CHAPTER 1 PART 1
Arnav looked at his wrist watch after parking his car at INDIRA GANDHI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, DELHI. The time by his watch was 3.00 am which meant he had reached an hour before his family landed back in Delhi.
He leaned his head back on the head rest of his seat, closing his eyes as the events of the past five years flashed back.
He had seen the truth in Khushi's eyes. She was right and he needed no proof to trust her. Wasn't she the one who saved him from those goons? Wasn't she the one who brought him back home to his family? But something had gone wrong down the line.
The person behind all that had happened in the past fifteen days stood right in front of him. Shyam Manohar Jha. He was the one behind his kidnapping but yet he couldn't do anything to get him out of his house and out of his Di's heart.
Even though knowing the whole truth he had allowed him back in the house so as to save his sisters and the unborn baby's life. His Di had tried to kill her own baby and this had forced him to get his jijaji back in the house. He knew how dangerous this man was to his family but for the first time in life he couldn't do anything.
The truth had been laid in front of the family but no one wanted to believe Khushi. Instead she was accused back to which she had not uttered a single word in her defense.
Anjali had been in a great shock and had also blamed Khushi. Khushi being selfless and caring had made her approach Anjali again but it had turned out on the worst side and he had blamed her for being the reason behind their misery.
"You are the biggest mistake of my life Khushi Kumari Gupta. Kash me tumse kabhi mila hi nai hota."
He had regretted sayin those awful words to her. He came back to tell her that he loved her, trusted her and could never hurt her but seeing her walk out of his life was unbearable.
Once again anger had got the better of him. He had never meant to say those words to her but he just wanted her in his house, in his room, in his life and most importantly in his heart in which she had broken into.
"Tum nahi ja sakti. Apna contract toad ke kaise ja sakti ho? Maine shadi ki raat tumse kya kaha tha contract marriage ki hai humne aur contract abhitak khatam nahi hua. Isliye jaane ka khayal apne dil se nikal do."
"Bas Arnavji... acha hua apne hume yaad dila diya ke Arnav Singh Raizada kabhi nai badal sakta. Thik hai jabtak yeh contract pura na ho hum iss ghar se kahi nahi jayenge."
She had stayed back saying she wouldn't go anywhere until the contract was over and by that he had bought time for himself to get her back into his life and win her trust.
Outside the room she behaved like a normal daughter-in-law. She cared for everyone including him saying it was her duty until the contract was over. She would spend her time in the kitchen and never came in ten feet of radius around him. She never talked to him or her voice was rarely heard in the house. His absence had caused to work to pile up and he normally got bust attending back to back meeting.
Things had changed in two weeks. He never got a chance to talk to her as he came late from work and she would be fast asleep and by the time he woke up in the morning she would be gone. The only thing he got was to hold her hand and admire the sleeping beauty until sleep came.
He walked to the dining table to find everyone sited at their places as Anjali asked, "Akash how was dinner yesterday night?"
"It was ok Di." Akash replied with a blushing Payal sited next to him.
His eyes searched the area to get a glimpse of Khushi but she was nowhere to be seen. His trance was broken by nani's words, "Aap dono ki shadi ko 6 months ho gaye pata bhi nai chala.."
That's when Arnav realized that yesterday was the day when six months of their marriage ended. He rushed back to his room. Everything was in place. He opened the cupboard to find everything in place. Her clothes, bags and shoes were all in place.
He rushed back to the dining area and asked Payal where Khushi was. He was informed that she had gone to buaji's place since she had called in the morning and since he was asleep she had not bothered to wake him. He was satisfied but when she hadn't returned at night he had gone to Laxmi Nagar the following morning to get her back but what he saw shocked him.
The house was locked. He asked Happyji if he had seen Khushi. He said, "Khushiji was here yesterday and had left in the evening."
The ground slipped from under his feet. The world seemed to have come crushing down onto him. Once again he was left alone. He was alone again. He had a family but no one could sooth his pain the way Khushi did. He had looked for her day and night but no results.
He had told his family the truth behind their marriage and why Khushi was missing.
It had been a month since Khushi went away from his life just the way she had come into his life unexpectedly.
NK had also left for Sydney after he had told the reason why Khushi had left. NK had not talked to him but before he left he only said, "Khushiji loved you from the bottom of her heart. She was so pure and selfless. She was fragile but you broke her into a million pieces. I'll come back to this house the day you get her back Arnav."
It had been two months since Khushi had left. He was standing by the poolside looking up at the sky that twinkled with millions of stars. He looked away on hearing his Di's voice.
"Chote..." Anjali called out in a shaky voice.
"Kya hua Di?" he asked reaching out to his sister.
She looked pale with blood shot eyes as if she had been crying for hours.
"Khushiji was right Chote... I didn't trust her, I was so blind in trusting that man that I didn't notice the truth in Khushiji's words." Anjali spoke between her sobs as she sat on the bed.
"Di, what are you saying?" he asked trying to figure out what was wrong.
Anjali handed over the CD's she had found hidden under the baby court.
He played the CD's on his laptop and they contained the truth of Shyam Jha. It showed all the unwanted incidents that had happened and in one of them he had confessed in front of Khushi that he was behind everything.
It was too late. The damage had been done. Khushi was gone and Shyam had abruptly disappeared from home. Shyam was smart but humans are to errors and Shyam had also done one. Thinking that no one would ever find out his truth he had hidden the CD's under the baby cot thinking it was the safest place but fate always has its role to play.
Arnav had handed the over the CD's to the police and within a week Shyam Manohar Jha was behind the bars.
