Chapter 2
This girl was impossible! Totally impossible, she didn't thank him that's not the matter of concern, but now...At least for the sake of humanity she should express regard in some or the other way, But here she was sitting quietly next to him. As if nothing happened, As if she was going back home after enjoying at party! How strange.
He concentrated on the road, letting out a deep sigh. But then for his surprise he heard her say something to him.
"So you are a photographer?"She asked, clutching the blanket near her neck.
"Ermm...Not exactly...It isn't my Job, but my passion" He added, feeling light as the conversation just started.
"Then what is your Job?" She asked him with amusement.
"My Job... It's complicated" He said with a lopsided grin.
"Oh, Then tell what are you doing here? You just told me you are here for a project?" She asked him again, surprised how he was taking her questions with so much seriousness, he seemed to be Workaholic.
He raised an eyebrow on noticing her interest level being increased.
"Yes, A project. We are here to shoot for our annual cultural collaboration, a short documentary and few nature clippings like you see the barren wet roads covered with twigs, waterfalls, and etc."
He explained with pride, His Work- his only love.
"That's really nice...Umm..." She spoke willingly at first but then she was struck. Crap! What's his name?
"Reyaansh Singhania" He completed her sentence instantaneously. "You can call me Rey" He added, taking a sharp turn on road.
"Mine is Kriya...Kriya Ghai" She responded jovially.
"So kriya, my turn now..." He said mischievously making her turn head towards him with shock.
Maybe she just knew what he will ask. What was she doing on bridge alone in mid night? She shook her head, numb.
"So what do you do?" He asked her to which she stammered. "I...I...I..." He eyed at her, questioningly, she seemed to belong from a decent family, and by looks and everything also she seemed fine, then? Why was she hesitant?
I DANCE, I AM A DANCER. She wanted to scream, as loud as she could. But her throat refused to obey. And this wasn't the first time, there have been situations where she have been asked what she basically does and each time she use to give a same reply.
"I work at my Granny's store" She replied. It wasn't false, but half truth. Yes, she use to work with her grandmother at their store, but the other part of story was...Her Dance, She had opted Dance above everything in her life...everything...
But then they say- It's not easy to chase your dreams, Sacrifices are to be made.
It felt weird to him, what was there to be hesitant about it?
"That's great..." He replied. "Kriya...Won't you mind if I ask you something?" He added to which she accepted against her will.
"What were you doing there alone...How did you get there? "He asked gulping down a lump of discomfort. Hearing his question, her cheeks went pale, colorless.
"Ermm...Actually... I wanted to be alone for sometime..."She stammered.
"Alone? At midnight? This is stupid... It isn't safe for anyone... Everyone at your house must be tensed...Weren't you afraid" He spoke in.
She nodded a NO'.
"Because there was nothing to be afraid of... there isn't anyone to be afraid of." She said, in her choking voice.
"Your parents... Your granny..." She heard him say that and looked outside. "There is no one" She whispered in blank air.
He paused for a minute. He felt bad for her...and registered the same blankness in her life which he harbors too. That feeling of living alone, with no cause, a pale life, just waking up and leaving out for work and then returning back late night because there was no one waiting for his arrival. Maybe that blankness must be now overtaken by other things of life, but the scars always remain.
He wished he could go and console her, but he knew that it won't help. And after that there was no conversation between the two except him asking the directions to her home and her replying to him.
*
Silent tear slipped from the corner of her eyes. This feeling of loneliness wasn't new to her, but the proximity of being vulnerable was making her afraid. Today, she was crossed all the lines, She got off from the tourist bus in which she was travelling with her friends without informing them, she was almost lost!...But then he saved him...And she was highly thankful to him..
But she could barely think anything else in that moment- all the heaviness of life overtook her mind and made her get down from bus at a random place only to find a piece of peace.
Maybe she got off from the bus, just to end this game? Maybe somewhere deep she wanted to be helpless.
Maybe it was written in her destiny- to struggle, but now she just had enough of everything.
She was a fighter, a true fighter, but with her grandmother's recent departure, all her strength was gone. And along with was gone her strength to...dance...which made her more brittle.
She had lost every possible hope/reason for which she could continue breathing.
That sweet face of that old lady flashed in front of her eyes, she smiled. She remembered all those moments she had spent lying in her lap, playing with her white locks.
Her granny was the only person who cared for her since childhood after her mother's departure. And her father? She had never seen him. He must be a complete asshole who left her mother with a month old baby girl.
Maybe...it was meant to happen this way. From somewhere she gets her strength back...making her resume walking ahead.
Maybe next morning she would be smiling again- she hoped.
