v Chapter 6

Riya was jumping around her room in excitement and happiness for two reasons firstly Abhi was coming home today after two weeks and secondly she was hired as Research Specialist in ETF.

Riya Dutta was the only daughter of Commissioner Anurag Dutta . While her father was the Police Commissioner of Mumbai , he still had a legacy inherited from his forefathers to which Riya was the sole heir. He knew that in their job there was no guarantee of life and he would never let his daughter to depend on someone else. He had made it sure that no one would ever have the power to snatch it from her.

Abhi on the other hand was the only son of Justice Choudhury working for DSK Legal. He never wanted people to know him by his father's name and wanted to make a name for himself. He was struggling till now and was yet to prove himself to the world .Wherever he used to go comparisons would follow and his every failure was well publicized. They were not as rich as the Dutta's but Riya never saw it as a factor of contention between them. In her mind nothing mattered except being with him. Abhi on the other hand didn't see things so easily. He knew that her fatheralways had high expectations for her and he wanted to prove himself worthy. He wanted that when they marry it should be a marriage of equals and thus he was always trying establishing himself and making sure that no one could point finger at him.

"This time I am not letting him go!" She talked to herself while pacing and jumping around her room. "RIYA" Preeti voice cut across from the other end. "Get Ready! We have a party. Be quick!"

Riya walked down the stairs, being careful not to trip. She had chosen a plain black gown with small black beads stitched all over the neck region. It was simple and just the way she liked it.

"Riya come over here." Her father voice called out to her. People of his stature and cultural background may have treated their daughter like a doll but he treated her as an equal. They discussed everything and anything-from talks about the political scenario to European league, English literature to the flaws of the system, Shahrukh Khan to Angelina Jolie, there was nothing she could not talk with her dad about .He was her inspiration and now that she was about to join ETF she prayed that she would make him proud. All her achievements were to make the two most important men in her life proud of her ' her father and Abhi. Her greatest wish was not for power or success but for the two most important men in her life to get along.

While her father knew about Abhi and her relationship, it wasn't easy for to accept it. He wanted the best for his daughter and felt that it wasn't Abhi. However he also knew that Riya wasn't the one which could be easily influenced. He had brought her up to make her own decisions, and he wouldn't take that away from her.

Riya rushed over to her father and was surprised to see him talking to a familiar person.

"This is ACP Arjun Suryakant Rawte the second in command in ETF.

"Hi." He said

Riya's face broke into a big smile. "Hi! You're the guy from the hotel a few weeks ago. I don't know if you remember or not but my friend dropped her drink on you."

As if I could forget you, He smirked at the thought but only said, "Is that so?"

It had taken him a while to find her and then was surprised to realize that she was the commissioner daughter and the newly hired Research specialist in ETF.

"Well nice to see the two of you have met." Anurag said, slightly confused but he went back to the reason he had called Riya. "Anyways, why don't you show Arjun around the place?"

Riya shrugged and smiled at Arjun. "Sure!"

Arjun could see Rathore giving him a thumbs up and a teasing smile. After all he was the first person to know that he had fallen for her.

As they were walking around Arjun as usual was not talking much, Riya didn't mind as she had heard that he was more of a silent person. She just spoke about random things while she showed him around but didn't fail to notice the women at the party who were staring him and ended up laughing at their antics

Arjun turned to her and just raised his brow in question.

"Surely you noticed that the women are drooling over you." Riya asked

Arjun stopped in his tracks, looking surprised. He would term the comment as flirtatious but the way she said implied pure humor.

Seeing his shocked face she just laughed some more. "Come on. Don't tell me you didn't notice. I know nothing misses your sharp eyes. "

This time a small smirk spread across his face. "Hmm...What about you Ms Dutta?"

Riya just smiled and replied with serious tone "No Arjun, women don't stare me I am straight. Arjun ended up choking on his drink as he heard the comment.

Even more laughter came out of Riya. "I am sorry! It's just that sometimes i cant stop but taese people. Especially the tough nuts ?

"And what makes you think that I am a tough nut?" He asked with amusement.

"Come on. Who hasn't heard about YOU!" She exclaimed.

"My dad tells me that no one can beat your shooting skills. He has apparently has lost at least 10 times."

"What about you?" He asked, wanting to know her better.

"Of course, I always hit the bull's eye" She proudly proclaimed.

"Hmmm, well then we should have a competition soon." He replied

"It's a deal!" Riya said quite excited.

It's a date then, Arjun thought with a small grin.

The two of them continued to chat, this time more relaxed. Surprisingly they had quite similar interest though contrasting opinions.

While Riya was a big movie buff, Arjun was more interested in documentaries. She appreciated the all kind of music, Arjun was confined to ghazals. Riya loved to watch cricket, he was a football follower .Their views on everything were contrasting but in a way they both were enriching each other's knowledge by fighting about which one is better. Arjun understood that not only she had a beautiful face but had her own mind.

Just as they were getting comfortable in each other's company Riya phone rang. He watched as a smile spread across her face while she stared at the caller ID.

Looking up at him, she apologized. "Sorry Arjun but I need to leave. It was wonderful talking with you and anyways now that I am being transferred to ETF we will see more of each other.

"Don't worry, we will" he thought but asked, "Where are you running off to?"

My boyfriend." And with that she ran off.
