ArHi SS: A Thing Called Marriage
Chapter 30
"It's boy. Handsome just like me."
"No it's a girl. Cute just like me."
"Boy."
"Girl."
"Payal!!!!!"
Payal rolled her eyes and turned to look at Akash who was lying beside her and right now was glaring at her, "Seriously Akash, I just can't understand it. I mean every father wishes for a baby girl and you are pinning for a boy. I mean what's the point behind it?"
"Maybe I don't want a girl so that both of you cannot team up against me." Akash replied with a smirk making Payal snort.
"Really out of all the reasons, you are going for that reason. My son can team up with me too, you know. But we both know who is going to spoil the baby, don't we?" Payal replied with a know-it-all look on her face.
Akash smiled, moving closer to Payal "Of course it's going to be me. Besides I don't expect a stubborn woman like you to go gaga over our baby."
"I am not stubborn." Payal declared with a huff.
"Acha ji. Weren't you the one who refused to succumb to my charms for 8 months and admitted your love for me only when I threatened to jump off the terrace of our college?" Raising both of his eyebrows, Akash questioned making Payal flush in embarrassment.
"You can't tease me for that. I always take time in trusting people." Payal explained exasperatedly.
Hearing this, the casual smile from Akash's face wiped off. He looked away, clenching his jaw and closed his eyes trying to ward off uneasy thoughts.
Sensing the change in his demeanor, Payal shifted closer to him being extra careful about the baby. She raised her hand to touch his face when he murmured in a defeated tone "If you had trusted me, you would have told me about the complications in your pregnancy, Payal."
Payal stilled. Her eyes widened as panic started seeping in her heart. How did he get to know about this? She always made sure to not let him accompany her on any monthly check-ups scheduled with her doctor. She always has been extremely careful about it but it turned out that she wasn't.
Her emotions must have been visible on her face because the next moment, Akash answered her unasked question "I have been in touch with your doctor since the start Payal. I know everything. I waited for 3 months thinking maybe you will tell me soon but you didn't. What I don't understand is why you felt the need to hide all this from me? Is it because you thought I couldn't handle it or because you thought I want the baby more than you? I"
"What!!! No, Akash. It's not like that. I just didn't felt the need to trouble you about something about which even the doctor isn't sure. I'd not want to trouble you. You always looked so happy about the baby." Payal explained helplessly groaning inwardly at the royal mess that she has managed to create.
Cursing softly under his breath, Akash replied calmly "Okay I understand that. Now you go to sleep. I don't want you to worry in this condition."
Looking torn, Payal stared at Akash who refused to meet her eyes. An uncomfortable silence fell around them which was broken by Akash eventually "By the way, Khushi knows this too. She has been worried about you but I assured her. This afternoon after you told her, she asked me what you are hiding from her. I couldn't lie to her so I told her everything like you told Arnav."
Payal wasn't able to say anything for few moments. Shame, guilt and sadness engulfed her making her eyes water.
As she looked at Akash who stared up at the ceiling of the room not wanting to look at her, she bit her lips to quiet down her sob "I am sorry, Akash."
Akash sighed, turning towards Payal and hugged her quietly offering her comfort. As Payal hid her face in his chest and clung to him tightly, he patted her head and shushed her down.
"You know I can't be angry with you, Payal. So let's just forget this. Infact, I was just curious not angry. Now, hush." Akash chided softly making Payal give him a watery smile.
She raised her head to kiss him softly. As Akash kissed her back, she mumbled "I love you, Akash. Even if I am scared about what's going to happen, I know we will make through this together."
"Of course, we will." Akash smiled.

After a very hectic day where Arnav spent every moment watching Khushi practicing the ramp walk, he frowned as he saw Khushi sitting in front of the dressing table lost in her own thoughts while brushing her hairs slowly.
"Is everything okay, Khushi?" He approached her carefully.
Shaking her head, Khushi answered looking lost in her thoughts "I am just wondering about Payal Jiji."
Arnav stiffened instantly detecting the tone of anguish and pain in her answer. She knows. His heart twisted in guilt and shame. He was about to apologize to her when she spoke again as if she was talking to herself not him "Akash jiju is so worried for her. I am praying for her safety. I don't want to lose her."
Hesitating a bit, Arnav kept his hand on her shoulder and squeezed it gently "Don't worry Khushi. I am in touch with her doctor and she is confident that nothing is going to happen to Payal and her baby."
Khushi looked up, a look of awareness dawning in her eyes as if she realized his presence in the room only then. She turned to face him and smiled understanding everything "Oh so Jiji told you yesterday. I hope for the same Arnavji."
"Khushi, about that...umm...I promised Payal that I will not tell you anything about it and that's why I didn't tell you. I didn't want to break her trust. I hope you aren't angry about it." Arnav said apprehensively, not looking at Khushi at all.
"What!!! No, no Arnavji. I am not angry. Infact I would have been angry if you would have broken your promise. Things like this happen in family, right?" Khushi laughed, assuring him with complete ease.
Arnav exhaled shaking a bit, looking relieved. As he processed Khushi's question, he found himself answering affirmatively as if he thought the same.
Not realizing what he has done.
Not realizing that the man who always proclaimed to be a loner with his only sister by his side has managed to commit his trust, love and feelings to two persons that he didn't even knew for a long time.
He now has a family just because he made the right choice. It didn't matter that it took him a long time.
What matters now is he felt happy to be someone one can trust upon and count onto.

Devyani Raizada always had a knack of seeing things that were supposed to take place soon. Her eyes twinkled while resting on her grandson and his wife, seeing love blossoming between them.
It wasn't like she didn't felt it before but today it was stronger than ever. The way Khushi fussed over Arnav's breakfast, the way Arnav looked worried every time he glanced at her but sobered down immediately when she shot a glare in his direction.
She found it all endearing. It reminded her of her own marriage and the stolen moments of love between her and her husband.
It soothed her heart because of the big risk she has taken for it and had always been worried about it.
When her son asked her to make Arnav marry Khushi on his deathbed, she immediately said no knowing very well that Arnav dislikes Khushi very much.
But she had to promise her son about the same much against her own will. Because winning an argument with Avinash was impossible.
Later when she pondered about it, she found that her son was right. Arnav and Khushi will be perfect for each other.
It took her a long time to figure out that no matter what she tried to make Arnav understand, he won't deter from his set opinion on Khushi.
Then all hell broke loss.
She resorted to emotional blackmail, threats about leaving him and last but not the least making Khushi the CEO of AR, only then did Arnav agreed about marrying Khushi.
She knew that he won't forgive her fully for doing all this. But it wasn't what she cared about.
It was all worth the effort, she concluded as Khushi hugged her and Arnav smiled at her before leaving for AR together.
Her son will be so happy to see them together, she thought brushing the lone tear on her wrinkled cheek away swiftly.
Shantivan was again a home, not just a place where she lived.

Staring at her reflection in the mirror, Khushi fidgeted with her dress looking very, very nervous. Okay, this isn't so easy, she concluded as she heard the applause from outside which gave her an uneasy feeling in her stomach.
Dressed in the showstopper dress with her half of hairs up swept in a knot leaving the rest cascading down her back, she looked regal. And felt like a princess. Just like she always saw in her dreams.
But she had too many matters to worry on and it didn't let the royal feeling get to her. Arnav was so right in thinking that it's not all that easy. Now she felt bad for putting her husband through all this.
For starters, she was nervous about how the hell is she going to walk on that damned, larger-than-life ramp. It was not like she didn't have ample practice of it on the makeshift ramp in AR. But it was different considering it is the annual bridal couture week in Delhi which always had consisted peoples from page three and business class and not to mention the always arrogant critiques.
Second, she had no idea whether Arnav was going to agree to her wish. Since the time she expressed it, he disappeared from there like he wasn't there in first place.
And third, which fool allotted the last slot to AR, saying that they should reserve the best show for the last to keep the interest of the audience intact? Interest, my foot.
As she heard the models around her going, she panicked realizing that it was their turn. She hopped on her feet literally hyper valeting when a girl came and exclaimed that it's time for her walk.
The moment she made her way to the ramp, she literally begged to her deity for some help feeling like Cinderella- lost and terrified.
But luckily her prayers were answered.
Because when she walked to the middle of the ramp and stopped as decided, keeping a calm demeanor while her insides were threatening to jump out, something happened.
As she turned her head a little, she saw Arnav standing beside her.
Looking like a prince, who came for her rescue eventually.
