Continue soon...:D
Here is part two! I know I didn't get much of an earth shattering response on the last part, but I'm continuing for the few that appreciated it. Do comment and check out my writing index for other SS's, OS's and FF's 😊
Part Two:
Khushi Kumari Gupta had lost her mind. The very same girl who had dreamt about wooing and marrying John Abraham was now fantasizing about a certain Arnav Singh Raizada. After his confrontation with her outside the gymnasium, she suddenly began to notice Arnav and his behavior... his peculiar, but extremely touching mannerisms. She was shocked at how such a kind hearted and wonderful boy... no wait, man, had been invisible to her for all these years.
Everyday in the morning, he would hold the door open for people walking in to the university church house for prayer. He would do the same for students entering their classrooms. Arnav was hardly ever noticed, but he never complained and he never faltered from his daily routine. He beamed whenever he was acknowledged, be it a grateful smirk in return or a snicker at his unfashionable look.
On student's birthdays, he would leave anonymous notes in their lockers, congratulating them and wishing them success and happiness in the upcoming year. Khushi had noticed how his planner was filled with scribbled reminders of upcoming birthdays: birthdays of teachers, students, the principal, the nurse and even the janitors. Khushi had withered in guilt upon her discovery. The note she had received from him in November had been crumbled up and thrown into the trash without a second glance. She had rolled her eyes and cursed the disturbing stalker who had passed the lines of decency. Today, she made a mental note to scavenge the public student accounts and find Arnav's birthday to scribble into her own school planner.
Khushi observed how while her group of Prada and Hilfiger clad friends would spend their free periods smoking in the common greens; Arnav would spend his every free minute trying to be of assistance. She had watched as he abetted the nurse, the secretaries and the advisors, how he cleared the trash with the janitors in the common greens... picking up her friends' discarded cigarette stubs quietly as they obliviously walked back to their respective classrooms. She noticed how dosa boy would spend lunch alone in the grass, picking bits of his dosa and feeding it to the birds that fluttered around him and the squirrels that ran past.
But most of all, she noticed how his chocolate brown eyes would linger over her face as people filed into church every morning. And what shocked her most was that she would glance back at him as well, her cheeks reddening upon their mutual eye contact.
Khushi had completely lost it. She was falling for the biggest nerd in the entire university. Arnav Singh Raizada.
****************************************
"I have an idea, yaar. Do you know my cousin, NK? I can ask him to go with you"
"Or Khush, if you want, I can ask that half Indian, half American kid, Shrey. You know, the guy who goes to IIT? He was completely love sick the last time we met up"
"And there's Ved too. Apparently, he broke up with Osheen yesterday, so he's available. He's a bit of an airhead, but..."
"Guys. Can we please talk about something else?"
Khushi was flustered. Here she was slowly losing her heart to frizzy haired and friendless Arnav Singh Raizada, and there her friends were desperate on pairing her up with brawny guys who were neither intelligent nor friendly. She had not told Payal about her flustered feelings yet, nervous her best friend would not understand or would mistake her sentiments as a joke.
Akash groaned in frustration. "Khushi. I get it, but you need to make up your freaking mind! You are the most popular female in the entire damn school. The Valedictorian, captain of lacrosse team, class president, and most likely, the prom queen should probably go to the school dance with a date, no?"
Payal glared menacingly at her inconsiderate boyfriend, and shook her head in Khushi's direction not to listen to his rubbish.
"Akash. You inconsiderate ass. There's more to Khushi than..."
Khushi felt like pulling her hair out hearing the bickering over her prom date. "GUYS. I..." She hesitated. "I... I have someone in mind"
The two of them were silenced immediately, wide grins spreading across their faces at their friend's unexpected news, and in unison they shouted:
"WHO?"
Khushi gulped. She wasn't exactly ready to reveal this "spicy" news. But it had to be exposed sooner or later, she realized. Better now than never. Sighing, she disclosed the secret she'd been guarding from her friends for the past few weeks.
"Arnav"
"Arnav... Arnav who? Arnav Chaterjee? The Poli Sci cricket player from Noyda?"
"He has a really bad acne problem. And I've seen him changing in the locker room, you could shave his back and make a cat out of it, I swear"
"And wasn't he going with Sanskriti? I thought they had alr---"
"YOU IDIOTS. ARNAV SINGH RAIZADA"
Khushi thought she would drown in the following silence. She fiddled her thumbs nervously, watching as her friends stared at her with their mouths hanging open, as if competing to catch passerby flies. She had expected surprise, but their reaction was frightening her out of her wits. Silence followed silence for what seemed to be an eternity.
Aakash was the first to recover, and to Khushi's horror, he began hooting at the top of his lungs, his laughter catching the attention of all the students in the canteen. Payal on the other hand looked nauseated, as if she had witnessed some nasty documentary on the evolution of fecal matter. She managed to stutter in response.
"Khushi. You're... you're going to be the... the prom queen. Just... just tell me you're joking. Please"
Khushi suddenly became enraged. How dare her idiotic friends publicly humiliate her judgments? They had no right to be so involved with her personal decisions. Huffing, she bit out in response, "I've never been more serious in my life. Thanks for the support guys, but I'll still be asking him at lunch. Final. Wish me luck."
And with a click of her heels and a swish of her iron curled hair, Khushi retreated to the common greens to practice asking her dosa boy to the school dance, suddenly anxious and surprisingly, even more enthusiastic about what lay ahead
