Diwali was one of the most bittersweet episodes. Good of you to use this as the backdrop to your conclusion and to give Khushi closure.
She looked lost, scared as she looked around the dimly-lit hall, seeing images of last Diwali - the guests milling around, her red sari which had actually been meant for Lavanyaji, the sugar-free sweets she had made for Arnavji that she had fed him while congratulating him on his decision to get engaged to Lavanyaji, the abyss of pain she had sunk into as he had held Lavanyaji close to him and looked at her with triumph in his eyes as she stood by the pool, devastated, left alone again, rudderless, abandoned, pain feeding on her mercilessly as she had submitted to a ruthless fate and a cruel man who had played with her feelings and humiliated and hurt her no end... the parts in italics are truly heart-wrenching... it must have been such an immense shock for Arnav returning home in a happy frame of mind, hoping to spend some quality time with Khushi, only to see her wracked with painful memories and knowing that he is the one who put that pain there. What he did to Khushi throughout most of his relationship was unforgiveable, but the way he treated Lavanya was equally unconscionable: she was made use of and discarded with, as usual, a paltry apology. Thus, the scene that plays out later in this story comes as no surprise. Khushi fighting the demons of her previous Diwali as Arnav watches helplessly is heart-breaking. He was the worst kind of coward then, and still is in some ways. Even now she hides her pain behind a smile. Red. Bright red like the blood flowing through her veins, red like the blood her heart had wept last Diwali... do not understand Arnav... he has seen Khushi's pain and should have guessed that a red sari would have unpleasant associations, so why insist she wear a red sari when she had already chosen a blue one for herself? Seems to indicate that his feelings, here remorse and need to redeem himself, take precedence over hers! [Have felt that making Khushi wear red, be it in the show or in many stories, on special occasions was taking things too far... a surfeit of the colour makes it lose its value, especially when there are so many other colours she looks good in!] ...his mother's necklace, earrings, and bangles adorning her captivating form... now, why didn't he tell her the jewellery belonged to his mom, or does she already know? If he had done so, it would have made the gift all the more meaningful, rather than merely the right accessory for that particular sari!
Some of the ladies looked her up and down, and went away smirking... The Raizadas seem to have a knack for inviting uncouth people to grace their parties... even if such people are related to their business associates, they can be avoided, can't they? And why not have just close friends and family at such celebrations rather than calling all and sundry to your house? "Can you get us something to drink?" That seems to have been deliberately done to equate her with a waiter. I realise that Khushi is overwhelmed by memories of last Diwali and by such an unexpected and vicious attack, but I just wish she would have stood up for herself and put those vultures in their place by telling them a few pithy home truths! Sadly, such impolite behaviour isn't in her nature. Those females call Khushi low class' but by speaking of class they have shown their own lack of it! And what is their problem whom Arnav marries? He isn't answerable to them. His unthinking actions have left both Khushi and Lavanya open to innuendo and slurs... now yelling at those busybodies for slandering his wife is too little too late. "You must let us into the secret of your success, Khushi." Why? Do they also want to snare' rich husbands... are they not satisfied with their current ones? Wish Khushi asked them that! The Raizada ladies closing ranks around Khushi is heart-warming... never liked how, in the show, Nani had admonished Arnav for speaking up for Khushi when another busybody had insulted her during the mooh dhikhai. ...walking-talking vendors of gossip... that was a good one! Khushi gulped, and slowly placed the tidbit in his mouth, feeling a hundred eyes watching them. Arnav leaned forward and kissed her on her cheek in gratitude... he seems to be laying claim to her, publicly acknowledging how much she means to him... this coming from a man who hitherto shied away from PDA says a lot. Though Arnav's apology is sincere, I still want to clobber him, because he didn't realise till date that there was a lot he had to apologise for. "Don't give me any more red saris. I hate the sight of them." I can understand her sentiments and totally concur with them. Khushi's threats are her way of showing Arnav that she accepts his apology but is done with being taken for granted. Khushi, being Khushi, always uses humor to defuse an intense situation and to imply it's time to move on. Loved Arnav getting her favourite brand of jalebi because they mean more to her than the most expensive diamonds. Arnav's panicked reaction to seeing the name of a lab, Khushi's exasperation and then his frozen silence on realising that she was pregnant are endearing. "Ji. I think it is a baby. It may be a jalebi for all I know...," Khushi smiled, laughing at him... that clearly reflects her joy at her impending motherhood as he tries to come to terms with the news... this is one gift to both that would erase all bad memories of that horrendous Diwali the previous year. The promises he makes to his unborn child, especially the one about being a better father than his ever was, are moving. Being Sanka Devi, Khushi's realisation of her pregnancy doesn't come about the normal way, either! If she felt like throwing up at the smell of jalebi, will Arnav's Diwali gift go waste? Or is she over that phase now? Arnav seems to be emulating Dasarath by giving a promise before even knowing what exactly he is promising. Luckily for him, all Khushi asks for him is to promise that they would always be together and that he would love her the most, despite any number of children they might have. "You will always be my first and best Sanka Devi." Now that's what I call an ending!
