Hi, new reader here :) I saw the link of this story posted by _disha_ and started to read it, and I must say, I'm so happy that I got a chance to read this story!!
The title Hopes and Ambitions is so apt for this duo of Arnav and Khushi, and I love how you have clearly illustrated both their individuals hopes and ambitions through the course of this story so far. Khushi is a simple girl, but she still has hopes and ambitions, of teaching children, making her parents proud, and making a positive difference in her community. It was so disheartening to see her whole world taken away from her so cruelly, but she did it with such maturity and grace, despite her young age. Arnav on the other hand is completely complex, has so many layers built around him - he's trying to step up for his family and be the responsible brother, he has this thing about protecting his image at any cost, yet chooses to start a no strings attached affair with an actress/model, he's willing to do whatever it takes to win the next election (to the extent of marrying a complete stranger), he's so calculative when it comes to politics yet such a genuine family guy when it comes to certain members of his family. This hot and cold behavior is also apparent in his relationship with Khushi. I really love how you have highlighted all these characteristics of the Arnav and Khushi so seamlessly in this story thus far.
I don't know much about Indian politics, but I'm so fascinated by the whole political landscape that you have portrayed in this story that it's really kept me captivated. Politics is a dirty game, and it's all about image and how to play the game - I like how you are not sugarcoating any of it as it really lends an air of authenticity around the story.
The side characters also have so much going on with them - I like how you don't overdo it with their presence, but give us enough that that those characters still stay relevant. Lavanya is an interesting character for sure and I have a feeling we haven't heard the last from her. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, and I have a feeling that she will come back into the picture at the most inopportune time. She really has no motivation to keep her affair with Arnav a secret - I can't even imagine how Khushi will feel when she comes to know about it (by the way, I was so disappointed with Arnav for going to meet her after his marriage. Sure he wasn't going to sleep with her but letting her kiss him like that was just gross😡). Payal and Akash also are intriguing characters - what is the deal with him, his anger and mood swings?? Does he have some problems with drugs (from one of the earlier chapters, I got the feeling that Arnav hates drugs due to some really personal reason). I feel so bad for Payal, I really hope that she finds the courage to do what pleases her instead of worrying about what society will think. Arnav's grandma and sister are sweethearts, whereas his mother definitely can't be called the same. I'm glad though that Arnav can stand up for himself to defend Khushi like a true man.
And of course, I love Aman!! He's a brilliant character - he's obviously dealing with the lost of his loved one and has given up on his own personal life basically - but he's such a great contrast to ASR - he's sensible, he isn't rash with his actions or words, and he seems like a calming force beside the volatile ASR. Hope Aman gets some happiness soon in his personal life, he seems like a great man. But what is Anjali's deal around him (does she like him??).
I really like how you have set up this story with the political backdrop, the side characters and the circumstances that led to Arnav and Khushi's marriage. I see that you are slowly making Arnav and Khushi get closer to one another, get affected by each other - I like how it's gradual as it doesn't seem forced. The last two parts which highlighted each of their jealous feelings was great - hope they both realize why they are feeling that way. I really do feel sorry for Khushi that she's in this unique situation - I really hope that Arnav realizes that he needs to communicate with her more so she feels comfortable in this new life.
I think I have just written an essay, so I will stop now. Really looking forward to see how this story progresses, especially in terms of how Arnav and Khushi will come closer, what is the story behind Khushi's parents demise, and of course, what's going to happen with the election!
