PRECAP: Sanyukta Aggarwal comes to Delhi looking for a job. And she gets into one of the biggest companies In the country. But before joining, she accidently meets one of the colleagues at a caf, Randhir Singh Shikhawat. Not knowing, they bond immediately only to find out the truth a few days later. SanCorp has strict office policy against relationships with colleagues. Sanyukta also happens to come in terms with a dark truth about her roommate, a freelance lawyer Kaustuki Jin.

Kaustuki entered the apartment after twenty minutes. "Phew!" she said. "No grocer had brown bread. Had to walk a mile to another departmental store to actually get a pound."

Sanyukta was sitting on her bed, still. She was looking straight at Kaustuki. "What happened?" asked Kaustuki. "Still brooding over the film's moral or something?" and she smiled.

"No, actually I have this question for you", said Sanyukta. "See, ma had called me today in the office. One of our family friends is having a problem. Sarita aunty has made a will for her two children. However, due to some misfortunes, she wants to disown her older son from the will. So ma was asking if it is possible to do so because you see, the will has already been made."

Kaustuki looked at Sanyukta, a little confused and replied, "Yes, I suppose it is possible."

"Suppose?" asked Sanyukta.

"I mean yes, it is possible", she confirmed, looking away from Sanyukta and keeping the bread on the dining table.

"Dekho Kaustuki", said Sanyukta, getting up. "Ma knows that I live with a lawyer and so she was asking for some legal advice that would help Sarita aunty with this matter."

Kaustuki looked at Sanyukta, a little scared. "But I am a freelance lawyer. You should talk to some firm or something, one with a lot of experience and stuff. If you want, I can give you some contacts."

"Oh yes, like that firm, Singhania/Sharma. But this is a petty matter, I'm sure you can handle this on your own and solve the case. Won't you do this for me, please?" requested Sanyukta.

Kaustuki did not know what to say. She was twitching. "But right now I am busy with a case already Sanyukta, try and understand please", she said.

"Oh yeah, that big and powerful man right?" said Sanyukta. "Any chance I know this person..."

Kaustuki's heart skipped. She looked straight at Sanyukta, whose eyes were focused on Kaustuki.

"Arrey! How would you know this man?" asked Kaustuki. "Don't talk strange stuff Sanyukta."

"Strange? So Singhania/Sharma? What is your connection?"

Kaustuki was worried. She feared that Sanyukta had probably seen through it. But she tried to divert the topic as much as possible. "Why are you so concerned about this law firm and my work Sanyukta?"

"Why? You happen to know everything about mine don't you?"

"Yes, but you told them willingly to me. I never asked you about it."

Sanyukta stood up from her bed. "So is that how we are planning to proceed with this? Fine enough. So I had a little time in hand while you were away at the groceries. I searched for this law firm, Sighania/Sharma and I looked into the associates figured you might be there..."

"Why would you do that? I told you I am an independent lawyer," said Kaustuki.

"I just wanted to check out this law firm everyone keeps talking about. So anyways, I looked at the list of the junior partners, senior associates, junior associates and secretaries. Your name, like you said, is not there. But then y eyes fell on this private investigators' list and I was just so curious about finding out. And what a co-incidence...your name and picture just happened to be there."

Kaustuki lost words. She struggled for them but could not say anything. She just stared at Sanyukta, unable to say anything at all.

"What happened Kaustuki? I always thought lawyers and PIs were supposed to be two different people. But clearly you make a beautiful exception", said Sanyukta and stormed into the kitchen.

Kaustuki followed. "Sanyukta listen to me please". She begged.

"No!" screamed Sanyukta, almost making Kaustuki jump to her feet. "I have always listened to everyone in my life, trusted them and every time, every time they have turned out different. Different than I thought they would be. I cannot, rather do not, need an explanation now from you."

"Sanyukta please listen. I was careless and I could not pass my bar exam. Singhania/Sharma was kind enough to hire me as a private investigator and gave me cases..."

"Just clarify something for me", said Sanyukta. "Were you...did you know I was coming here? And please give me a direct and honest answer this time Kaustuki."

"They told me that they found a way for me to get information on Vardhan Shukla. They gave me this address and told me to stay as a tenant and get information..."

"And what is this mess and craziness with Vardhan sir?"

"Sanyukta, I know you don't believe me but if you knew what kind of man Vardhan is, the things he has done to get where he is today, you'd..."

"You're right", said Sanyukta slowly. "I really don't believe you". And saying this, Sanyukta took and apple out of the fridge and went inside her bedroom and shut the door hard.

She fell on the floor, devastated. The only person who thought as genuinely her friend and understood her turned out to be no different. Why was this happening to her? It seemed that God had given all the trouble and misery available to her. She started crying but she knew it was not going to make things easier for her. Crying ever helps or it would have helped the first time she cried in Delhi: after knowing whom Randhir really was.

She had hardly finished the apple that she fell asleep.

When Sanyukta came out of the room the next day, early morning, Kaustuki was nowhere to be seen. At first, she thought that she had left the apartment. But she saw her things lying around which meant that she had only gone out so that Sanyukta could come out and leave for work without them having an awkward moment or worse, another apologetic and explanative conversation. Sanyukta quickly got dressed and locked the apartment from outside.

Work seemed completely void to Sanyukta. Jiggy was back and hugged her. "Thank God the suspension did not stretch long. I was beginning to think I had almost lost my damn job! He smiled. Sanyukta just smiled from outside. Inside she was completely broken. She stayed inside her office doing the frustrating paperwork, which, today, did not seem so. She wanted more and more work. She just wanted to bury her misery into her work. She did not plan to go home. She could not face Kaustuki again. After everything that had happened. Vardhan sir gave everyone individual project work. No one wanted to work on weekends, but Sanyukta was glad she got them. She planned to work on them that night itself by staying back. She even began to search for cheap hotels she could check in to for the night.

Amidst everything, Randhir noticed Sanyukta's sudden isolation and was curious. He swore he saw a tear roll down her eyes and wanted to know why. Whenever he got the chance he pretended to take a coffee break and strolled near her office. He thought of going in and asking her what was wrong with her today, but neglected the thought immediately. He had issues of his own. He honestly did not have the time to deal with someone else's private life. And ofcourse she had Parth for that. They kissed.

The clocked ticked away and time slowly passed. Soon it was 7 pm and everyone started leaving.

"Sanyukta, tum chalogi nahi?" asked Jiggy.

Sanyukta looked at him and said, "Nahi, I think I'll stay for some more time and work. Vardhan sir has given plenty of work." Jiggy waved good bye to her. Sanyukta got up and went to the water cooler for a glass of water. She sat on the bench next to it and just stared at the glass. And by the time she could realize, tears were rolling down her cheeks. She wiped them immediately fearing somebody would notice them but they were just not stopping. "Stop crying Sanyukta. You're a big girl. Stop crying!" she told herself. She panted for air.

"What is wrong with you today?" asked a voice.

Sanyukta looked up. It was Randhir.

"It is a modest question so please feel free to shout at me whenever you feel like ", added Randhir immediately.

"Too long", she said quietly and drank the water.

"I think we both have time for that story", said Randhir.

Sanyukta got up. "Do you really want to know what's happening in my life? Surely it would not fascinate you".

"It's better than seeing you crying all day", said Randhir slowly.

Sanyukta looked at him. Then she hugged him tightly and broke into his arms. She cried a lot. Randhir did not know what to do. He just told Sanyukta to be quiet, incase anybody heard her and saw them. He did not know what to do but realized that it was definitely something serious. He, willingly, hugged her back and told her to stay quiet. Sanyukta listened to him but cried slowly.

Randhir offered to drop Sanyukta at her apartment. Sanyukta quietly agreed. They locked their seat belts and Randhir drove his car out of the garage. Sanyukta was quiet. She looked out of the window. She saw a streak of lightening.

"It'll rain soon", said Randhir.

"Nice", replied Sanyukta, quietly, still looking out of the window.

Then they were quiet again.

"So...I met my mother yesterday", began Randhir.

"Why are you telling me this?" asked Sanyukta.

"I want to", said Randhir. "She was trying to reach me for days, text messages, phone calls, emails, a visit from her secretary, but I did not respond until yesterday. "

"What did she say?"

"She said that she was dying".

Sanyukta looked at Randhir. "What?"

"Cervical cancer. Terminal."

"What...what did you say?"

"I did not know what to say. I don't remember the last time my mother spoke to me before yesterday. We spoke after years and the first thing she tells me is that she is dying. So I just stay quiet."

"What else did she say?"

"She said that there is a will. In which she plans to give more than half of her property to me after she dies."

Sanyukta turned to look out of the window again. It was definitely going to rain and the clouds were roaring. "And did you have a response for this?"

"I screamed. A lot".

"Why would you do that?"

"Isn't it obvious? Your mother, your own other who left you when you were little comes to you after 10 or 15 years so that she could tell me Son, I am dying. Instead of being there for me I want you to take my belongings.' Really? Is that how things work around here? Well, I guess maybe things do work like this for Renuka Sanyal. She knows business more than any of us."

Sanyukta turned and looked at Randhir immediately. Her eyes were fixed on him as he drove. "Your mother...is Renuka Sanyal? Business tycoon Renuka Sanyal? Of Sanyal group of companies? "

"Yes. So?"

"You...I did not know."

"What difference does it make anyway?"

"Well...nothing really. But I ..."

"You what?"

Sanyukta looked at Randhir. "Nothing."

They stopped at a red light. "Acha, I forgot, do you turn left or right. We need a short cut because it will rain soon."

"I...I want to got to a hotel tonight. Do not feel like going to my apartment", said Sanyukta looking down at her bag.

"Why?" asked a curious Randhir. "What will you do at a hotel alone?"

"I will sleep. Watch something. But not my apartment. Please".

"That is very bad idea."

"Look, just drop me off at a cheap hotel and you go home. I don't want you to get wet and sick because of me."

"Well, actually I was planning to get a hotel room myself too", said Randhir. "My mom and her husband is in my apartment. She wanted to see my place talk to the neighbours and stuff. I lied to her telling her that I have some work and won't be coming home. So I guess we both are homeless tonight."

"Ironic isn't it?"

The red light turned green and Randhir started his car. "So you sure you don't want to go back?"

Sanyukta looked at Ranhdir and nodded. "I am sure."

"Okay then. Lets find you a hotel".

Randhir drove the car. It started raining. Sanyukta looked out of the closed window. This was the first time she would experience monsoon in Delhi. Then Randhir stopped the car in front of the Marriott.

"Randhir, I said a cheap hotel. I can't afford this", said Sanyukta.

"It's raining. This was the closest. Come on."

Sanyukta unlocked the seat belt and got out. They quickly ran to the stairs in the rain. "Be careful. It's slippery", called out Randhir.

They got in. The lobby was crowded. Randhir went to the receptionist, Sanyukta followed.

"Welcome sir, how may I help you?"

"We need two rooms for the night", said Randhir.

"Just a moment sir, I'll check." She clicked through the computer. Sanyukta was feeling cold. Her hair was completely wet. However, Randhir was no different either.

"I am sorry sir. We are all booked for the night. But there is a presidential room available."

"Just one?" asked Randhir.

"Just one sir", the receptionist replied.

"Okay I'll take it", said Randhir handing out his credit card.

"What are you doing?" asked Sanyukta. "One room only? Are you crazy..."

"Hold on. Don't jump into conclusions", said Randhir.

"Please sign here sir", said the receptionist and handed him a log book.

Randhir turned to Sanyukta and said, "Sign karo."

"Kya?"

"Just do it Sanyukta."

Sanyukta entered the details and signed her name. "Thank you ma'am. Here is your key."

"What is this?" Sanyukta asked Randhir, taking the key.

"This key is for your room. Go watch something or sleep. I'll see you on Monday."

"And what about you?"

"I'll find a place."

"Which means you'll go out into the rain again?"

"I don't see any other way of getting to my car Sanyukta."

Sanyukta looked at Randhir. "Come with me."

"Excuse me?"

"Don't worry, we find a way to spend the night without getting into each other's nerves. You cannot go out in this rain again. Lets just do with what we have."

Randhir looked out of the door. It was raining cats and dogs. "Fine."

They got into the lift. Their room was on the 15th floor. They found the room and Randhir unlocked the door and turned on the lights. Sanyukta followed him inside. "This is huge. Maybe it is for the president", she thought.

The pair was cold so Randhir adjusted the heater. Sanyukta looked around. Many paintings hung on the walls. She went towards one and observed. "I always fascinated my father's choice for art. He loved paintings", said Sanyukta.

"What about you?" asked Randhir.

"I never understood them", said Sanyukta.

Randhir smiled. "Well at least you never had to pretend that you understand abstract art. I always had to whenever I accompanied my father for his exhibitions. "

Sanyukta remembered immediately that she had read in an article long time ago that Renuka Sanyal's first husband was the prestigious painter Harsh Singh Shikhawat. She turned around. "Did you tell your father about your mother's visit?"

"And then what? Another long lecture about the woman who ruined us both?"

Sanyukta sat on the bed. "Well, you should have atleast talked to her in a nice..."

"Easy for you to say Sanyukta. You have a wonderful family. Not a dysfunctional one like me. You don't have to hide all these small details from one of your parents about the other."

"No. I don't. but I do have to hide stuff about myself to them. Everyday my mom asks me if I'm doing okay. I lie some days."

Randhir sat on the bed next to her. They remained quiet for sometime.

"this room really is for the president it seems", said Randhir after sometime.

Sanyukta laughed.

"You did not find this room big enough?" asked Randhir, also smiling a little.

"Yeah", nodded Sanyukta, still laughing a little.

They went quiet again, but with a smile on their faces. "Wow. Look at us having a normal conversation with one another.,,,,like..."

"Like the first time we met at the caf", completed Randhir.

Sanyukta looked at Randhir. "Yeah. Like that first time."

"Co-incidence? We are in the same hotel where we kissed...I kissed you. Bad night. Too drunk I was," asked Randhir.

"I never kissed Parth Randhir. He kissed me. We both were a little drunk but I never kissed him. I broke off immediately. I just want you to know...know that okay?" said Sanyukta.

"Well, drinks and men...not a good combination. I know. I lived with one for years." Randhir sighed.

Sanyukta placed her hand on Randhir's face and rubbed his cheek. Randhir looked at her. Then all of a sudden, Sanyukta leaned forward and kissed him. Randhir was taken aback by surprise but he participated. But suddenly he broke off. "Sanyukta...listen...you are in a vulnerable state right now. I don't want to..."

"Take advantage? You are not. Trust me. I...I want to."

Randhir held her left hand. "But...are you...are you sure..."

"I am more than sure," and saying this she began to kiss him again and this time Randhir kissed her back, passionately. The rain outside was momentous. They sat up on the bed. Randhir kissed Sanyukta's eyes and cheeks while she unbuttoned his shirt. She kissed his neck and they indulged in passion they had preserved since the first day they met in the caf. But it was not just sex. This was intimacy. When you share everything with one another, and not just the body, you call it intimacy.

Randhir slowly undressed Sanyukta and she lay on the bed facing Randhir. He pulled the sheets towards her and said, "Sanyukta...you..."

But Sanyukta stopped him. "Don't say a word." Sanyukta ran her hands and fingers through his bare body while Randhir kissed her neck.

In a way they were both glad it rained. It was like it was meant to rain. They were immune to the rest of the world. All the while, they said each other's names while making love. It was passion and it felt nice. There was no guilt in this. A shriek of pain ran through Sanyukta's body and she caught hold of the sheets. "Am I hurting you?" asked Randhir.

Sanyukta looked at his eyes. His careful and powerful eyes that craved for more.

"No", said Sanyukta softly. "Just...don't stop."
