked the independent Khushi, he was also worried about her safety and so he had sternly told her that she was to stay at home until she gets accustomed to the city. He shook his head and dialed a number smiling at the control this girl had over him.
Leaning over at the doorframe, he saw Khushi pacing around the living room while muttering under her breath which sounded like that annoying nickname she had given him, Laad governor. He cleared his throat and as expected Khushi turned around giving her an accused glare narrowing her eyes when she noticed something different and looked at him from head to toe, her mouth forming three O's as usual when she was surprised. Squealing and jumping up and down in excitement, she grinned widely at him while he shrugged saying:
"Well I can't go out in formals, can I?"
"Considering the workaholic you are, you certainly can." Came her cheeky reply and giving him a quick hug, she dashed towards her room to get ready not allowing him to speak any further. Mouthing a paagal, he remembered the phone call he made to Aman.
Flashback
"Good Morning ASR. How are you? I hope you are doing well and I also know that you are going to cancel all of your meetings today because obviously you have a very special guest over at your place." Aman exclaimed in a cheerful voice with a hint of teasing in between and Arnav could only utter his infamous phrase and think whether Aman was a mind reader or what.
"What the...how do you know that I'll ask you to change my schedule?"
"As if you called to ask me about my health."
"Why don't I fire you when I know how much of a pain in the ass you are?"
"Because you love me, ASR. Okay now bye. I have to handle all the employees who have fainted due to the news of their boss not coming." Aman hung up on him and for the umpteenth time, all Arnav could do was wonder on what kind of lunatics surrounded him. The prominent examples of the same being one in his office and the other one at his house.
Flashback ends.
He was brought back to the present by the click of the door and he looked at Khushi, ready to go and smiled at her childlike excitement. And for the first time ever, he also noticed how beautiful she looked while smiling. Clearing his mind of such thoughts, he opened the door for her and together they went-to explore the city.
