Chapter 2

Soft murmur of sound of heated oil, punctuated by something that sounded like the bump of a lid against a pan, traveled through the walls of his house, with strong aromas still prevalent in air.

Was he doing something? Yes, he was. And he use to do this often when he gets gloomy, and he use to do this every day. He use to experiment in his kitchen, almost every night- he use to fail, sometimes the experiments came out to be perfect, but the fate of his experiments never mattered to Swayum, he does this just for the sake of himself, to cover up his feeling which haunts him after sunset, or to give him strength to live more. And when sun rise up on his head, he never know, whole night he spent in kitchen and with his sweat droplets sparkling in sunrays- his days starts. And now, Swayum had got used to it. He have been professional for most of the times, But for how long can he run from himself? He will need to land on old lost land one day, and that's pretty obvious.

He quickly got dressed in a clean chef coat, with his hairs combed properly; he climbed down the stairs to step into his restaurant. Yes, he was living on the upper apartment of one of his restaurant where he was an executive chef.

And as he stepped into the kitchen he got stuck in strong smell of Indian food. There were so many pots kept on different burner's, which one was having Indian food among them? He searched.

Finally, he lifted the lid of a pot in which Indian Curry was boiling.

"Who made this?" He asked with a struggling voice.

"I made this'." a soft terrified voice came from one corner.

He looked at her and scoffed angrily. She knew that he will react this way, and he have done this every time whenever she made it.

"It was in Today's Menu'" she reasoned.

"Whatever'You should make it properly. And how many times do I have to narrate the proportions of spices used in this? See, I'll show it to you for last time" said a exasperated swayum.

And she just smiled standing beside him. Oh, how cute and adorable he looks when is gets over possessive about food, and particularly about this curry. It was Smriti Madam's recipe, and she had taught it to him around 5 years back. And Swayum had guarded it like a precious ancestral treasure. And factually why he won't? Smriti Ma'am had been more than mother to him. And he had did just the traditional thing of preserving and garnishing the recipe of own mother. But it was difficult to handle him. She made the curry perfectly, with right proportions of spice but it won't calm Swayum till he makes it on his own. He was just in a race with himself, in which he was losing day-by day. Why was he getting so possessive about every small thing he owned, even a smallest recipe?

He sprinkled the coriander leaves as garnishing after finished with making that curry. His ego and pride beaming high even than the height of eucalyptus. His eyes shining sweat droplets being formed on his forehead. And like the cherry on cake, his perfect smile.

"Now you taste it Sharon'" he said dipping the teaspoon in curry, filling it half. He brought it close to his lips and blow air in it to cool it down. And when became normal to atmospheric temperature, he made her taste it.

She was left mesmerized, each time when he keeps in mind those minute things which makes her fall for him. "It is perfect swayum..." she said licking her lips, her eyes shut in order to feel each explosion of flavor in that curry.

"Thank You. And next time you better take care..." he said satisfied, wiping his hands with a kitchen towel.

"I will..." She said, her white teeth flashing and a slight red color being spread on her cheeks. Obviously there was no one like her in kitchen that would understand and control Swayum Shekhawat, She knows it perpetually and perhaps he knows it too. And he marched to his work station with a smile filled of contentment. And that's how Swayum finds his reasons to live and cook, in small things, in his small kitchen.

"Like the stars'I want you to glow'Though I know you are getting old'But you are the most beautiful person'I love you, despite of the difference in between us. I think they were meaningless, I wish we could get a bit more time to spend together'Mom'I miss you'" she wrote down in her diary. After writing the last alphabet, her fingers collapsed, trembled and shriveling at the deficiency of strength in muscles. She felt need to get some fresh air, to fill her lungs completely. And this was not for the first time that she had been confronting her love for mother. For her it was most intricate task. But lately she had found a way to walk on, where she can invest her love for mother, i.e. to find the person who is responsible for this condition of her mom. And needless to say she would do anything to achieve her goal.

She stuffed her camera in her small handbag and took to door for her evening walk.

Today she was determined to see something new to tickle her brain walls. A strange feeling was brimming towards her throat. Something was definitely not going a good way. She inserted the key in lock and turned it in right direction to secure that her apartment lock was perfectly done. Then she walked towards the lift and once in it, she pressed the down button.

It was perfect evening to get out of four walls and wander down the streets to find lost excitement in their lives. Today she was going to climb to that 3 km high somewhat miniature form of a mountain on which humans have made perfect concrete roads, from where one could get a magnificent view of whole town. Also there was a famous temple of Lord Shiva, where hundreds of devotees come. Some people pray to get their work done, and some people pray after their work got done, and some people pray for their prosperous lives. But Kria did not belong to that some people category. She never prayed for anything except that one time when she came to know about her mother. She'd prayed for her wellness, but with a hollow heart knowing that this could never come true. After that day she never had prayed or wished for anything. She started believing in the theory of earning not of getting.

On reaching the top she rested her hands on the railing and looked into the distance at the forest and those white lines of water streams flowing from the top of mountain. The soothing evening breeze fanned her long locks.

She took out her camera and captured picture of that mystical view. She captured people praying, dancing, walking with yellow bands on their foreheads, singing and playing harmonium and sitar in front of temple. This was a perfect view which was caressing her wounds with that unnatural power. She loves to visit here, see different people, and inhale that unadulterated air. But she never stepped inside the temple. But still she feels devotional vibes coming from insides of that devotional building. She had tried to deny the fact that it was actually god who heels her wounds every time she visited here. But every time she just runs away from herself.

She sat down on the brink of road and stared watching the pictures she'd clicked. They were even more beautiful and worth of adding in her picture book. But as she pressed the forward tab, her heart beat stopped. She'd just now captured unknowingly a known face, the same face she'd had seen with Swayum and Smriti yesterday in that photo frame.

She took numerous shallow breaths and zoomed in to get a clear view. Yes it was him.

She quickly got up and her eyes searched him. And there she saw a slight view of his brown hairs and later his face 'among the people who were marching downwards from the temple. All she could do right now was to follow him. May be he could help her finding the culprit?
