Part 6

Shlok and Astha finish their meeting and are driving back.. On the way shlok says

" astha lets go home.. I think u should meet mom.." shlok asks

" no shlok.. I told u already.. I cant face her I am sorry.. after all that what happened everything in my life changed.." astha is teary eyed..

please astha.. don't say that.. I know I have hurt u a lot in the past.. and I know I have hurt mom too .. I am the culprit.. so why are u both punishing each other??.. astha mom is very sick.. doctor doesn't give much hopes for her survival.. u meeting her will make her happy.."

Astha sees shlok in a shock when he says that she is very sick.. " u dint tell me about this?? Okay shlok I am read to meet her.. just for her sake.."

Shlok is happy and both drive to his house..

Astha gets down from the car and looks around.. everything seems just the same... as they enter the house she remembers the first time she had come there to meet anjali ...

The dining table, the hall and everything seems still quite the same.. she gets images of the good times spent in that house..

Suddenly shlok gets a call.. " ah astha just give me 10 minutes.. its an important call" shlok says and walks away to some secluded place..

Astha keeps wandering in the hall seeing each and everything and smiling remembering the past.. then suddenly her eyes go towards anjali's room.. Astha feels hesitant to go to that direction.. but she decides to go..

Slowly she walks up to anjali's room.. with teary eyes she peeps in.. Anjali is trying to get something from a side table and unable to reach it.. Astha looks at her and suddenly she is about to fall.. astha runs and holds anjali from falling from the bed..

" thanks beta" anjali says and turns towards astha and sees her face..

Anjali's eyes become moist and she is in disbelief .. " Astha.." she says in a faint voice..

Astha suddenly folds her hands in apology and cries...

Shlok standing near the door sees all this in tears..

Anjali starts walking back to her car.. Shlok keeps running after her..

"aayi,, aayi.. please wait for a second.. listen to me.."

Anjali doesn't listen to him and she keeps walking.. she goes and sits in her car..

Shlok runs and sits in the car with her..

" driver lets go,.." anjali says in anger not paying heed to shlok..

" mom please listen to me once.." shlok tries to persuade

" what do u want to explain shlok.. who is that girl.. u spent a night with her ??" anjali questions angrily

" mom.. actually.." shlok doesn't know what to explain her that there is nothing between them and that they are just plain friends.. but saying that how will he justify what happened and how they were in bed together..

" mom.. she.. she is my girlfriend.. I am .. I am in love with her" shlok says in hesitation..

Anjali looks at shlok in suspiciously... " ok so u are in love with this girl??"

"yeah mom" shlok says softly

" ok first I need to meet her in person.. bring her home.. I will give both my piece of mind to both of u together.." anjali says strictly.. " now get down from the car and pack up ur things and come back home"

Shlok doesn't know what to do and her gets down from the car and the car goes away..

Shlok goes back in the room as astha is standing there with hands on her hip and angry.. " who was that? And what am I doing here?.. the last thing I remember was drinking that juice that the waiter got for me.. then I was feeling dizzy and then I don't know anything."

" astha.. lets go home.. frankly even I don't remember much" shlok says in a soft tone and takes his jacket and other things and drags astha's hand to leave

Astha reaches her room and sees tai there..

" where were u astha?? I have been searching u since last evening.. I tried calling u also.. u have never been out all night like this before.. so u have started learning bad habits already?" tai is angry

Astha doesn't know what to say " sorry tai.. but I was at my friends place all night studying.." she lies to tai..

" astha.. there is a bad news" tai says turning away unable to face astha..

" ur sponsor .. he passed away this morning.." she says in tears holding astha... he is actually the same guy who is sponsoring astha's education..

" what !!" astha is in disbelief.. she sits down on the bed..

" is all ok in his family?" she asks tai..

"astha..." she puts her hand oh astha's shoulder

" what will happen now tai?" astha asks softly catching tai's hand...

" don't worry my child.. I will speak to the govt officer who had got u this sponsor.. I am sure he will find someone else to sponsor ur studies" she says and leaves immediately..

Astha sits in tension as she needs to pay her exam fees the next day and also her next semester fees in a few days to come..

Astha is talking to gauri on the phone and shlok reaches her window and gets into the room

Astha suddenly gets scared.. " what the hell shlok ... u are here again" astha scolds him..

Shlok pulls her aside and says.. " please astha listen to me.. I have to talk something very important to you"

" not now shlok.. I am quite stressed.. u just go away now" astha in disinterested

Ok fine then lets go out.. he drags her hands and takes her out to have some icecream...

"Astha I need some help from you.." shlok says softly

" yeah shlok tell me what is it" astha disinterested

" astha.. astha u have to become my girlfriend" shlok suddenly says

" what !!" astha suddenly comes out of her disinterested phase.. "what the hell are u saying?"

" ok listen cool.. see yesterday my mom saw me with you in the room.. and I couldn't do anything.. so I said that u are my girlfriend.." shlok says with an expression of screwing up

" how can u just say what u like shlok.. u should have asked me first.." astha is angry..

" look astha.. please.. just come home with me tomorrow.. just pretend to be my girlfriend in front of my mom.. and just for sometime.. please see u don't know how my mom is.. she is damn strict.. and if she tells everything to my dad then he will kill me" he tries to persuade

" shlok.. today u will tell her I am ur girlfriend... after that what.. this lie will have no end to it.." astha says in irritation

" don't worry about that astha.. u just come home with me now.. I will plan what to do later.. I am sure something can be done.." he says

" no shlok.. u don't understand.. she is ur mom.. if u explain her she will understand.. why do we need to lie" she says

" astha she is my mom and I know her better.. look after sometime I will tell her that we broke off.. its easy" shlok tries to make astha say a yes

" ok astha.. I have a better deal for you.." shlok speaks up

Astha looks at him in surprise..

" u do this for me .. and I .. I will pay up ur fees.. ur exam fees, ur semester fees.. all I will pay.." shlok says

" shlok.. are u trying to buy me with this money?? No shlok am not going to do all this.. I hate u for this.." she says and leaves..

"astha listen... " shlok runs after her but she sits in a auto and leaves..

" shit man.." shlok says in anger

Astha goes to her room back and keeps thinking about how to pay the fees.. she thinks about asking the lady whose kids she teaches.. but then drops the idea cos she is not a person whom she can convince...

The next day she goes to the college not knowing what to do.. she goes to the fee counter and sees so many students there in paying up.. she just keeps seeing and goes and sits in a nearby chair..

Suddenly a pune comes there with an envelope and gives it to her.. she gets surprised..

She opens the envelope.. and finds a fee payment receipt in that..

She is shocked to see someone has payed her fees for her.. she suddenly remembers that it must be shlok. And she takes the receipt and leaves in anger..

She goes out looking for shlok and finally sees him coming in his bike and parking it.. astha fumes and walks upto him..

" what is this?" she shows him the recipt and questions.. " why did u do this.. dint I tell u yesterday that I wont..."

" I have paid ur fees" suddenly a voice from behind astha

Astha turns back and sees .. its Anjali.. shloks mother..

Astha is stunned.. " aunty.. u have..."

Anjali moves forward and smiles at astha... and holds her shoulder and says.. " Shlok.. I am proud of your choice.. with the girls that u are surrounded by all the time I had lost hope of u finding a nice decent and down to earth girl ever.. but now all my worries are gone.." she says with a smile and kisses astha's forehead

Shlok smiles back at anjali... Astha looks at shloks face as to what the hell was happening..

" oh astha.. don't worry.. he has told me everything about you.. that u are an orphan.. and also a very intelligent girl and how u won the competition for the college.. he also told me that u are studying with help of a sponsor but he passed away.. but don't worry my child we are here to take care of it.. and moreover this institution belongs to my husband only.." she says very sweetly to astha..

Astha gives a hesitant smile back to anjali..

" ok now I have to go astha.. but I want to come home today for dinner and shlok will pick u up.. okay.." anjali says and huga astha...

" ok aunty" astha says softly and smiles back..

Astha feels different.. cos she never had experienced what a mothers love is.. and today by the love that was shown by anjali to her made her feel good..

Anjali leaves in her car..

Astha and shlok look at each other..
