"Happily Ever After"
"ANSH! Don't go too far in the water!" I yell out as I see my six year old son playing with the ocean water.
"He is just like you," Rey says as he grabs my hand and kisses it softly, "Rebelious and stubborn as ever."
I chuckle, "I can't believe we've been married for eight years now...and you haven't left me yet."
Rey bursts into laughter, "Oh trust me...there were times when I wanted to but then I thought that I wasted nine years of my life on you. Getting another girl would waste more time and need more effort."
He teased me and I slapped his arm, "Shut up."
"By the way...when did you feel like leaving me?" I ask curious now that he mentioned it.
"Hmm...ek toh when I was proposing you." He said and I giggled.
"We were in New York for Christmas...and it was freezing! I just wanted to get it done and over with so I could go inside and sit wrapped in a blanket. But you just kept on stuttering for a good fifteen minutes and I couldn't take it. So I just proposed instead...don't blame me."
"It wasn't that cold! And you promised me that you wouldn't propose!" He whines.
"NO WAY! I didn't promise...and it was cold," I state.
"Fine...what about the time when we were with your mom. You said I would get to talk to her so I came over and you talked the whole time," he said accusingly.
"HEY! Hold up. I wasn't the one that was blushing and completely quiet!"
"Well...because your mom was talking about babies and how I am in bed!" He yells out petrified and I couldn't help laugh.
I remember the time when Rey first came over to our house to ask mom for permission to marry me. Even though we had gone out in college for a year my mom had never met him, though she did know him.
"So...how are you in bed?" was the first thing she had asked...teasingly of course.
Rey had choked on his pumpkin spice latte while Kiki and Sne were trying to control their laughter. I rolled my eyes.
"Mom!" I yelled and my sisters laughed this time. It was funny because when Amar and Shaan had come over, this same scenario had been played and I was the one laughing...now it was revenge time for them.
"Aare...if he isn't good in bed how will he give me grandkids?! And mind you sex life is important, am I right or am I right Rey?" She asked and Rey tried his best to somehow say yes.
"Mom...the point is Rey and I want to get married," I come straight to the point before I need to censor my mom in anyway.
"Haan toh mein kab mana kar rahi hoon...Rey putar...tumhe jab chahe iss musibat ko lejana hai lejao." Rey smiled and held my hand tightly.
That day was really awkward for me but Rey had really managed well with my family and now it was impossible to get him and mom apart. It's like someone had used fevicol on them...uff.
"Oh and how could I forget the ghodi. Probably the first bride who also had a baraat and sat on a ghodi." He said.
"I TOOK YOUR PERMISSION FOR THAT ONE! And EQUALITY man!" I try to reason but that was just my secret fantasy to sit on a horse and so I somehow convinced everyone of it.
"Fine...go on with your women's rights marathon." Rey said and then stayed silent.
Then suddenly, "What about my rights huh? You didn't let me name anyone's kids names."
"Because they were sooo uncool Rey...I mean who would recommend the name Geet for a boy?"
"It's a unisex name...don't judge!"
"Psshhh...my ass unisex. It's good that the gang didn't listen to you. Instead of Swayam naming his son Arsh, it would have been Ranchoddas or something. And Vicky's twins would be named Muna and Muni instead of Abha and Adi. Rinni would have ended up with Pandeyji instead of Vivaan and Sim would have to deal with Gagan instead of Kisha. Bharat wouldn't have even been able to pronounce Beyonce. Oh and how can I forget our own child...he would have ended up being named something like Funsukh Wangdu or something." I finish my rant and Rey looks flabbergasted.
"HEY! I was just going through a phase okay! I mean Muni and Muna badnaam came out during Dabaang 4 and I loved Salman Khan for his dance so Pandeyji was also my favourite name. Then Gagan was my favourite Punjabi singer and Beyonce was my girl celebrity crush. But, you can't blame me that Aamir Khan decided to release 3-Idiots 2 when Ansh and Arsh were about to be born. They weren't bad names...you should be glad I didn't suggest Virus."
"UGGGHHH!!! I would have killed you!"
"Shilpa called by the way...said she was going to Paris with Armaan."
"Wow...you know though, I'm surprised they don't have any kids yet. During college I had predicted they would have 3 or 4 at least," I say smiling.
"Yeah...come to think of it...life has been beautiful. I mean we all followed our dreams and ended up well settled. None of us have lost contact, we always meet up and enjoy just like before. Having kids hasn't made us restricted. It really couldn't be any better." Rey said and I nodded.
I placed my head on his shoulder and soaked in the setting sun rays.
"I love you," I say as I drowsily close my eyes.
"I love you too...always and forever." I hear Rey say.
"ANSH LOVE YOU TOO MOMMY DADDY!!!!" I hear my son yell into my ear and I cringe at his loud voice while Rey laughs seeing me troubled.
"We love you too baby," Rey tells Ansh while pulling him away from my ear.
