"Arnav bhaiyya!" The shrieking sounds of local Amit Sravnan boys came his way while he sat on the porch steps of his house. "Uncle..." was all they had to utter for Arnav's heart to drop six feet under the ground. He got up and started taking big and long strides and just as he started jogging, he saw other young boys running in his direction and when they caught sight of him, yelled his name to run faster. The young boys were all surrounded at one of the falls, further away from the one they usually went to.
"Abba!" He yelled with a trembling voice. He scraped his knees against the rocks as he kneeled by his father who had blood oozing out of his head. "Pull him out!" He told the guys around and they struggled but finally succeeded in pulling the large man who was already soaked from head to toe, from the river.
"How did you find him?" He asked the boys.
"We were playing around and then saw something floating away. When he checked and realized it was dada, we tried out best to at least get half of him out of the water," one replied.
Arnav hauled his father enough to bring his head in the crook of his arm. "Go call someone!" He shouted and they all scurried off. He held his father's forehead to stop the bleeding. "Abba," he said trying to shake him awake but to no use. "Abba!" He yelled with tears streaming down his face.
The voices of other men came towards them. He looked up and saw at least ten men, a few of them being close friends of his father's, making their way down the rocks and all crouching around. "Arun!" One of his friends, Dev, called aloud but got no response.
"Ok let's carry him!" Uncle Dev said to the others and Arnav suddenly felt like he was suffocating when everyone just crowded around them. Dev took over and grabbed Arun from under his arms, moving him away from Arnav.
Arnav froze as he stared at all the blood drenching his arm and white sleeve. "He's bleeding from the head!" He said and went to touch the back of it, and surely enough, fresh blood came to his hand. "Arnav, the faster we get him home, the better. Just stay calm." Dev said and the men started to carry him up the rocks while Arnav stared after them with tear filled eyes.

Arnav sat on the grass near a pond and blankly stared at the silent water. It wasn't moving and nor were the trees swaying. It's as if they were all taking a long moment of silence for the late Arun Singh Raizada. Everything and everyone had gone into silence. People were mourning with their heads hung low and their eyes pooled with tears, shops went dead along with the death of his father as everyone in the village tried to make it to their home to make a prayer, and even animals, who are the most innocent because they had not a single idea of what was going on, were no where in sight as they all hid in isolation. Arun was dead. The greatest man was dead. And now everyone was dying after him.
Arnav picked up a flat rock and threw it in the still pond and let out a sigh when it caused a ripple - at least time wasn't still.
"Arnav," a voice came from behind and he knew without delay that it was his best friend. "Your mother wants you to come home."
"Akash, I'm going tonight," Arnav said in a determined voice without looking back. He made the decision on the spot. His world had stopped along with the last breath of his father's and in order to bring justice for it, he had to get his revenge.
"Where?"
"Sadasya."
Arnav came home late after dinner. He was the guest of honour at Akash's place, but that was the case for him almost every night, Arnav thought with a smile. Akash's wife was a kind woman who never complained about her husband spending more time with Arnav than with her but it was because of her humbleness that Arnav always gave breaks in between seeing his best friend.
"Arnav," his mother called from the living room and he went to greet her but froze in the doorway when he saw Khushi sitting in his seat. His favorite throne like seat that his father always sat on. Hell no.
"Get out of my chair," he said harshly and his mother rolled her eyes. Nothing she said would ever make him understand. Khushi got up startled and when the awkward silence reached its epitome, she walked around him to go to her room.
Arnav looked down next to his mother to find a sleeping Adi, his feet outstretched. "Where was she supposed to sit? On your brother?"
"Not on my chair," he said sternly and picked up Adi in his arms. He started walking down the dark hallway when Adi's groggy voice came in his ear. "Abba, she's staying?"
"I guess so."
"Then you should let her sit on your chair."
"Adi, sleep."
"Can I sit on your chair?" He asked as Arnav lowered him onto his bed. Arnav crouched down next to him. "Yes, but absolutely no drinks or food on it."
Adi chuckled in his sleepy state. "I once spilled juice on it but ammi washed it out." Arnav grimaced but smiled at his brother's innocence. He knew that if the whole world went against him, Adi would be the only one to lie and tell Arnav that they still loved him. Anything to keep him happy.
Arnav kissed his forehead and closed the door behind him. He saw the light seeping from underneath the door of the guest room. He walked towards it and gave a light knock. It opened just seconds before him barging in and Khushi stood there, looking up at him. "I didn't know Adi was asleep on the couch. You don't have to go to sleep at eight o'clock," he said awkwardly. That was his way of apologizing.
"Oh..." was all she said before clicking the light shut then standing in the hallway, waiting for his highness to walk first.
"Go!" He said and she hurriedly started walking. He furrowed his eyebrows and internally chuckled. She was such an odd person.

"Ammi, what do I call her?" Adi asked while helping put plates on the table.
"You call her by her name," Arnav came in and picked up Adi around the waist with one arm. He placed him on his lap when they sat down and started eating.
"But you told me not to call any older person by their name," Adi said, confused by what his brother wanted and Avni shook her head. "He actually listens to what you say so don't go back on your word. You said she's staying, so she gets the same respect as others."
"You're right. We'll ask her what she wants to be called," Arnav said and picked up the cup of milk and put it in front of Adi's mouth with a grin while Adi pouted. He gave in - as if he had an option - and drank the whole thing.
Khushi finally came in and greeted Avni before sitting down.
"Are you not going to say hello to me?" Arnav asked and watched as her cheeks went a deep shade of red.
"Namaste," she said shyly and he responded with a nod of the head. His eyes fell on his mother and he broke into a laugh when he saw her giving him a death glare. "I didn't say anything wrong!"
She couldn't stop her own smile from forming - the sound of his laughter was not often so it brought her great joy whenever he did.
His eyes moved back to Khushi. It was one thing for the other villagers to be all shy around him, but for a girl who was living under his roof, he would go crazy with her awkwardness. "What do you want Aditya to call you?"
"My name is fine."
"Kids here don't take the names of people much older than them so Aditya wanted to know what to call you."
"Then didi is good," she said, smiling at Adi. He shyly smiled back at her then got down from Arnav's lap and went into the living room.
"I'll be gone until noon. I'm going to visit my friend so I'll take your leave now," Anvi smiled at Khushi and gave Arnav her most famous warning look before leaving.
After several minutes of silence, except the sound of the TV coming from the other room, Arnav got up and stretched his back. He was in a crisp white kameez and light blue jeans. He was washing the dishes in the sink when he saw her get up and come towards him with her plate in her hand. "I'll wash them," she tried to say in as normal of a voice as possible and not let her nerves take over.
Arnav moved away and stared at her with curiosity. "You know how to wash dishes?" He teased and smirked when she grimaced at him. "How can I not? Being the only girl, I had to clean the entire house, cook and yes, even wash dishes."
She started washing away and Arnav leaned against the counter on his side while he put one arm there for him to lean on. "Do you have any brothers?"
She shook her head no. "I'm the only one. I'm known as a miracle child because my mother kept losing her unborn children. She even had one miscarriage after I was born and then they stopped trying to have kids."
Because her attention was on the dishes, Arnav's eyes didn't hesitate to follow the movement of her lips as she spoke - those small rosy lips that he'd seen curl up only a couple times.
"So you're an angel?" He asked on purpose and his wish came true when her lips spread into a wide grin, showing off her pearly white teeth. "No, just a miracle baby." She looked at him and her smile slowly fell when she saw him staring at her mouth.
His eyes moved up to hers and gazed seriously into them before he straightened up and towered over her again. "You're done," he said.
"What?" She asked confused as she pulled out of their eye lock.
"There aren't any dishes left. You're done," he bobbed his head to the empty sink and running water. He turned it off and called Adi's name. He stood in the doorway with his hands behind him. Khushi smiled at the little boy who's chubby tummy was sticking out by the way he was standing. Arnav caught her smile and before he knew it, he was smiling too.
"We're taking Khushi to the marketplace," he said and Adi's eyes widened with excitement while Khushi's eyes widened with shock and disbelief.

Hey hey! From now on, I'm going to try to put some flashbacks in each part. There aren't too many so don't worry. haha. Arnav does not particularly like Khushi. Yes, he's attracted to her, but he doesn't like her and vice versa. Khushi's attraction towards Arnav will come the more easy going he becomes with her because right now, he's just a big and tall beast. haha.
