CHAPTER 9

It was Saturday end of second week at AR. Khushi as usual reached half an hour before her time. She walked to the cabin she was allocated with Riya. She had kept down her bag and was ready to kick off the day when her intercom rang.

"Who's calling so early in the morning? It can't be Laad Governor he comes at 9.00." as she reached for the phone.

"In my office now." Came a harsh voice from the other end.

"What?"

"I don't like repeating myself."

"Ok." That's all she could say.

"Now what have I done and doesn't he get anyone else to throw his mood swing at. Khushi you're so dead today. Hey Devi Maiya save me." She mumbled making her way to Arnav's office.

She knocked softly on the glass door and waited for his approval to get in.

He ordered her to get in and take a seat.She took a seat opposite him and waited for him to continue.

"Miss Gupta it's the end of two weeks now and am sure you have adjusted yourself to the schedule accordingly." He said. "Apart from what you get to do there is some other work you are also supposed to do. Let's see how good you are." As he looked at her face which showed confusion written all over. "You will have to go through these files and re-modify the designs." As he moved his eyes towards a heap of files.

"What?" Khushi almost shouted on seeing the pile of files and were a dozen of them to specify.

"Any problem?"

"No sir." She answered with confidence. As she got up to leave.

"One more thing Miss Gupta." He said waiting for her to look up. "I want them ready by Monday morning. If you wish you can also take them home."

"Ok sir, you will have them by Monday morning." She answered back picking the files and left his office.

She was descending the stairs cursing the Laad Governor when she bumped into someone and the files went crashing to the floor.

"Am really sorry. I wasn't looking forward." Khushi said bending down to pick the files.

"It's ok." The person said as he bent down to help her.

Khushi looked up to see a familiar face. "Akashji." She said.

Akash looked at her with a surprise. "How do you know my name?" he asked.

"Jiji told me..." She said looking at Akash who seemed to be figuring out what was going on. "I mean Payal your event manager."

"Ohh yeah, so you are Payalji's ..." As he remembered seeing her at Sheesh Mahal.

"Am her younger sister Khushi. Nice to meet you."

"Same here."

"I should get back to work before that Laad G... I mean sir starts shouting."

"Right." He said with a small smile.

They both walked their way to carry on with their work.

Arnav entered Shantivan to find a tensed atmosphere around. The family members were trying to console Anjali.

He walks up to his sister and takes a sit next to her. "What happened Di?"

"Saale Sahib, she is worried about the upcoming photo shoot." Shyam said.

"But Di, everything is ready for the photo shoot and there is yet time to it." He said reasoning out.

"You are right, but she just got a call from the head photographer that he met with an accident and has got a fracture on his arm."

"What the... But he was absolutely fine until evening... Anyways Di someone from AR will get it done." Arnav said trying to figure out what went wrong within a few hours.

"Saale Sahib, you know she prefers Reni among all the photographers." Shyam spoke.

"I can help." Came a voice from behind.

All the heads turned towards the voice and the tensed atmosphere seemed to change to a happy one on seeing the person who stood there.

"Hello Hi Bye Bye... Nand Kishore." Mami said in excitement.

"Namaste masiji ... please call me NK... You know it sound cool." He said.

He moved around greeting everyone and finally Anjali.

"Di, I can help you... I mean your photo shoot...if you like." He said giving a hug to Anjali.

"I'll be more than happy NK bhai." She said returning the hug.

"Nanav, mere bhai... I hope you will not have a problem." NK said.

"No, not at all. Since you are a qualified photographer I have no problem and on top Di has also approved."

Sunday morning in Gupta house was normally noisy unlike today. As everyone gathered at the dining table for breakfast and found Khushi at her seat instead of the kitchen which was shocking.

"Khushi aren't you coming with me today?" Rishi asked.

"No bhai, I have a lot of work to finish." Khushi said with a sad expression.

That Laad Governor had piled work for her.

"Haire Nand Kishore, at least she won't disturb me today with her nonstop chattering and messing the kitchen." Buaji said.

"Yes buaji, her work will keep her away from us." Payal said in a taunting tone.

"Why are you both pulling my sisters leg." Rishi said with a mischievous smile.

His statement made everyone laugh as it was very rare that they got a chance to pull her leg.

Mami and Anjali moved to the hall where they found Akash staring at something on the phone.

"What happened Akash? Why are you staring at your phone?" Anjali asked trying to look at his phone screen.

Akash quickly kept his phone in the pocket. "Nothing Di, just a message from advertising companies."

"I hope you are telling the truth." Mami spoke.

"Ha ma." Akash answered avoiding his mothers eyes and excused himself.

On the other hand Arnav was busy conversing on his phone with Aman.

"Yeah Aman."

"Sir the accident was planned. There was tempering done to the brakes of the car."

"Anything else?"

"No sir."

"Ok, be on the watch out and keep me informed." Arnav said ending the call.

The weekend seemed to have gone in a jiffy with everyone busy with their work.

Khushi reached AR earlier than usual to face him. She had just reached her cabin when her intercom rang.

"Does this Laad Governor even sleeps?" she asked herself as it was yet 7.30am in the morning.

She picked the call just to hear, "In my office."

"Be ready Khushi. Today he won't spare you and it's early in the morning he can get you as his breakfast if he hasn't had it." She said to herself.

Khushi knocked at the door and peeped in. "May I come in sir?" she asked and in return she got a "Hmmm.." from him.

She entered and placed the files on his table.

"So you couldn't finish the work I gave." He said looking up from his laptop to face her.

She looked pale with dark circles under her eyes. She looked exhausted. All thanks to him.

"No sir, it's all ready." She said with confidence in her voice.

Arnav went through the file and was shocked to see the re-modifications of the various designs. "impressive." Is the word that instantly came out from his mouth.

Khushi looked at him with shocked expression. Was she really listening to the right thing or was her overworked brain playing games on her. She managed to say, "Thank you."

As she was yet unsure of what she heard was true. The person who was ever ready to humiliate her or taunt her was impressed with her work.

Arnav just realized what he had said and he quickly said the next statement, "No need to be so happy." He said with an angry tone.

"That's exactly what I was wondering... How did bitter guard become jaggery?" She said with a smile.

"Enough. Get back to work and one more thing from today you will be going to AFH and help Tina with the costumes for the photo shoot next month."

She just nodded and made a funny face leaving his room."Laad Governor kaki ke."

The busy schedule kept both of them busy and away from each other. It was almost three weeks that they talked to each other as Arnav always piled up work for Khushi to torture her in one way or the other as if it was revenge for her avoiding him.

If that was not enough he garnished it with a cherry on top by making her work at AFH in the evening. She had full 12 hours of duty from 8am to 8pm.

NK decided to visit AFH the day before the trial photo shoot. He had informed Tina that he would be coming and the models should be there for a trial shoot.

Khushi was also there as usual for the evening duty as that was one of the ways she kept away from Arnav spoiling her evening. She had decided to help with the props for the shoot today.

Chapter 10 Part A

Khushi was moving with a box that contained props when she hits her leg on something and loses her balance. She was about to fall when strong arms held her.

Arnav had reached AFH and moved straight to the studio where the shoot was to be held and notices Khushi who was about to fall on her own face with the box. He held her hand supporting both the box and her.

Khushi looked up to meet his eyes and they both stool there lost in each other's eyes.

NK entered to find both of them lost in their own world. He clicked a few pictures before their trance was broken by the flash of the camera.

Arnav quickly removed his hand and the whole weight of the box came onto Khushi's hand. Unable to lift the box she kept it down with a thud and unfortunately landed on Arnav's foot.

He didn't scream in pain but gave an angry look towards Khushi.

"Can't you do any work without falling?" He said in a harsh voice.

"Of course I can, if you are not around." She retorted back.

"How does my presence affect your work?"

She was about to answer back when another voice interrupts them.

"Hey...hey...relax...it's." He said moving towards Khushi.

"Hi, I'm Nand Kishore... NK in short, your new photographer. You must be the model.

"Hi, am not the model. I work as a designer here."

"Oh sorry... you look so beautiful that i mistook you as a model. By the way your name please."

"It's ok Nanheji... am Khushi. I hope you won't mind me calling you Nanheji."

"Not at all Khushiji. Shall we..." he asked to get back to work.

Arnav stood there as if he was invisible. He stood there listening to the conversation and it was very clear that NK was trying to flirt with Khushi. He stood their boiling in anger.

"Why am I angry.... Why can't I see her talking to someone else? This should not affect me." He thought.

He moved to the studio to find Khushi and NK laughing and talking.

The photo shoot ended after an hour. Khushi packed her bag and was about leave when her phone rings. She moves out to the corridor and receives the call. She was unaware of the other person who was also present there.

"Hi baby... How are you?" Khushi spoke on the phone.

"You forgot what is today?" the person on the other end spoke.

"No baby, I remember its 14^th February today."

"Aren't you coming to meet me? We are all waiting for you."

"I know we have to meet at GM restaurant. I have just finished my work and I'll be there in half an hour. Bye baby." She spoke and ended the call.

She turns around after ending the call to find Arnav staring at her with blood shot eyes.

"Hey Devi Maiya... ab ine kya hua? (what's wrong with him now.)"

She just walked past him as she was getting late. Arnav also followed her after a while.(He also didn't know why he was doing that.)

Khushi was waiting for an auto and instead NK comes and offers her a lift. She readily agreed as she was late and asks NK to join her for the valentine party to which NK agrees.

Khushi reached GM restaurant to find Payal and Rishi waiting for her near the garden entrance side of the parking area.

Both Khushi and NK walked forward to hear her sister and bhai shouting in union,

"Surprise." As they moved aside.

There was someone sited on his one knee with a bunch of flowers. The person slowly removed the flowers covering the face and stood up. Khushi smiled in excitement and ran towards him.

Arnav who had followed them and stood at a distance saw Khushi in a stranger's arms. He walked away in rage without noticing the two other people who were also there, Rishi and Payal.

"So my little sister, how do you like our surprise?" Rishi asked walking towards Khushi.

"It was indeed a real surprise." Khushi said with a broad smile.

"Let's go in there is more." Payal said dragging Khushi.

Khushi remembers she had come with NK and she does the introduction.

"Nanheji, she is Payal my sister, he's Rishi my brother and that's Rohan my childhood friend, and he is Nanheji our new photographer.

The surprise inside was even bigger. She saw her parents waiting for her.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY." Garima and Shashi said in union.

"Amma, buaji . Thank you." she said touching their feet to take blessings and give them a tight hug.

"I thought you forgot." She spoke again making a baby face.

"How can I forget my princess birthday." Shashi said.

Khushi then introduced NK to her parents. They cut the cake together as double celebration of khushi's birthday and Valentine's Day. Garima and Shashi leave the children alone to enjoy.

The Raizada ladies entered the main hall to find a nervous Akash mumbling to himself as he paced the room.

"Should I tell her or not? Will she agree?" Akash mumbled.

"What happened Akash? Who is her?" Anjali asked stopping Akash from pacing the room.

"Hello Hi Bye Bye... Common tellez us ...whosez her?" mami asked.

"No one ma."

"Akash don't feel shy like a girl. I know who that she is." Anjali said with a cheeky smile.

She snatched Akash's phone to see a picture of Akash and Payal together.

"Show it to us also." Mami said.

Akash tries to snatch the phone back but too late Anjali gives the phone to mami.

"Payal's photo... I hope you are not in love with her." Manorma said looking at her son with a straight face.

"Ma I like her." Akash replied in an angry tone.

"Does she love you?" Manorma asked making all the heads turn toward her with a surprise look. "Don't look at me like that. HHBB... if you love her than have you proposed her or not?

"Manorma are you ok. I thought you never liked Payal bitya." Nani said.

"I had always liked her. She is really nice and a perfect girl to be the daughter-in -law of Raizada house. But I didn't know about Akash."

"Am very happy with you Manorma." Nani said.

"You are the best ma." Akash said giving Manorma a hug.

"HHBB, now stop buttering me... and what are you baiting for Christmas to propose her?"

"Ha Akash, call her and ask her. Anyways today is Valentine's Day and a good day to propose as well. If she also loves you then she won't refuse you." Anjali said in an excited tone.

Arnav reached home to find everyone in a happy mood.

"Why is everyone so happy any occasion?" Arnav asked.

"Chote, people don't need occasions to be happy unlike you... who even occasionally doesn't laugh or smile. Anjali said teasingly.

"What the..."

"Chote relax... come have a sit. Today Akash is going to propose his lady love.

"What nonsense... Let me go... I don't believe in all this."

"Wait... You are not going anywhere." Anjali said pulling his hand to make him sit next to her. "And when you fall in love you won't even realize it...now shhh."

Akash dialed Payal's number and waited for her to receive it. Anjali asked Akash to put the call on speaker so that they could also hear the answer.

Chapter 10 Part B

Khushi notices Akash's name flashing on her sister's mobile screen. She looks up at her sister to find her blushing.

"Why are you blushing jiji?" Khushi asked.

"Chup kar...pagal..." Payal says.

Khushi indicates everyone to remain silent as she picked the call and kept it on speaker and asked Payal to talk.

"Hi Payal." Akash said.

"Hi." Payal replied.

"I wanted to tell you...."

"Ha...."

"Woh.... I mean.... Ammm.... You were looking very beautiful today."

(He changed the topic making Anjali hit her forehead with her palm while Arnav just rolled his eyes. Anjali indicated him to say I LOVE YOU with her fingers.)

"Kya?... but today I didn't come to office and we never met also..."

"Who.... I mean... ... (Anjali indicates him to speak up.) Woh Payal.... I LOVE YOU." He finally said it in one breath.

Payal was in a shocked state. She yet couldn't believe what she heard. Khushi shook her to get her out of the shock.

"Akashji." She said in a low tone.

"Payal I just said what I feel for you. Please don't take me wrong. I'll accept whatever your answer is. Whether it's a Yes or No."

"Ha bol do." Came another voice in between.

On the other hand it doesn't go unheard by Arnav it didn't take him long to realize whose voice it was.

"Payal."

"Yes.... I mean...."

"I know you answer Payal."

Everyone breathe out a sigh of relief as that's the answer they were waiting for. Arnav ignores them and leaves for his room.

"Am so happy for you." Khushi spoke.

"Payal is there someone else with you? I mean where are you?"

"It's my sister's birthday today. So we are at GM sweets as we had planned a surprise for her."

"It's khushi's birthday. Wish her on my behalf."

"Sure." As they both end the call.

"Am so happy nani. We should go to their place with shagud soon. How about tomorrow?" Anjali asked all excited.

"Yes Anjali bitya, Shubh kam me deri kesi?" nani said with a broad smile.

"Ha Anjali bitya, sasuma is right." Manorma approved.

"What do you say Akash?" Anjali asked in a teasing tone.

"Whatever you feel is right." He answered blushing and left to his room.

"It's done nani. We will go to their place tomorrow evening." Anjali said already making plans.

NK returned home to find everyone busy wrapping gifts.

"Di, are these gifts for me?" NK asked taking a seat.

"No, they are for Payalji, Akash's to be." As she shows NK Payal's photo on her phone.

"Oh Payalji... She is very sweet girl."

"NK bhai, how do you know her?" Anjali asked

"I met her today at Khushiji's party. She is Khushiji's..." but he was cut short by Arnav.

"NK where have you been?" Arnav asked.

"Nanav mere bhai...relax... I had gone for a party with Khushiji."

"Don't you know that you have a photo shoot tomorrow?" he asked in an angry tone.

"No Nanav. Its Sunday tomorrow and the shoot was postponed to Monday as the model has flown out of town with her boyfriend for a long valentine weekend. So Chill."

"And who gave her permission?" he asked with a harsh tome.

"Chote, she had informed me as your phone was not reachable. I gave her permission and forgot to inform you. Anyway not everyone is so boring and unromantic like you." Anjali said making a weird face.

"Whatever..." as he stormed back to his room.

He tried to sleep but the picture of Khushi in flashed in front of his eyes. The moment she had hugged that other man. "Who was he? Why can't I see her with someone else?" He cursed himself for thinking like that about her.

Khushi kept on tossing and turning in her bed thinking about Arnav. Today she had a new feeling when she was near him. Her heart beat had increased when he held her. His touch had made her skin go numb. "What was that effect? She has never felt something like that when around Rohan." She kept on stressing her mind for an answer as sleep soon took over her worked out brain.
